Introduction
Plagiarism is often generalized as borrowing or copying others ideas which
undermines the seriousness of the offence. Plagiarism is stealing of other people’s work or
ideas and pass them off an original (Yadav, Rawal & Baxi, 2016). It includes uncited
production, quoting from existing work and present new ideas without acknowledging the
previous works. This is a report, where the advantages and disadvantages of plagiarism has
been discussed along with their advantages and disadvantages of it. Additionally, the uses of
plagiarism and intricacies of citations of APA style has been discussed as well.
Discussion
Advantages of plagiarism
The advantages of plagiarism are based on the assumption that it is not detected. The
advantages are as follows:
Working will become easier as the researchers would not have to think about new
ideas.
The work can be done faster and without difficulty (Ehrich et al., 2016).
The researchers need not put any mental effort for their work.
The disadvantages are:
Plagiarizing others work falls under academic misconduct and thus reflects badly on
the researchers ethics.
It violates the intellectual property rights.
People engaging plagiarism are unable learn new things as they limit themselves with
imitating other’s work.

Their intellectual capacity is limited and thus they do not gain academic recognition.
People who practice plagiarism gets barred from research and their previous
researches are also discredited.
Use of plagiarism
The importance of consideration regarding plagiarism are as follows:
Plagiarism detection and citations are necessary as it acknowledges the effort of the
original authors.
It allows the new researches to learn about the existing work that has been done by
other researchers (Lipson, 2019).
It gives respect to intellectual rights of people.
It shows good moral and ethical consideration in academic conduct.
APA style
American Psychological Association style of referencing is known as the APA style.
It is widely used by academicians to acknowledge the previous concepts and theories. The 6th
edition of the APA referencing format has brought many new changes. Using APA format for
citation makes it easier as it is a standard style and used widely. This citation style is mainly
used in fields like social science, psychology, linguistics, sociology, economics, criminology,
business and nursing. Referencing in APA format follows an author date format.
There are three sections in referencing, front in-texting, in-texting and reference list.
Front in-texting using APA format follows the following format:
“According to [author last name (year),] plagiarism is…..”
The paragraph in-texting follows the format as follows:
“ …academic misconduct (Last name/s of the author, year).”

In APA 6th format, when there are more than 5 authors an et. al. is put after the first author
followed by year.
Reference list in APA format follows the following format:

Conclusion
From the above discussion it can be concluded that Plagiarism is a serious issue in
modern times. Thus researchers should be made aware of the risks of plagiarizing work.
