AI Summary
This report details Abdulkarim Abdullah AlShammari's internship experience at Saudi Aramco's RasTanoura Maintenance Shop, conducted under the Mechanical Engineering Department at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University during the summer of 2016. The internship spanned eight weeks and covered various areas, including control valves, relief valves, rotating equipment, and machining. The report provides a summary of the work performed in each area, including dismantling, cleaning, lapping, assembling, and testing of different types of valves, pumps, and other equipment. The report also highlights the key components of the equipment, the procedures followed, and the importance of safety and calibration. The student gained hands-on experience in different aspects of mechanical engineering, including the operation of lathe machines and fabrication of parts. The report includes appendices with figures of the equipment under test and after the tests.

Summary
First, I am an employee of Saudi Aramco. I will be able to carry out
my internship in RasTanoura Maintenance Shop. During the third
and fourth weeks, my schedule was to work on the relief valve
area where I handled different types of these valves. The main
activities were to dismantle, cleaning, lapping, assembling and
testing all the valves o worked on. I was able to learn that the
relief valve is safety item in the plants and pipelines. The main aim
of the relief valve is to relief the extra pressure from the lines and
prevent the pipeline from exploding. I learnt that the valve must
be calibrated to the required pressure and ensure it is sealed so
that the setting cannot be manipulated. From the things I learnt, I
am intending to use the information on my future job.
Background
First, at the relive valve section, I was able to work with different
types of relive valves. The main activities were to dismantle and
reassemble different types of these valves. The main parts which is
learnt from the relive parts include:
1. Nuzzle.
2. Dick.

3. Adjusting ring.
4. Spring.
5. Adjusting screw.
6. Lock nut.
7. Cap assembly.
8. Ring pin.
9. Spindle.
According to figure 8, the dick and the seat are mostly lapped before
the assembling. This helps to make sure that the valve won’t leak or
fail when testing after assembling. The way to check the passing
amount is through the number of bubble. Each valve is able to
contain a specific number for the maximum number of passing
bubble. The safety valve in a plant is the relieve valve. The valve is
able to open to relive the pressure in case there is an unsafe increase
of pressure in order to save the workers and plant.
Progress
In this section, I was able to engage in the dismantling, cleaning,
assembling and testing of different types of relief valves. The main
procedures for the activities involved the lapping and testing parts.

Failing to make the correct lapping meant that the valve may leak
and this will require dismantling of the valve again.
Plans
During the third and fourth weeks of the internship, I plan to
undertake activities on the relieve valve sections. I will be able to try
in engaging on different types of the valves, dismantling and
assembling them. At the valve section, I did not face any hitches.
