Introduction
The word that stood out to me in the articles that I had to assess was the term police ethics.
Police Ethics can be described as a moral value system that can be accepted as the professional
standards in the profession of policing. In this essay I have done a brief analysis on police ethics
in relation to my job as a law enforcement officer.
Police Ethics
The term police ethics has been mentioned in the article as a ‘sub species’ of the
professional ethics. Police Ethics can be described as a moral value system that can be accepted
as the professional standards in the profession of policing. The study of the ethics of policing can
be seen as being framed inherently in a corrective intervention of a precise remedial exercise. As
it is a well-known fact that a law enforcement officer always has to take various decisions, which
include ethical decisions along with the legal and practical decisions, I will be benefitted by the
study of policing ethics. The ethical policing will help me immensely in my profession as a law
enforcement officer. The ethical decisions I will have to ensure in the job are: the treatment of
the offenders should be treated in a fair and respectful way; the protection of the rights of the
offenders are also needed to be protected and that as an officer I should be very courageous.
Apart from these there would be various obligations placed upon me. Further there would be
situation in which I’ll be bound for the intervention and resolving dangerous situations, and I
would be obliged to be engaging in morally wrong conduct, that is, the breaches of rights noted
above, and lying and deceiving while doing undercover work.

By the study of policing ethics I would be able to understand quickly recognize ethical
issue or problems related to the policing ethics. I would quickly be able to recognize in a quick
manner whether the issue is an ethical dilemma or not; I would have to indentify between the
options and the alternatives to address the problems available ; Further I will have to make
ethical and rational decisions; responding with based on the ethical decisions made to solve the
issue or problem and to be accepting the outcome of the situation and taking full responsibility
for any outcome in that particular system. As a law enforcement officer I would have to think
and act ethically all the time.
Conclusion
Thus from the discussion above I can conclude that the ethics is the most important aspect of
policing. The law enforcement officials are always needed to be behaving ethically. In this essay
I have done a brief analysis on police ethics in relation to my job as a law enforcement officer.
