Preparing to Run
1. Dallas District
Population = 1.318 million, majority of population is White and the second majority group is of
Hispanic or Latino. Others are non-Hispanic, African Americans, and Asian population.
Age= the median age of Dallas is 32.6 and majority of population falls in the age group of25 and
34 years and, second position is held by the population of age between 45 and 54 years (Data
USA).
Education = Dallas is considered as a center of education for the South Central region of the US
and, it consist of number of colleges, schools, and universities. It comprises of six Nobel
Laureates from Dallas-Fort Worth.
Employment= the unemployment rate in the year 2017 is 3.5% (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
2. Based on the demographics of Dallas, it has been revealed that maximum population is of
adults i.e. from the age group of 25 to 35 years and racial discrimination is prevalent in the
region. Since 2011, minority lawmakers and civil rights groups sued the state regarding its
electoral maps. It was stated that Texas legislators limit the voting power of African-
Americans and Latinos. The federal court in Washington stopped the state from
implementing those maps and ordered new maps to be drawn. It has been continuously
argued that the minorities should receive fair representation while voting in elections but just
because, blacks and Latinos vote for Democratic candidates, reshaping the electoral districts
could lead to enhanced number of Democrats in office (Barragán). Therefore, taking into
consideration, the fair representation of all the races during voting, I would choose the
platform of Texas House of Representatives.

Platform and Party Politics
1. Surveys to identify my political leanings;
Being in the category of Opportunity Democrats, I found myself more leaning towards
Democratic. I possess liberal attitudes on majority of issues such as protecting the environment,
immigration rules and regulations, and sexual preferences of people. It is my strong belief that
hard work is enough for the majority of people to achieve success and structural barriers being
faced by blacks and women are likely to less probable in a society that believes in hard work. I

support the involvement of the government in international affairs as well as in global markets to
hold a topmost position economically. Thus, the results support my priority and position
regarding political platform as my ideology is Independent and political inclination is more
towards Democrats.
2. Taking into consideration, the analysis of Dallas and the results of survey, I suppose to be in
favor of Democrats. I would like to run for the Texas House of Representatives. My opinion
related to the political inclination can be favored by following three issues;
 Minorities are not provided with fair representation in voting during the election
period.
 The racial discrimination in the country is visibly prevalent and the government is
not taking serious initiatives to prevent it.
 The benefits and regulations being framed by the government are more in favor of
Americans instead of all classes and races.
Due to these three reasons, I would like to be more inclined towards Democrats because they
believe in equal opportunities for all, fair government policies, and healthy and peaceful country
because biasness destroys the competitive strength of the country and unity among all races and
classes can altogether bring success for the country. However, I will consider myself more
liberal regarding the issues related to environment protection and sexual preferences and
consider the efforts made by the government as effective.
