1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose

These can be arising in the environment on the basis of some factors and this can affect the
health of people and workplace activities (Chang and et. al., 2014). It can get occurred in
different forms like air, water, noise, soil and so on. When pollution is get increased then due to
this, overall productivity of people can get affected sin negative manner. If they will not be able
to perform better than they cannot achieve success at the market area as compare to their rivals.
Research aim: The aim of the current project is “To analyse the impact of pollution on the
productivity of workers - A case study on Bentley Motors Ltd, UK”. By setting this purpose,
scholar will be able to set a direction and through which they can reach to their goals. The
current aim of study is depending upon some factors and these are explained below:
 To investigate the sources through which pollution is get increased in environment.
 To analyse the current performance of workers in Bentley Motors Ltd.
 To critically evaluate the impact of pollution on the productivity of employees in
automotive industry.
 To recommend some approaches through which Bentley Motors Ltd will be able to
improve the performance of their staff members.
1.2 Background of research problem
The current field of study is based on the topic pollution and its impact on the overall
performance of organization. In some manufacturing industries, raw material is get converted
into finished goods. In this transformation process, some wastage has been produced and gas is
released so due to which air pollution can be enhanced. This type of pollution can directly affect
the health of people who are living in the country (González, Aliagas and Valero, 2014). Along
with this, some industries float the wastage into water and due to which water pollution can be
increased and this can affect the health of all living elements. So, this may also affect health of
people who are working in such company and due to which their health can also get influenced.

1.3 Background of organization
The current research project is based on Bentley Motors Ltd which perform its operations
throughout the world and its headquarter is in England. The company manufacture the parts of
car and due to which high wastage has been produced. When this get enhanced then it can
directly impact the environment. It is the responsibility of researcher to identify the solutions for
specific problem so that the performance of employees can be improved in the respective firm.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
As per view of Chang and et. al. (2014) it can be stated that pollution is the any substance or
contaminant which is having negative and ill effect on the natural environment conditions of
earth. This having an adverse effect on water bodies, air, people health etc. Polluting agents are
the contaminator to the natural and healthy environment of earth. Pollution can be of many types
like air, water, sound, light etc. this can be any source of chemical substance or energy which
pollutes the natural climatic conditions of globe and negatively effects the climatic conditions as
living environment of world. In today growing countries pollution is a major problem which
have to be controlled effectively with working in integration with people, business organisation
and government actions. The companies have to concerned about the various processes to control
and reduce pollution in their operation to maintain a healthy working environment in the
workplaces. This actions plan of any organisation largely contributes in higher satisfaction level
of workers working for firm and helps in increasing their productivity and performance
standards. Pollution largely effects on the health of people. The Bentley is car manufacturing unit
is highly responsible towards their workforce and environment protection as involved in various
activities which will contribute in contributing to healthy working environment as well as
healthy natural environment.
As per stated Hanna and Oliva (2015) it can be defined as that pollution is of many types
which can be produced from many sources. There are continuously large number of sources are
increasing in working environment who contributes in higher pollution in natural surroundings of
globe. Pollution sources in the environment can be different processes and organisation which
the manufacturing and other services companies are engaged, the noise pollution can be
increased because of using large numbers of high frequency audio advertisement and speakers as
a promotional tool in marketing operation. Pollution also increased because of huge numbers of
honks on road due to increasing cars and vehicles in countries. The manufacturing factories are

using big machinery which are producing range amount of be noise in working environment
which negatively affects the health of workers working in manufacturing line. Manufacturing
process also uses various type of raw material and chemicals to produce and finished goods and
releases different types of contaminants to air like polluted gases, hazardous gases which largely
effects healthy life of peoples in society. The manufacturing wastes also pollutes natural water
bodies of country also the factory waste are thrown in rivers, lakes, oceans directly which largely
affects the marine life as well as indirectly effects human health as they are dependent on marine
animals as food resources. Three are many sources form where the pollution is continuously
increasing in globe and affecting natural environment, marine life, territorial living beings and
human beings negatively. The people are facing large numbers of health related problems like
mental, physical health etc.
According to views of Zivin and Neidell (2012) it can be stated that productivity of an
organisation is contribution of highly dedicated and passionate workforce working with the firm
in order to achieve higher profitability in marketplace. The productivity of the workforces is
largely affected by many factors like satisfaction level to job, incentives, various motivation
factors, organisational culture heath related aspects in workplace and the contribution of
organisation and services of firm toward maintaining a healthy working surrounding for the
labours, workers and employees working for the growth of firm personality. Pollution is a major
aspect which are affecting the productivity of an individual. As the pollution influence the nature
and behaviour of labour differently at different aspects. Because of higher pollution in workplace
and environment the workers working in factories and manufacturing line may develop various
serious health related issues which increases the higher absenteeism and also leads to decrease in
productivity of firm to large extent. This also leads to higher dissatisfaction workforce working
for growth of firm will increase higher employment turnover rate and hence negatively influence
the productivity and profitability of firm to large extent. On the other hand, it has been analysed
by Roy, Byrne and Pickering (2012) Workers are also concerned about the health of their
children and family members largely. Due to higher pollution and chemical use in production
may develop some inheritable disease which will pass on in next generation. So employees
prefer less to work in such hectic conditions of workplace. Productivity of labour class also
affected by increased pollution and polluting factor used in various processes of organisation as

these will dissatisfy and creates threat in mind of people to work in these hazardous conditions of
working environment.
As per studies of Kozioł and Whatley (2016) it can be acknowledged that Pollution is having
great negative impact in the productivity of the employees as they are less interesting to work
passionately and dedicatedly in such a polluted workplace. The pollution largely influences the
productivity of labour working in the dangerous condition where his life is at risk. The person
will more focus on the health of individual as compare to their productivity goals. The individual
may face risk of various disease which may develop for long time period and negatively effects
the working capabilities of individual. As the person suffering from any disease will not able to
contribute the 100% of their work and capabilities to work and hence negatively affects the
productivity of workforce in organisation. On the contrary, Hu and et. al. (2013) Pollution may
lead to thrombosis, coronary heart disease and contamination because of hazardous environment
people may also leads to diseases. The pollution also creates lower interest to work in polluted
environment which may be riskier for their life and this is because there is lower availability of
labours in mines etc. the organisation should develop a health working environment in the
workplace in order to motivate the person to work effectively in the organisation and enhance
their performance standards in many folds. The pollution also may cause some disease in the
physical or mental health of labour which cause higher dissatisfaction among labours of a
company may negatively affects the productivity of workforce to large extent.
As per knowledge of González, Aliagas and Valero (2014) it can be depicted that Bentley
motors limited is a car manufacturing company engaged in various types of activities which may
harm the natural environment of the earth and will effects the human heath to large extent. But
the company is focusing upon various types of strategy that will largely contribute to the
protection of natural surroundings of the organisation. Bentley is developing various types of
environment protection plans which largely contributes in developing healthy working
environment on earth and also contribute in enhancing the satisfaction level as well as the
productivity of workforce in the firm. The company is focusing on implementing a renewable
source of energy in functions which will contribute to use of pollution free space of energy in
production. Company is largely working for reducing carbon foot-printing in their process in
order to harm less to natural environment as well as provide a good working environment for
workforce. This will enhance the productivity of the employees this will contribute largely to the

increased satisfaction level of workforce in organisation. The company is adopting various type
of strategies to reduce the carbon content which will largely pollutes the natural environment as
well as the greenhouse gases largely affects the human health. This will also leaders to depletion
of ozone layer which will results in direct exposure to sun-rays by human body which may leads
to cancerous disease, and decreased the productivity of workforces. So, company is countlessly
engaged in providing healthy environment to people working for firm to increase their
productivity standard as well as to contribute in healthy natural environment on earth so that to
provide healthy living surrounding for human beings, terrestrial as well as marine animals also.

Some questions are formed for the current research on the basis of specified title and aim.
When these are framed then researcher selects some appropriate strategies and methods so that
they will be able to solve them (Flick, 2015). So, in this way the specific business research
problems can be identified and major steps can be taken in order to reduce pollution to some

4. METHODS
The current section of proposal represents several methodological tools and techniques
which should be adopted by researcher in order to resolve specific issues (Smith, 2015). In order
to accomplish this, relevant information should be gathered which will be helpful in creating a
base for study.
4.1 Research design
In the present study, descriptive research resign has been followed by scholar so that in-
depth understanding of pollution can be identified and its impact on worker’s productivity can be
evaluated. For this type of analysis, data is gathered from both primary as well as secondary
sources. In primary, surveys are conducted like questionnaire, interview, observation, focus
group in which researcher asked some questions to their respondents which are selected for the

investigation (Mackey and Gass, 2015). Along with this, qualitative method is used in which
findings are presented in the form of charts and graphs.
It is necessary for the investigator to select an appropriate philosophical approach so that
perceptions can be identified regarding to the research. Interpretivism philosophy is followed by
researcher so that current views regarding to the pollution and its impact on worker’s
productivity can be determined by getting the views of people who are working in Bentley
Motors Ltd. So, in this way it can be analysed that above mentioned research questions can be
resolved on the basis of qualitative method.
4.2 Primary data
This type of data is first-hand information that is collected on the basis of various surveys
in which views and opinions of different respondent are identified. Here, in the present research
questionnaire is conducted on employees of automotive industry so that their working capacity
can be analysed in an effective manner (Parrish and et. al., 2012). This survey is more
appropriate as through this questions can be asked many people at a time so it is time saving and
cost effective technique. The biasness can be eliminated by selecting a sample through some
sampling technique so that their views can be evaluated in an effective way.
The current information which is gathered on the basis of questionnaire is reliable as the
responses are same in every case when survey has been conducted on people. The current sample
of employees is 20 which is selected from the whole population of Bentley Motors Ltd. The staff
members are selected for the survey as their productivity is get affected in negative manner. so, it
is more appropriate research will be conducted on these people. The random non-probabilistic
sampling technique is used for the present field of study (Meshram, Pandey and Mankhand,
2014). The qualitative method is used and thematic analysis has been followed in which
collected information will be presented in the form of themes and graphs.
4.3 Secondary data
These data are already published and by collecting the information from such sources their
validity can be ensured. The secondary sources are related to past research papers, published
articles, journals, books and so on (Guo and et. al., 2012). By collecting from such sources,
overall study can be carried out in an effective manner so that specified research questions can be
resolved. Here also the information will be analysed on the basis of qualitative method so that
their efficiency can be ensured. The data will be presented in the form of text with some tables.

Along with this, some views and opinions of different authors are presented so it can be
evaluated that how pollution can affect the overall performance or productivity of workers in
negative manner.
5. ACCESS AND ETHICS
Some ethical practices are performed by researcher so that they can perform overall
operations in smooth manner. For this, some code of practices and legislative laws are performed
by investigator. The views from respondents are identified without forcing them to answer for
the questions. Along with this, their personal information is also protected and is not shared with
anyone. The data can be accessed from authenticate sources and its access is also given to the
authors of the respective articles, books and journals. So, in this manner overall ethical practices
are followed by scholar.
