MANAGEMENT
The effects of poorly managing generation Y employees in an organization
Analyzing the problem
The idea of employing the generation Y employees is something that has emerged to be
common in this in most of the organizations since most of them are known to have flocked the
job market right after receiving different levels of trainings in their respective fields. Moreover,
the generation Y employees appear to be unique in quite a number of ways right forms the way
they express themselves to how they are capable of handling various tasks within their respective
areas of work (Birdi et al., 2016). What I more worrying is that quite a number of managers have
not been able to appropriately learn how these kinds of personalities should be managed to come
up with an efficient mode of operation within their organizations. Most of the managers have
also been able to develop some negative perspectives regarding in relation to the generation Y
employees thus hindering the emergence of quite a number of positive outcomes that are capable
of taking place within an organization. Moreover, when the generation Y employees are poorly
managed, this is a condition that is likely to come up with a lot of effects within their respective
organizations either at the internal level or even at the external environment of the organization.
According to research statistics, all the organizations that have been able to neglect the
management of the generation Y employees have ended up not attaining most of their desired
goals since the entire condition is known to have the capability of causing quite a number of
effects to the entire organizations irrespective of the total time that it will take for the negative
effects to emerge. Quite a number of managers have been on the verge to look for various
solutions on how best they can be able to come up with appropriate strategies and
recommendations in terms of how best they can be able to manage this generation of employees
in order to come up with a more reasonable outcome that can help them to attain some of the

goals that they have been able to desire over the past in relation to the direction that the
performance of the organization should be taking. Currently, quite a number of information has
been able to emerge regarding various issues that are known to be connected to the generation Y
employees together with their capability and how they are capable of operating within an
organization. This is information that was able to emerge right after quite a number of
organizations were able to raise a lot of concern regarding some of the challenges that they have
been able to face when it comes to the management of the generation Y employees. This
research proposal therefore aims towards coming up with a more advanced form of analysis that
will be able to provide a deep explanation regarding some of the negative outcomes that are
likely to emerge within an organization when the generation employees are poorly managed by
addressing the question ‘what are the negative outcomes that are capable of emerging as a result
of poorly managing the generation Y employees?’.
Research designs
There are quite a number of research designs that are known to be capable of fitting this
research and at the same time, they also have the potential of generating different types of
information that can be appropriately analyzed to come up with a more reasonable outcome that
is capable of eradicating any conditions that are likely to be attached to confusion during the
research process (Birkinshaw, Bresman & Håkanson, 2016). One of the major functions of
research design in this paper will be to ensure that each and every evidence that is obtained from
the whole research will come up with one of the most reliable conditions to effectively address
the entire research problem that has been evaluated in relation to the entire situation. The
research designs majorly include the following;

MANAGEMENT
One of the major research design that is known to have the capability of fitting in this
research is the exploratory research that will be able to adequately explore various
conditions in order to find out quite a number of issues that are related to the whole
research questions thus being able to come up with an appropriate conclusion that is more
reliable.
Quantitative research design- This is a type of research design that is normally
implemented with an intention of examining the relationships that are capable of existing
between different variables through the use of different numbers and statistics in order to
explain and even analyze quite a number of findings. As a result of this, the research
design will be used in the analysis of various types of finding that are known to be
connected to the research question that is fully associated with this paper (Ferris & Judge,
2016).
Qualitative research design- This is the third research design that is known to have the
potential of appropriately fitting within the research. Additionally, it will be specifically
used to carry out an exploration of the entire research question in relation to it meaning
together with the understanding of quite a number of complex types of environmental
conditions that majorly include the nature of various experiences that is attached to
various individuals (Godey et al., 2016). As a result of this, it will be able to help in the
outlining of quite a number of questions specifically the ones that needs to be solved in
order to come up with reasonable results that can be easily understood (Brewster, Wood
& Brookes, 2017). Moreover, it will be used to carry out a deep understanding,
description and also in the discovery of quite a number of findings.

MANAGEMENT
In relation to all the above mentioned formed of research designs, this research therefore aims
towards implementing one major form of research design that will appropriately be used in the
addressing of the research questions in order to find out a reasonable results that can be
appropriately interpreted under various purposes thereby making sure that each and every
objective is well addressed according to all the rules and regulations that have been placed into
consideration (Hofacker & Belanche, 2016). As a result of this, the implementation of
quantitative research design will be given the first priority as far as this this research is concerned
in order to perfectly address the research questions that have been put into considerations
(Huang, Backman, Backman & Chang, 2016). One of the major reasons as to why the
quantitative research design is preferred is because it is more accurate and efficient when it
comes to the analysis of a particular set of data (Chuang & Liao, 2010). This is simply because it
majorly involves an advanced comparison of various types of variables in order to come up with
the right set of information that can be used as proper guidelines towards addressing various
situations among different individuals and organizations (Mishra & Modi, 2016).
Key variables and how they will be measured
There are quite a number of key variables that will be included in this research. Moreover, the
variables will be analyzed under various conditions right after carrying out some comparisons in
relation to how they are capable of relating with one another (Guest, 2011). The following are
some of the major key variables that will be measured in the research;
(1) Employee satisfaction- This is a variable that will be measured based on how the
employees will be handled within the organization under various conditions most so in
their respective work departments.

MANAGEMENT
(2) Product quality- Product quality is also another variable that will be appropriately
measures to clearly determine the nature of products that are capable of being produced
by an organization that is not concerned with an appropriate handling of employees who
are known to be attached to generation Y.
(3) Customer satisfaction- Customer satisfaction is also another variable that will be
adequately measured in order to come up with a correct set of information pertaining the
level at which the customer are capable of getting satisfied specifically when an
appropriate handling of generation Y employees is not taken into account (Hofacker et
al., 2016).
The measurement of the above variables will majorly include the implementation of quite a
number of procedures to make sure that an accurate result is generated without encountering any
confusion related situation. One of the major techniques that will be used to measure the
variables is the use of norminal technique of measurement (Hecklau, Galeitzke, Flachs & Kohl,
2016). A this level, it will be quite easier to carry out a differentiation between quite a number of
items or subjects in relation to all their names, categories or even through the use of different
forms of qualitative classifications that thy are known to be attached to. Moreover, all the
variables will also be measured thorough the use different aspects of ratio scale which will be
able to operate on a basis that measurement is the estimation of particular level of ratio that is
known to be existing between a particular type of magnitude that is known to be associated with
a particular quality together with a unit magnitude that appears to be of the same kind (Nestle,
2016). Each and every variable will be handled according to what is required thus making sure
that any conditions associated with assumptions are avoided as much as possible to take sure that

the resulting outcome is capable of being clear and understandable thus making it much easier to
evaluate what id taking place in the entire scenario (Hudson, Huang, Roth & Madden, 2016).
Sampling requirements and sampling options
Sampling requirements together with sampling options will be of much use in this research since
this is what the research will fully depend on in order to appropriately respond to the research
questions. Due to this, there are quite a number of sample options that the research is capable of
depending on thus leading to the achievement of what is required as far as the collection and the
analysis of the information (Jabbour & de Sousa Jabbour, 2016). The major sample that will be
requiring responding to the research questions is the sample of the employees who tend to exist
at the internal level of the organization. What is entailed in the research question is an issue that
is known to have the capability of affecting the employees since they are the ones who tend to
encounter such situations across different organizations that they are working for or even the
ones that they have always been able to work for at on particular point. Moreover, the generation
Y employees will be grouped into samples that contain a total of three members and as a result,
they will all be expected to appropriately respond to the research question in relation to their own
perspectives (Lemon & Verhoef, 2016). This type of sample size will be required to provide a
vast range of information that will be obtained from different personalities thereby making it
much easier to carry out an advanced form of analysis in relation to the whole research question.
The information that will be obtained from the sample attached to the research will be of much

MANAGEMENT
help when dealing with the analysis of the entire situation thereby providing an appropriate
condition to carry out various comparisons.
There are quite a number of options that will be used to access the samples without
straining too much thus making the entire situation to be quite interesting rather than being
boring. One of the major options that will be used to appropriately access this sample is the use
of random sample technique where the sample will be collected randomly across different
organizations (Kang & Snell, 2017). The majorly purpose as to why this formula will be
implemented is simply because it is more efficient and at the same time, it eradicates different
situations that are known to be connected to being bias thereby making sure that each and every
operation is carried out in a fair manner irrespective of the personalities who will be involved in
the process.
Ethical issues
Dealing with ethical issues within any given research is a condition that might look
simple but very sensitive. Ethics has always formed a foundation across quite a number of
researches that are being carried out on a daily basis. There are different types of ethical issues
that are known to be connected to the entire research where they even go as far as dealing with
the sampling procedure that has been appropriately chosen by the research(Järvinen & Taiminen,
2016). The first ethical issue is the respect for privacy (Martin & Javalgi, 2016). Privacy is
normally a certain level of freedom that is obtained by an individual or a particular group in
order to appropriately determine the time together with all the general circumstances under
which a particular set of private information will be shared or even withheld due to various
circumstances (Katsikeas, Morgan, Leonidou & Hult, 2016). One of the major options that can

9
MANAGEMENT
be used to deal with this ethical issue is to first inform the targeted groups of individuals on how
the information that they will be able to provide will be kept private as much as possible thus
making sure that no any other party is capable of gaining access to it or even doing an analysis in
relation to the information (Mariani, Di Felice & Mura, 2016). On the other hand, there is
another ethical issue which majorly involves the respect for anonymity together with
confidentiality. Normally, anonymity is always protected by a research when the identity of a
particular subject is not able to be linked with quite a number of personal responses. One of the
major options that can be appropriately implanted in order to make sure that that this ethical
issue is dealt with is to make sure that if the researcher is not capable of promising any
conditions that are related to anonymity, there will be the need for him to fully concentrate on
addressing confidentiality which will fully involve an adequate and reliable management of
different forms of private information by the researcher himself with an intention of protecting
the identity of the targeted audience (Huselid, 2016). The final ethical issue that the research will
be able to address is the issue of beneficence. It is an ethical issue that always tries as much as
possible to make sure that all the targeted groups that will be used during the research are not
harmed at all during the research process thereby making it much safe for them to participate in
the entire research process and be able to contribute towards its success. The ethical issue will be
dealt with by making sure that the entire research together with its analysis is kept safe as much
as possible thus avoiding the chances of causing harm to any group of targeted personalities.
Through this, the correct information that can be relied upon will therefore be obtained without
any complications or barriers being developed in between. Appropriate addressing of the ethical
issues by this research will make sure that it is capable of remaining relevant as much as possible
thus enabling it to address specific issues that are likely to contribute towards the emergence of

ones who are more concerned with taking their performance to the next level.

appropriately across different organizations and as a result of this; the organizations were
affected in quite a number of negative ways thus reducing their level of performance across
different markets. By this time, the poor management of the employees had not risen that much
since the total number of generation Y employees who were found within the market platform
was still in small numbers. By the end of the second year, the problem was able to rise to a total
of 55% causing threats to various organizations and even reducing their level of performance.
This is when the question related to poor management of the generation Y employees started to
ring across different organizations thus this where it started to emerge as a major concern. This
high rise of statistics is something that has never been experienced before compared to how the
organizations have been able to operate over the past years. Unfortunately, when the third year
ended, the problem was again able to move to the next level with an approximated percentage of
68% where it was able to greatly affect quite a number of organizations. The above statistics
have made various organizational leaders to come together and share ideas on how best they can
be able to solve this issue within different organizations. Due to the situation, this research
proposal therefore aims towards making sure that the whole issue is eradicated within an
organization through the implementation of various advanced techniques thus making sure that
changes are encountered towards the positive side. The issue of managing generation Y
employees is known to be fully relying on the hands of various organization leaders and as a
result of this, their strategies are capable of determining the conditions at which all the
employees will be handled in relation to the efforts that they will provide to their respective
organizations. There is the need to appropriately handle the generation Y employees to make
sure that the organization is not able to encounter any unnecessary effects.
