The term population healthcare has replaced patient satisfaction, as this new idea has
emerged out of the epidemic of disastrous diseases such as obesity, hypertension and many more.
Population healthcare aims a specific group of community and uses interventions to solve their
healthcare related problems to obtain specific patient outcomes (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2015).
This assignment is going to talk about the Columbian community and will discuss the healthcare
related problem it is facing. Further, it will comment on whether the healthcare facility working
in that locality, follows the three aspects of population healthcare or not. Finally, the role of
healthcare facilities and their impact will be discussed.
According to the Government data of healthcare of Columbia, within 681,170 population,
the primary healthcare problems the entire population is facing are diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease
and AIDS. One organization ‘Columbia valley community health’ has focused diabetes as the
prime health issue and targeted it to focus on three areas of healthcare, namely quality and
patient safety, care-coordination and prevention (Trust for America's Health, 2017). It is
important for public healthcare facilities to address the ‘population healthcare’ as nowadays, due
to different socio-economic status (SES), maximum population are neglecting healthcare. This
disparity is healthcare leads to health complications in people with lower SES and infection
makes the upper SES people suffer the consequences.
To find out the health issues of the community, the first thing that needs to be done is
enhancing the communication between healthcare workers and the people of that community.
Due to difference in SES and financial status, health deprived people do not approach healthcare
facilities for treatment. Hence, enabled communication between healthcare facilities and the
deprived population can lead them believe in the healthcare system and they start availing the
benefits for their own betterment. Conducting health promotional campaigns in the community,

interviews and questionnaires can put up a clear picture of the healthcare status of that
community (Shi & Singh, 2014).
The healthcare administration, following the three aspects of healthcare, should respond
first to the primary healthcare need of that population such as hygiene, clean water and food, and
affordable medication. The administration should focus on basic healthcare facilities by
educating population about the importance of health and hygiene. Further, by arranging
promotional programs throughout the community, arranging free health check-ups and
recommending higher medication can be done so that the community can engage themselves in
healthcare by promoting the benefits of health and influencing the entire community to avail the
benefits of population healthcare. Columbia healthcare facility also used these interventions for
the health and hygiene of the community.
The health initiative addressed by Columbia valley community health addresses the basic
need of the community, which is hygiene. It arranged several health promotional campaigns to
address different communities within urban and sub urban population of Columbia. The role of
healthcare facilities for such promotional campaign are important, as they can provide those free
health checkup campaigns for the community (Moses et al., 2013). However, the facility should
also focus on the SES related aspects of healthcare, which is one of the biggest reason for
negligence about healthcare within community. It is important for the facilities as the current
facilities are questionable for their payments for services. Population healthcare service can
change the way people see the healthcare facilities and hence, population healthcare is serving
the deed in the community
