AI Summary
This report delves into the critical issue of overpopulation, examining its multifaceted impacts on the environment and economy. The introduction highlights the growing concern of overpopulation in various nations. The main body analyzes two articles: one focusing on the environmental consequences of overpopulation, such as the strain on resources and the decline in the quality of life, referencing the UK's rising population and its correlation to unemployment rates; and the other outlining strategies for managing population growth, including contraceptive measures, education, and economic policies. The report critically evaluates these strategies, acknowledging the importance of early education while questioning the viability of certain economic approaches. The conclusion summarizes the environmental and economic impacts of overpopulation and the strategies discussed for population control. References include books, journals, and online resources.

INTRODUCTION
The problem of overpopulation has increasingly become a major problem for most of the
nations today. The report will discuss the importance of the population management and its
impact by two different articles
MAIN BODY
Article 1 was based on the problem of overpopulation and the impact that it has on the
environment i.e. the carrying capacity of the ecological setting. This article mainly stated that the
overpopulation signifies the excess number of consumers in the environment as compared to the
amount that is available for the survival. This leads to deterioration of the environment and the
quality of life also decreases where there is not enough for everyone’s survival i.e. food, shelter,
water etc. The article further states that the rising population also leads to unemployment as the
number of people seeking job ultimately increases as compared to the number of jobs available
(What is overpopulation and problems of overpopulation? 2016). The unemployment further
leads to the increased thefts, drug cartels and an elevated crime rate as well.
I am in agreement with the concept that has been stated above as it can be ascertained that
UK right now is the second most populated country amongst the European countries and is
expected to grow further at the top in future (Coole, 2018). There are 66 million people in UK
which is highest than it has even been in UK. This can be directly associated with the
unemployment rate of UK which is estimated at 3.9% which has increased after its decrease to
3.81% in the year 2019 (Overpopulation in the UK, 2020). Therefore it can be said that the point
presented in the article is valid and relevant as the increasing population is creating multiple
problems for the entire economy.
Article 2 discusses the strategies that can be used to stop short the population from reaching
billions. The nine strategies illustrated in this article are wide and cover a multiple number of
aspects at the same time (Nine Population Strategies to Stop Short of 9 Billion, 2012). The use of
contraceptive measures worldwide for both the sexes, increasing the age- appropriate sexuality
educations, eradication of the gender biasness in all the terms i.e. in legal, economic, cultural or
societal context and guaranteed sex education especially for girls are first four strategies that
have been illustrated by the author. Further the author discusses that the elimination of all those
reward policies that give financial assistance to the people based on the number of children that
they have, integrating the population oriented lessons with the environmental impact and the

effect on development as well are the next two strategies that will help the people at a young age
recognise the need to for limited population and thus have knowledge about this problem.
Further the article presents that putting up prices on the environmental costs and impacts,
adjusting to the aging population rather than boosting the child growth and leaders committing to
the stabilization of the population growth are some of the most preferred strategies that can be
adopted (Nine Population Strategies to Stop Short of 9 Billion, 2012).
I agree with article and its strategies o some point where the emphasis on the nurturing of
the people just when they are child is the critical and important aspect but putting up prices on
the environmental costs is not a viable option for many of the economies today thus not proving
to be a good strategy (Brotcorne and et.al., 2017).
CONCLUSION
The report concludes that the impact on the environment and on the economy due to
overpopulation is immense and the strategies that can be used to control the population were also
critically evaluated in report.
