INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional skill development helps in assessing the needs and demands
and assists in being competent regarding their profession. It ensures that knowledge and skills
are relevant and updated according to the needs. It keeps the skills associated with the changing
trends and direction within the industry. These skills are related with acquiring the information
and displaying the knowledge to other individuals (Doeze Jager‐van Vliet, Born, and van der
Molen, 2019). Professional and academic skills development enables students to develop skills
related to analytics and critical thinking for researching. Moreover, it also helps in developing
relation between culture and educational style while considering the effects due to personal
learning styles and knowledge. These development portfolios helps individuals to understand and
encourage them to monitor and take accountability for their work.
MAIN BODY
My long term goal in the professional life is to acquire the job position at the managerial
level where my skills and knowledge will be used to complete extent. While, the short terms
goals includes to acquire new skills working in the current industry. This is important as many
of the successful are looking to hire the best talents and abilities within highly competitive
market. Gaining the skills helps in making me impressing the current managers and my
colleagues. These skills will be lined up with my professional development goals within my
specialized field of interest while making it easy for me to move up with the ranks. Along with
this, my goal is to boost my networking abilities as building networks is helpful within managing
the business (KARTUSHINA, and et.al., 2018). It will influence my ability to progress while
developing social and professional contacts. Insights and information can be shared and gained
from these contacts. In addition to this, it will also help in building my confidence in starting the
conversation with other leaders coming from the same field.
My goal to develop in grow in my chosen profession includes interning within a large
company. This will help me to gain experience and an opportunity to provide access to work
experience about working with the large number of people working in the company. This will
also help in motivating me to start my own business as a part of my long term goal. The use of
internet has made the work of an entrepreneur easy on daily basis. It includes developing a plan
and working on certain steps to attain these objectives.

In the process of prioritising my goals, it can be seen that at such initial stage, it is
important for me to focus on short term goals. These will help to prepare me to attain the long
term goals as well. Developing both hard and soft skills within my professional career is my
priority. Developing the skills is a continuous process, that is it can be gained even when
working on a high level job positions. Learning basic skills will help me to be an eligible
candidate for the company to hire me as an intern. Internship will help me gain experience of the
corporate world and understand how the companies and their business work. Internship is the
best way to have a close look within the desired industry.
There are several skills important within developing a profession in the field of business
and management. These soft skills will hep me to impress the employer and gain competitive
advantage above other candidates (Sidebotham, and et.al., 2018). Communication skills are
important foe me to acquire a business management job and will help me to have an easy
communication efficiently with employees and business owners. Communication skills include
both verbal and non- verbal skills that are beneficial for having internal and external
communication. Communication skills are good practices to treat everyone with respect and
understand their perception. Leadership skills are important for business manager position that is
my long term goal. This skill helps in handling different issues that are faced within an
organisation. Leadership sills allows the work to be completed efficiently. It assists in solving
issues at personal level rather than taking it to the management level. In addition to this,
leadership skills allows delegation of the tasks and activities based on the qualifications.
Business management is an essential skill to work on a managerial level. It helps in
checking the internal spending of the organisation while ensuring that all the employees will
stick to the budget in accomplishing their assigned tasks. Business management helps in
planning for the budgets and increasing the knowledge of financial software that will help to
track the budget of the organisation. I have assessed my weak and strong points with the help of
the framework of SWOT analysis.
Strengths: My educational qualification is my biggest strength. I have graduated from the
course of business management. I am very patience and calm in nature and therefore, I can
handle the stress situations well. My nature of being patience helps me to think properly to find
solutions during some critical situations (Romppanen, 2021). I am a team workers, it means that
I can work well people coming from different backgrounds and mingle with them easily. My

team working skills helps me to have understand and explore for ideas that have a unique
approach. I am a fast learning and when working with a team I learn from these different
perception and apply innovative approach. I am motivated to work that is in interest of my
knowledge. I have the ability to focus on completion of allotted tasks rather than being distracted
with small work.
Weakness: I may have many soft skills but I lack in skills such as technical skills that are
important to manage the work within the business. Moreover, I cannot pay enough attention to
the details. This skill is important to remember each and every detail related to work and execute
the tasks in specific way. This eliminated the chances of having a more detailed oriented outlook
within my work and lead to miss the things that are important (Heeneman, and Driessen, 2017). I
need a lot of work to improve my time management skills. Time management skills helps in
allocating time for each task and provides a more organized approach to manage the personal
and professional life. It helps in keeping an eye on the clock while assisting in completing the
activity within the deadlines.
Opportunities: I have the opportunity to apply for internship programs within several
start- ups companies, as they are looking for freshers who can help with their workload and learn
in the process. Moreover, it is high time for me to learn technical skills and move forward with
technological advancements. I can learn how to use various software helping in the business
management such as database management skills. It will help in process of working with the
spreadsheets while providing a proper management of offline filing system. I can join part- time
training programs that will help me increase my knowledge towards business management.
Business management industry is wide, I have the opportunity to attain a certification course in
one specialization area that will add up to my qualifications. I can attend many events and
business meeting, this will help me develop networking and build my connection that is included
in my short term goal.
Threats: High level of competition is the major threat on my professional career growth
within business management. I am just a fresher on my way to improve and develop my hard and
soft skills whereas there are individuals with high experience and knowledge that are better when
compared the overall knowledge I have regarding my field. There are so many qualified
professionals looking to attain the same level in the career as I do. This high competition has lead
to decrease my confidence that I can actually attain my goals. Meanwhile, I am not good at

problem solving skills which is important when working in a team and with a group of people.
Internships can add good on the professional profile while some companies will not consider
internships as experience and will lead to waste of this time.
I am very motivated and dedicated towards attaining my goals. I was able to draw the
ideas about the areas which require me to improve and give more time for the practice. In the
beginning I was in stress as there is high competition within the market and my skills were not
good enough to help me gain competitive advantage (Galán-Mañas, 2019). However, this
motivated me to do better and work on learning new skills that are important for my professional
career. Gaining more knowledge and skills helped me to raise my confidence in a good way and
be afraid of any rejection from job but take it as constructive criticisms to improve. Working as
an intern in a reputed organisation helped me to understand the practical use of my knowledge
and while understanding how my field works within the corporate business world.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that personal development portfolio helps in attaining a centred
approach for the personal development of an individual. It helps in improving the capacity of an
individual and understand their learning abilities. Moreover, it also encourages them to monitor
their activities and plan for the future of their career accordingly.
