INTRODUCTION
An individual must possess personal as well as professional skills for managing business
activities effectively. Personal skills are related to how an individual is expressing himself or
herself in front of others. Managers can tell the level of an individual's personal skills by
observing the way of interacting with other people at workplace. The following report includes
summary of the portfolio and in the second part there is analysis of different skills that a student
possess.
Summary
The content of portfolio is defined as an authentic assessment of candidates. This is a
collection of completed work. This explains what are capable of doing and what students have
learned. Portfolio is representation of the students and university and the professors who have
influenced the work done by students.
Rationale for choosing portfolio – An individual who is studying in the university is able
to learn new ideas and innovations each day. It is necessary to develop skills by a student for
managing the work.
How skills help in academic life - When I was learning in this university, I gone through
various experiences and situations where I have the opportunity for shaping academic life. These
experiences helped me in developing my personal skills. Also I developed professional skills that
helps me in managing my work effectively. There are different academic skills which are
essential for me as they help in improvement of my working ability. This also increases the
opportunity for growth and development in academic life. Some of the major skills of mine
include communication skills, presentation skills, team and group working and academic
writings. The main benefit I had while learning skills in university include communication skill. I
have developed communication skill from university. This has helped me to enhance my ability
to talk to different individuals with whom I have to work. Also, the presentation learning also
helped me a lot in academic as well as future professional life. Presentation is the key role in
providing information to audiences about what business is offering. Thus the development of
presentation skill has helped me in evaluating how target audiences are attracted and given
presentations. As my experience, it is concluded that I have developed various skills while doing
assignments and projects within the university. I also learnt that it is necessary for me to have

good body gesture and appropriate body language while communicating my work to other
individuals. I have to ensure that I will have appropriate gesture, pitch volume, dressing manner,
body language and many other essential things while providing presentations in university. It is
essential for me to have various skills and abilities in order to attract students. There must be
improvement in academic writing skills that helps me in gaining high marks in examinations. It
is also important that I have to develop and grow skills and abilities that help in doing well in
assignments and projects. It is important for me to have good academic knowledge of various
factors related to the academic professionals. I was involved in managing my project work
effectively by utilising the skills effectively. The main responsibility of a student is to have
bright future and this is possible when the student possess all the skills and abilities. Effective
communication and reflective skills helps in managing work appropriately.
There are number of skills which I have used while learning in the university. These
skills are acquired by me while attending sessions. Academic skills helps students to grab
opportunities and develop professional growth. There were some academic skills that helped me
in doing good work. Some of the skills are mentioned below –
Wk 1 – FY026(Preparing for success – Knowledge and creativity)
There are key points given in this document. It is important to consider ID badges and
attendances while doing any academic writing work. There are some points to be considered
including blackboard. This will be a key system and resource for the students. It will help me in
planning and managing targets and in this way work will be done. Also, this will help in
developing knowledge and creativity. After this module, I will be able to produce an academic
study and allowing learning regarding the employment in the twenty first century through
problem solving and creative thinking.
Presentations FY 026
This is another essential skill that is required within students. In this university I learnt that
the most interesting and compelling factor while giving presentation is the personality of the
person and confidence. It is very important that while giving the presentation, the most important
factor is confidence (Afflerbach, Pearson, and Paris, 2008). I can capture audiences by me

presentation if I am confident about what I am talking. While attending the classes, our professor
used to evaluate us on the basis of group presentation. I learnt how to provide good and effective
presentations.
Presentations example of structure
This includes development of presentation skills. According to this module, it is written
that skills of students is developed by involving them in different activities. Firstly, all the
students are given a topic for the task. They are explained that there are basically three parts of
the presentation including introduction, main body and conclusion. The main thing is the
selection of topic on which presentation is made. Also referencing is also an important part of the
presentation. Proper citations must be done for making effective presentations.
FY026 Preparing for success
This module includes brief of preparing success including knowledge and creativity. This
explains that there are some skills that an individual has to possess while making a successful
report or presentation. The report will be based upon communication skills, and at last there will
be reflection. As per this module, students have to develop the Bucks Graduate attributes that are
related to knowledge and the application and creativity. This module will help students to
prepare successful progression to higher level. There are various skills required for completing
project work. some of these include reading skills, reflection, communication and academic
writing skills.

Critically evaluate
Critical thinking is the ability for thinking clearly and rationally. This means understanding
the logical connections between ideas. This means the ability for engaging reflective and
independent thinking. I have developed critical thinking while learning in this university (Yahiji,
and Ainiyah, 2019). I have analysed critical thinking helps me in doing various projects
effectively. As a critical thinker, I develop various rigorous question ideas and assumptions. I
can easily determine the importance and relevance of arguments and ideas. This helped me in
approaching problems in a systematic and consistent manner. Critical thinking will help me in
future to make better results for the business problem.
Cover
The reflective thinking is defined as analytical thinking practise that helps an individual to
evaluate his or her work. While attending the lectures, I learnt Gibbs reflective cycle. This is a
technique which includes five stages including description of what happened, feelings,
evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan. I used this model while doing various projects
and assignments when I have to write reflection. The use of reflective thinking helps in
evaluating my work in effective manner (Shin, 2019). This is essential for me to develop
reflective thinking skill so that I am able to manage my evaluating skills. I used the Gibbs model
of reflection for writing my work effectively. This model helps in evaluating myself and writing
down my experience in effective manner.
Benefits of data interpretation
The data interpretation is an essential skill that helps in analysing and evaluating various
results and outcomes. I am good at analysing things and making good results. also I am good at
taking care of each and every minority in doing every work. In this way, I do effective
researches. This will help me in future to do good work and make recommendations. Data

interpretation is defined as process for collecting and evaluating useful data for making results.
this collection is included in the form of graphs, pie charts, tabular forms, etc. A peoper
evaluation of all data is important for making correct results.
Analyse
There are different ways of evaluating data. One of main way is doing SWOT analysis
which is defined as analysing strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. It is important for
the companies to evaluate their strength and work hard for using these strength and make them
opportunities. The SWOT analysis is used by companies to formulate strategies and plans for
making profits for the company. This is a useful technique for evaluating different projects of
business. This is an effective method for maximising opportunities and minimising negative
factors that are related with business projects. I was taught in class that SWOT analysis helps
businesses to know what are the strength and opportunities of a business and how a company
should run (Nicula, and Spanu, 2019). I was taught that all businesses have to undergo SWOT
analysis so that they can grab success within market.
Analyse and other essay terms
Another way of analysing data is doing PESTEL analysis which is defined as an approach
used by companies in order to analyse national as well as international markets. A PESTEL
analysis is framework that is used by marketers for analysing and monitoring the macro
environmental factors which have great impact on the organisation (Paul, and Elder, 2019). The
result of PESTEL is used for identifying threat and weakness that are used in SWOT. The
PESTEL analysis stands for political, economical, social, technological, environmental and legal
factors that affects the functioning or expansion of business. I learnt that these factors have to be

analysed by business if they are starting business in another country. This evaluation provides
opportunity to increase the profit opportunities of market.
What is success
This module explains how success is achieved by people. the first and foremost thing to do
is to set the right kind of goal. There is need to have proper planning before executing the plan.
Success is not a destination but it is a journey. In a student’s life success is writing good
researches and projects and attain good grades. This will help in future to develop good
researches and projects of the organisation.
Introduction to TIC
This is basically a personal and professional development programme. This is helpful for
individuals as it enhances several skills required by individuals to work in an effective manner. It
is very important for me to acquire skills that will help in conducting good researches in future. I
can achieve my dream goals by performing in excellent manner. Reflection helps in managing
my own skills required for doing work.
Brief
This brief is based upon how to prepare for success at university. In this brief, it is asked to
create a portfolio using the blackboard tool. This contains LO’s including effective
communication skills that are applicable for academic and professional contexts. There is also
need of reflection on the individual performance, behaviour and experience. The given work will
be assessed on the basis of knowledge of work presented in the academic writing and
presentation. The report has to be made in Arial font. There must be no plagiarism. I learnt that

it is not allowed that we should use materials, essays or work of other students while submitting
our projects or assignments (Josefsson, Green, and Normark, 2019). I ensured that all the work
I did must not match with other students. It was fine to take help from seniors and teachers by
asking them what has to be done in the assignment but it was not right to copy assignments and
projects of other students. As a student, I ensured that I am not using work of others.
CONCLUSION
It is analysed from the above discussion that a student must have different skills and
capabilities that help in carrying out a successful academic life. Some of the skills that a student
possess are communication skills, presentation, team management, critical thinking, reflective
thinking etc. In order to have great future in professional life, it is important for me to have all
these skills. These skills are related to my professional growth. If student excels in these
approaches, then it is beneficial for their growth and development.
