PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES
Methodology of Panoptix by Johnson Controls
Johnson Controls is commonly referred to as the company, which aims towards the
innovations for the improvement of energy efficiency along with that of the sustainability as
well as building up of the efficiency related to that of work (Rasnacis & Berzisa, 2017). The
proposed concept of project consists of the primary objective, which refers to the collection
as well as management of data being collected from the relevant data sources belonging to
the building systems along with the inclusion of meter as well as data of the weather. The
proposed project also has the extra-added feature of the efficiency that it provides to the
building applications.
The proposed methodology that has been used within this proposed project is the
Agile development methodology. Agile methodology specifically refers to that of the
process, within which the particular project is broken down into a number of subsidiary steps
to have a better approach towards the completion of the project (Lensges, Kloppenborg &
Forte, 2018). This method involves the collaboration of all the stakeholders related to this
project of the Panoptix done by the Johnson Controls and is aimed with the primary objective
to improve the stages of the project after every single iteration takes place.
Within this project, the initial stage was to meet with the clients of the project and
place a detailed explanation of how the project is supposed to meet the problem statement of
the building system and solve the respective problem that has been aimed. This meeting with
the client specifically gives a clear idea about the expectations of the customers from the
particular project team. Once the work for the project began, the project team that has been
allocated with this particular task revolves around with the completion of the various
processes such as the likes of planning, execution of the project as well as the evaluation
(Hoda & Murugesan, 2016). All of these sub processes together provide towards the better

delivery of the project to the client, and in turn to the expectations of the customer. The
project shall be executed with the primary objective of having a good team management
within the team, having a better understanding with all of the stakeholders and in turn,
making the usage of all the resources available to aim towards the completion of the project
(Talman, 2018). Hence, to build up a data system, which particularly aims at the collection as
well as management of data belong to the other data sources such as the likes of meter as well
as the data related to that of the weather.
Principles of Project
Principles of this technology platform for data management project have been planned
and executed following the six main principles that are being followed in general for every
single project procedure (Kerzner, 2017). The main six principles that have been followed as
well as implemented within this procedure of project related entirely towards the technology
platform created by the Johnson Controls as measure for the collection as well as
management of data that is completely maintained with the cloud data service. These are,
i) In order to have a successful implementation of the technology platform, this
project in particular shall have been initiated with the only primary objective to
overcome all the possible occurrence of obstacles within the pathway and achieve
the completion of the project.
ii) The very next step refers to the establishment of two or more subsidiary objectives
for this particular project. To have a brief idea about the increase of its sales along
with that of the benefits, the loyalty of the customers when the product is out in
the market, productivity of the employees related to the Johnson Controls and the
morale of the employees to be specific (Harrison & Lock, 2017).

iii) To have the clear idea about the number of employees required for the building up
of the project team, the number of meetings that needs to be scheduled for the
coverage of all the agendas related to the development of this particular
technology platform by the Johnson Controls as well as the goals to be met after
each of the scheduled meeting takes place.
iv) The next step is to devise all the ideas aimed towards the proper implementation
of the technology platform related to the data collection and management of the
same data procedure. All the ideas given by all the employees within the project
team of the Johnson Controls are gathered together and planned towards the
successful execution of the project.
v) To have the project be a successful execution, the organization puts forward the
idea to all of the existing employees working within Johnson Controls to present
their views and share the fact that the success of the project will be beneficial to
all of the employees whether they are directly related to the project or not
(Heagney, 2016).
vi) When, the steps of the project was being planned, the execution of each and every
step was successfully measured so that there is no loss of accountability or
measurement of the loss, which might occur if the project would have faced a
failure by any chance.
Processes of the Project
The process of a particular project refers to every step, which shall be followed by the
project team to have a successful venture regarding the completion of the project (Fleming &
Koppelman, 2016). The main processes that have been involved within this technology
platform creation based upon the cloud service regarding the data collection and management
procedure,

PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES
i) The start of the project included the identification of the problem, which actually
needs to be identified and worked towards the successful provision of a specific
product for the customers. The initial phase includes all the gathering of
information needed to build the technology platform having the extra feature of
managing the data as well as the efficiency of the energy in the building sites for
the improvement of the working within the technological field.
ii) The next step refers to the process of project preparation, which includes the
gathering of all the necessary resources required for the completion of the project,
successfully (Chapman, 2018). All of the resources consists of the inclusion of the
raw materials to be specific along with that of the costs needed for the specific
acquirement of such raw materials.
iii) Project planning is considered to be the next step for the project processes that
need to be engulfed for the successful completion of the project. This process in
particular, refers to the planning of all the meetings that need to be held before
each of the steps that need to be adopted. In addition to this, the planning of each
of the steps in relation to the implementation within the technology platform needs
to be done so as to deliver the product to the clients as well as the customers in a
proper form aimed at the satisfaction of both of the parties.
iv) Project implementation generally refers to the process within which all of the raw
materials acquired, the blue print of the system made, processes that have been
devised for the completion of the project as well as the accounting and finance is
brought together and clamped to implement all of it within the project that was
proposed.
v) The last step necessarily refers to the completion of the project where the
implementation phase has been done with, and the final testing of the technology

platform is done to check if it at all attains the objective of managing the data
along with that of the energy efficiency within the sites for the building
construction (Kerzner, 2018). Hence, the product after the testing is delivered to
the client.
Project Practices
The practices generally refer to the side procedures that a project team needs to
undertake in order to have a better result or outcome of the project that has been aimed at
(Golini, Kalchschmidt & Landoni, 2015). The practices that was undertaken within this
project of creating a database system for the efficient management of the collected data along
with the efficient usage of energy within the building sites,
i) The stakeholder of this project, that is the Johnson Controls was ensured about the
fact that the development of this online platform will attain the primary objective
of being successful and will not face any kind of failure.
ii) Creation of a risk response team in case there is an arousal of any kind of risk
within the developed technology platform performing the task it has been
specified for.
iii) Creation of a work plan that is detailed refers to the proper planning of all the
steps that need to be taken for the proper completion of the project without having
to face any of the difficulties.
iv) A proper communication within all the members of the project team was
effectively done, which is evident from the fact that the project was successfully
built without having any issues related to that of the communication within the
team.

v) The leader of the project team shall have the basic acquirements of the leadership
qualities as a means for the successful running along with that of the successful
completion related to that of the project (Badewi, 2016).
vi) This particular project was done having the inclusion of the specific constant
monitoring upon the various individual aspects of the project along with that of
the tracking. The tracking particularly meant the keeping of regular records
regarding each individual task that was being done every single day of the project
duration.
