The power of anything comes basically from the ability to reward another person. In the case
study of The Blue Spider Project Shenoy defined 5 types of the power including Legitimate,
Reward, Expert, Referent and Punishment. These all kind of powers can easily be seen in the
case study in various characters.
The legitimate and also the reward power used by Henry who is the Director of Engineering as
he offered the power to Gary and also gave the reward as he transferred the thing that he desires.
The referent power can be seen in character of Gary as he was accountable for the work which
has given to him by Henry. When it comes to the coercive power it has been seen when Gary
demanded some kind of contract from Henry. The character of Gary defines the expert power as
he was having a deep knowledge about R&D (Research & Development) and he has been forced
to work with the administration department. The project manager can easily use these kinds of
power by giving the team members responsibility for improving the project success.
As per the case study ability of the influencing can helps in doing the people development, helps
in accelerating results and also helps in maintaining the better working environment.
Influence is basically the capacity of affecting all the outcomes of the particular results.
Influencing and manipulation are both different terms as influencing helps in working based on
the own information whereas manipulation involves working with the given certain information
due to the fear (Karlsen et al., 2020, p.247).
