Week 1
Learning Outcomes
Explore and understand the life cycle of a project and its associated practices as well as
knowledge area, use case studies to expand and better understand the principles of project life cycle
management using practical/ case studies. To explore and understand project success criteria is
aligned to resources, time, cost and quality measure principles, in the context of the project domain
Experiences
To achieve these learning objectives, I was able to read the provided course texts
(Kerzner)and resources using the internet through the Moodle. I was also able to read the provided
case studies along with video presentations and gained a working understanding of the project life
cycle, as well as various standards approaches to project management, including PRINCE 2. I also
read widely from content from the PMI
My Learning
I learned that a project is made up of several steps that must be followed to ensure successful
project management. Typically, a project goes through the phases of initiation, planning, execution,
monitoring and control, and finally, closure. I also learned the various stakeholders in a project,
including the project manager, and the various documents to use in each phase of the project life
cycle (Kerzner, 2015).
Week 2
Learning Outcomes
Understand project management methodologies and how they can be applied to ensure
project success. Understand the reasons why many project fail, and how the project failures
manifest themselves
Experiences
I studied the provided course materials keenly and was able to learn and understand the
meaning or project failure form a historical perspective. The content and material was enriching and
written in simple, easy to read and understand format, with creative illustrations and examples
(Kerzner)
My Learning
I learned the causes for failure, and types of project failure. I also now understand the
various project management methodologies, where they can be best applied, and an understanding
that the wrong project management methodology can also lead to failure (Christina & Margaret,
2013). I understand the project management maturity model and their levels, as well as the fallacies
that delay project maturity model as put forth by Kerzner

Learning Outcomes
Stakeholders in a project, staffing projects, the project manager and his/ her role in the
success of the project and how to ensure the selection process is effective and will net the most
suited project manager. The cone of learning in the context of project management

Read and understood the well written and clearly illustrated course material (Kerzner) as
well as peer reviewed articles on the topic area
My Learning
learned why staffing must be done effectively and systematically in selecting the project
manager. I now understand better why a project manager is crucial to the success of a project as
well as the role of the project team in successful project execution (Mossalam & Arafa, 2016). Also
understand the role of the project management office

Organizational project management, its benefits, and how it ensures the project, program, ad
portfolio remain aligned
Experiences
Used the well illustrated and explained course content, with suitable examples that made
learning effective, deep, and enjoyable
My Learning
Organizational project management and its benefits in project and organizational success, I
now understand well how OPM is implemented and the best approaches to use, how the actions of
the project team and manager, the parent organization, and customer organization determine project
success. I also understand the crucial role of the project manager in managing stakeholders and
ensuring project success (Kerzner, 2015).
