1 INTRODUCTION
Project management methodology is an important aspect of project management since it provides a
way for better management of the project. There are a number of benefits of making use of a
project management methodology as it helps in clearly defining the goals of the project. The use of
project management methodology helps in organizing the team in such a way that the goals of the
project are fulfilled. The success of the project largely depends on the skills, competence and the
determination of the project team and the performance of the team. Furthermore, the use of
project management methodology helps in effective decision making. Project management
methodology helps in easier management of the different operations of the project (Fleming &
Koppelman, 2016,). This 12 week’s learning has provided an understanding about the reasons why
organization adopt project management methodologies in the organization. The main reason behind
an organization making use of project management methodology is to ensure better management of
the projects. The stakeholders associated with the projects is largely impacted by the choice of the
project management methodology and the project management approach that will be followed
while implementation of the project (Beringer, Jonas & Kock, 2013). This is mainly because it is
mostly the responsibility of the stakeholders to set the goals of the project. There are certain
elements of project management methodology that helps in easier implementation of the projects.
This unit has provided with a complete knowledge of the different project management
methodologies in the organizations. The use of the major elements of a project management
methodology in reflected in the portfolios of 10 weeks.
2 COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
2.1 Learning Outcome 1: Explain reasons why organisations adopt Project Management
Methodologies
Summary
It is very interesting to learn that the project management methodology and the different elements of
project management methodology help in easier project implementation. There are a number of
reasons behind an organization adopting project management methodologies. The first and the
foremost reason behind the use of project management methodology is that it helps in effective
planning and helps in controlling the project deliverables (Heagney, 2016). The choice of a particular
project management method helps in planning the project quite effectively so that the entire project is
in track. The use of a particular project management methodology further helps in implementing the
contingency plans for project risk management. The choice of project management methodology
helps in successful execution of the project.
Another significant advantage of making use of a project management methodology is that it helps in
better management of the project risks. Risk management is an important aspect of project
management as it helps in addressing the different issues associated with the project (Kerzner, 2017).
This is one significant reason why organizations adopt project management methodologies. The
process of adoption project management in an organization is associated with a number of risks that
might arise from organizational resistance, communication breakdown and insufficient training of the
staffs. Therefore, for optimizing the process of risk management, it is essential for the organization to

adopt the different project management methodologies for successful project execution (Caniëls &
Bakens, 2012).
Evidence
The knowledge about the different concepts of project methodology and the need of project
methodology in the organizations is gained from the 12 weeks’ learning of this unit. The knowledge
about the different project methodologies are reflected in the weekly portfolios.
2.2 Learning Outcome 2: Critically analyse the impact of Project Management
Methodologies upon stakeholders
Summary
Stakeholders play an important role in ensuring project success as it is the responsibility of the
stakeholders to analyse the project goals. In different projects, certain stakeholder management
techniques are used in order to ensure that the stakeholders associated with a project are properly
managed. Stakeholder’s involvement in a project is necessary in order to ensure that the project is
implemented according to the needs of the project (Devi & Reddy, 2012). The choice of the project
management methodology is an important decision concerning the stakeholders of the project. The
choice of project management methodology therefore has a strong impact on the stakeholders of the
project.
A project methodology determines the process by which a project is implemented. The stakeholders
associated with the project should have a proper knowledge about the project schedule and therefore
are largely impacted by the choice of the project management methodology and the process of
implementing a project. Stakeholders are needed to have a knowledge about the project progress and
therefore choice of project management approach has a considerable impact on the stakeholders of the
project.
Evidence
The project stakeholders are an important entity for a project as major decision associated
with the project is taken on basis of the interest of the stakeholders. The knowledge about the
stakeholders that is gained in this unit has been reflected in the weekly portfolios. The choice
of project methodology largely depends on the type of project and since the project goal is set
by the project stakeholders, it is important for the stakeholders to have knowledge about the
selected project management methodology.
2.3 Learning outcome 3: Explain and justify the major elements of a Project
Management Methodology that might meet the needs of an organisation
Summary
There are a number of elements of project methodology that is needed to be considered for this
project. The choice of the project methodology largely depends on the type and the schedule of the
project. The different elements of a project management methodology include project scope
management, evaluation of the project goals, schedule and complexities of a project (Doloi, 2012).
The different elements of project management methodology that meets the need of the organization
include planning, scope, requirements and resources and project schedule. The need of these elements
in an organization is quite important as a project management methodology ensures that the project

will be implemented according to the plan. Therefore, the need of these elements in an organization is
justified.
Proper planning of the project work is an important project element that will ensure that the project is
implemented according to the project schedule. Evaluation of project scope is essential as it ensure
whether a project can be implemented or not (Dybå, Dingsøyr & Moe, 2014). The process by which a
project is implement can be ascertain with the help of project management methodology and therefore
the need of considering the different elements of the project management methodology in an
organization is quite high.
Evidence
I have understood the need and importance of different project management methodologies in
organization while working on different projects. Furthermore, the details about the different
elements of the project management methodology and its need in the organization are
reflected in the weekly portfolios.
3 DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

The 12 weeks learning on project management has helped in gaining a critical understanding
of the different methodologies and its elements. The use of a proper project management
approach is integral in a project as it ensures timely completion of the project. The learning of
12 weeks has helped in obtaining a knowledge about the need of project management in
organization and role of the project stakeholders in ensuring project success. The choice of a
particular project management methodology has a huge impact on the stakeholders associated
with a project as the project goals are mainly set by the project stakeholders. Knowledge
about the different elements of project management is essential in order to ensure that the
project is implemented according to the plan. Project planning is an important element of
project management as it serves as a guide for proper execution of the project along with the
timely project delivery. Choosing a particular project methodology is therefore essential since
the success of the project depends on the same. This portfolio provides the details of
knowledge gained while attending this unit. A organization make use of project management
