Project management is application of processes, methods and skills for achieving the
objectives of the project.
The core components of project management consists of:
 Define reasons why project is required
 Prepare of business case
 Develop and implement of management plan for project work
 Monitor of progress against the project plan
 Manage the budget of the project
The lecture slide defines the five process groups such as project initiation, project planning,
project execution, and project monitoring and control as well as project closure.

It is defined as achieving the objectives in
schedule and budget for satisfying the
stakeholders from the experience.
Example of success project: Iridium
project
The project is successes when it meets with objectives under the budget along with under
schedule. I had noticed that the project was at success when it is delivered on schedule
along with agreed budget. It delivers benefits and meets with expectations of stakeholders.
The success level of the project is based on three levels such as:
Level 1: Project completion success
Level 2: Results success
Level 3: Development success
A system of 66 active communication satellites with the spares within orbit along with on the
ground. It is allowed worldwide voice as well as data communication with use of hand held
satellite phones. This project was considered as dream project for the Motorola.
Schedule: The project was on schedule and completed within estimated schedule.
Budget: The budget became more than the estimated budget and it was in limit. Final
report: The dream project went bankrupt in year of its launching of services.

Therefore, as the project work is within schedule and on budget, therefore the Iridium
project was at project success.

Lack of resources: The project manager faces challenges to predict who available to work
into the project tasks months and years. It becomes a bigger challenge when the team
members are expected to split the time among various simultaneous projects.
Scope creep: When the project manager is allowed the team to take new requirements
with change into orders, then both the timeline as well as budget is suffered.
Conflict into the methodologies: There are various methodologies into the project and it
is hard for the team members to use various PM methods to work together as common task
and deliverables.

Functional project manager
A good project manager assigns work for the project to the team members. The person also
discusses the state of work for the project. They provide feedback about the performance
on the project. They work with the employees for improving specific skills as it is related to
the project. The project manager schedules the project time and tries to finish the project
work within planned deadlines.
A project manager develops the project plan, execute the plan as well as manage changes
into the project plan.
A functional project manager is a good project manager as it is the duty to control the
functions of organizational units. The manger assigns the project and ensures to the
organizational strategies as well as vision.
Responsibilities of the functional project manager shows that if this type of manager can
become a good manager or not while performing the project work:

The project manager is dedicated as well
as committed to project.
As discussed in the portfolio, I am engaged to analyze the role and responsibilities f the
project manager so that I can look over the shoulder of the project manager to ensure that
the work along with request is best interest of the company.
Effective leadership of the project team is considered as important factor which determine
whether or not the project is successful. When the project manager is not establishing the
leadership role and their responsibilities for the start of the project, then it is difficult for
development of cohesive as well as higher performing team.
While dedicated to work as well as overall project, then the project manager digs to the
details of the organization. Into the small companies, there is requirement of big boss on the
project manager. In order to solve the challenges into the project, the project team members
are encouraged to create a good organizational environment.
The kick off meeting of the project is best setting for introducing the expectations of the
project manager around supportive roles and creates of awareness among the team
members about the undesired destructive roles.
The key is the project manager, as leader to prevent destructive roles from development by
display the supportive roles and acknowledge the team members when they are displayed
desired characteristics of supportive roles.
