AIDS IN YOUTH IN US

Introduction
• One of the global problem that had affected the youth worldwide
• It has also affected huge number of youths in the US population mainly
affecting the cohort from 13 to 24 years (Boyer et al., 2017)
• Centre for diseases, control and prevention have showed that about 22%
of the US youths accounting for about 44000 in number have been
affected by the disorder.

Review of Literature
• The prevalence of stage 3 AID in US at the end of 2015 was found to be
about 304.0 for the males and 90.2 for the females and the adolescents
• 25% of the infections are spread due to the injection used while
administering drugs in the individuals (Muhib et al., 2016).
• Lack of knowledge about the infection is one of the reasons of disease
transmission and therefore unprotected sex can be one of the reason for
the increased number of prevalence in the nation

Purpose of the Project
• Promotion of the community level awareness about AIDS within a target
community
• Popularizing the concept of partner notification for effective prevention of
the transmission of the infection (Clatts et al., 2017)
• Providing effective counseling for the patients with different positive
results

Description of Setting
• In choosing the correct setting, rehabilitation unit of the particular
university would be chosen
• Individuals in the rehabilitation units are seen to be engaged in drug
taking behaviors and hence it would be helpful for targeting the correct
population (Johnson et al., 2014)
• Moreover, a health promotion campaign and education session would be
also helpful for targeting all the young adults of the university.
• Nurse from the hospital will be appointed to understand the scenario of
subject population

Implementation of the Project
• Need to seek for permission from the college authority
• Need to seek for ethical permission to follow the protocol successfully
• Survey should be conducted
• Collected data will be analyzed
• Health promotion plan would be implemented accordingly after
determining the lack of knowledge of young people in each aspects
(Fisher et al., 2016)

Description of Response
• 51 students of the rehabilitation unit would be taken in consideration for
the survey
• 150 students from first year of graduation would be taken for survey

• Start anti-retroviral therapies who have been infected
• Developed awareness programs in a community based manner
• Health education session to the young people
• Encourage the young people about safe sexual activities (Bauermeister et

• Provide free of cost medication for the people who are suffering from the
disorders
• Provide HIV detection kits for identification of the correct sage of the
diseases
• Advocate to the government about policy introduction
• Counseling sessions for the affected individuals and arranging for correct
social support and referrals

Critique of the projects and conclusion
• only involving youths of the university but cannot involve the youths from
all over the nation
• very difficult to assess the implication of this project for the future
• If the project is found to be successful, this can be applied at a larger scale
in the nation and would help in reduction of the prevalence of the AIDs in
the young people in the nation
