Pride parade
Pride parades are also commonly known as pride events, pride marches, and pride
festivals. Generally, these are events that celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and
queer (LGBTQ) community. These marches aim at getting equal rights for the LGBTQ people
and the acceptance in society. These marches are carried annually in order to recall the Stonewall
riots in New York City in 1969. The first pride march took place in Chicago on June 27, 1970. In
addition, regions like Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America have organized some
significant pride marches. People actively participate in these marches to support the community
that has been looked down for so long. Further, the event is a way to promote equal legal and
human rights for the people who belong to the LGBTQ community (Caserta & Gibian, 2019).

The efforts have borne fruit and in the past few years, many countries have
decriminalized same-sex marriages. The pride marches have helped people to shun the prejudice
and discrimination that was embedded in the society. Moreover, the sense of equality is created
and people who are gay or lesbian are no more seen as diseased or sick. Pride parades have
profoundly helped in changing the mindset of the people towards this community and supported
them to be the members of the society (Admin, 2019). They do not have to hide or be in the
shadows. In fact, they can openly own their identity and sexual preferences. The transgender is
given equal rights and respect now, which wasn’t the case earlier.
