LITERATURE REVIEW
Concept of Equality and Diversity
According to the viewpoint of Ng and Stamper, (2018) Equality within an organisation can
be defined as important part of the firm which is related to maintaining and providing equal
rights to each and every individual who is working on different job within the firm. In the current
time, due to impact of globalisation there is continuous development within the concept of
equality and diversity. Equality can also define as a process or a legal practice within the
organisation which is directly related to maintaining a proper working environment. There are
different kind of rules and regulations in relation to maintaining the equality concept within the
firm. Diversity can be defined as an internal part of the organisation which arises due to different
background culture mentality and thinking of individuals were working on different jobs. These
entire individual have to work collectively within the organisation which give arise the situation
of equality and Diversity within the firm. It is important for government organisations to
formulate different rules and regulations related to equality and Diversity within the workplace
so that a proper working and environment can be established as well as discrimination related to
caste, gender, religion and many other things can be eliminated from the workplaces. In relation
to current business environment of UK, government is promoting equality concept continuously
where it also formulated different rules and regulations in relation to maintenance of equality at
the workplace. Author defined that there are various legislative frameworks and cert legal
legislations which are directly related to maintenance of equality and anti-discriminatory system.
Some of these are discrimination act 1995, race relations act 1976 and sex discrimination act
1975. These are certain rules and regulations on which government and legal authorities are
working to maintain a proper working environment for reducing inequality practices and
discrimination practices. Author also stated that organisation like Primark are adopting equality
and Diversity practices on the organisation and functioning. This is because these organisations
are operating with a higher number of employees who belongs to different culture and
background within the firm. It is important for the organisation to manage the large workforce
according to the resources available. It makes it essential for the organisation to pay these
individuals in an effective way so that it can understand the requirements as well as fulfil the
needs and responsibilities of the firm towards the employment of employees. Organisation
required efficient system which has to be used to manage the individuals were working on

different jobs for going to work on different jobs within the organisation. So equality and
Diversity concept can be implemented to achieve the objectives by establishment of relationship
within the organisation and employees for generating higher revenues and maintaining the
employees for a longer period of time.
The challenges related to equality and diversity
In viewpoint of Bencivenga, (2020), equality and Diversity at the workplace is very vast in
relation to organisation. This is because implementation of concept related to quality and
Diversity can directly impact on the performance of the firm as well as it can also bring different
kind of challenges in front of the organisation. This is because diversity concept includes
acknowledging the significance of differences by avoiding the discrimination and pushing for
inclusiveness. The first challenge which is faced by the organisation is having a right perspective
about the concept of equality and diversity. This is because organisation has to manage up proper
perspective which can be implemented to the organisation in relation to the implementation of
equality and Diversity. For practicing the concept of equality and diversity in the organisation,
manager needs to understand and develop a proper perspective in relation to Primark.
Organisation is trading at global level, this make it mandatory for the firm to develop a separate
perspective according to the current situation faced by the firm within the market related to
concept of equality and diversity. After fulfilling the requirements of this challenge organisation
will face the second challenge related to losing the personal and expanding the reduced work
productivity because of prejudices and discrimination as well as fulfilment of legal formalities.
There are different kind of legal rules and regulations which has to be followed by the
organisation when implementing the concept of equality and diversity. This is because there are
different kind of rules and regulations which are formulated by legal authorities of the nation.
These legal formalities are required to be fulfilled and are continuously changing according to
the need of the current environment. It is also mandatory for the firm to use these rules and
regulation while implementing the concept of equality and diversity. But these rules and
regulation of changing according to the current needs and requirement which make it essential
for the firm to bring flexibility and its structure to adopt the changes. In relation to the Primark,
manager within the organisation has to make it flexible so that it can adopt the changing rules
and regulations in relation to fulfilment of legal liabilities.

Taylor, (2017) states that there are different kind of other challenges which has to be
faced by the firm while implementing the concept of equality and diversity. This is because by
implementation of concept of equality and Diversity there will also chances of negative attitudes
of the management staff because of equality between each and every individual within the firm.
This will also give rise to the negative politics which can impact on the performance of
employees as well as reducing the talented employees within the firm due to this negative
politics. According to the author, these are some challenges which have to be faced by the
management of the organisation while implementing the concept of equality and diversity. These
are directly related to reduction in profitability and productivity but manager has to identify the
functioning within the firm so that it can reduce the discrimination negative attitude and address
all the challenges in an effective way to increase the productivity. It can be seen that concept of
equality and Diversity is important to the organisation for managing its successful operations.
This is because it helps in achieving the objectives and maintaining a separate business
environment which is helpful in nourishing the employee value. This will also improve the
productivity level within the firm because diversity brings motivation within the employees for
working toward the achievement of goals and objectives because of fair practices within the
firm. This is directly linked the personal goal of individuals to the organisational ones and
achieving them in an appropriate time frame.
Strategies to deal with challenges related to Equality and Diversity
According to the viewpoint (Martinsson and Griffin, (2016) the concept of equality and
Diversity is useful to the organisation but it also includes different kind of challenges which has
to be faced by the firm while implementing it. In relation to this, organisation can use different
kind of strategies and frameworks which are helpful in dealing with these challenges related to
equality and diversity. According to the other organisation can use different kind of strategies
where it can start with recognising the peoples and the differences between the organisations.
These differences are generally in nature like physical, generational, culture or personality basis.
Organisation news the system in an effective way where it can identify the nature of problem
related to management of equality and Diversity within the firm. Identification of problem is
helpful to the form in using a particular method which can be adopted a strategy which has to be
used to remove the particular barrier. Management team within the form can also use to focus on
a particular project related to implementation of concept. This is because for managing the

equality and Diversity within the organisation a firm can use to manage the workplace and also
manage the attitude and behaviour. The manager has to identify the behaviour of employees
while working on a particular job and take decisions according to their behaviour. This is helpful
in identification of a particular individual and using the concept of diversity for implementing on
that. There are also other strategies which can be adopted by the manager within the firm which
provide equal opportunity to the employees by managing the discrimination on the basis of sex,
origin, culture, believes, value and colour. It is the duty of a manager within the form to identify
that there will be no negative impact of managing the practices related to equality and Diversity
within the firm. In relation to organisation like Primark, manager within the firm can use a
strategy of zero tolerance and increasing the opportunities to the employees are the best suitable
strategies which has to be adopted to reduce the inequality. Bringing equality is important within
the firm to improve the productivity and managing the resources. Training and development is
also a method which can be adopted by the manager within the firm to reduce inequality and
bringing the concept of equality and diversity.
According to Thomson, Wei and Swallow, (2019), it is necessary to train the employees
about maintaining relationships by treating each and every individual equally. It is important
aspect within the firm to manage the individuals by providing the training and development in
relation to establishment of effective relationships. This will boost the productivity because each
and every employee has a great relationship with each other which helps in establishment of
cooperative environment as well as developing personal perspective of each individual about the
other persons working on different jobs in a particular department. Delegation of authority can
also use to maintain the environment related to full of diversity practices within the firm. This is
because it is helpful to the organisation in implementing the concept because by delegating the
authority by the supervisors to the employees. Employees will feel motivated as well as equal
important to the supervisor. This will increase their virgin as well as help them in developing the
concept of equality and Diversity within their mind set. Two states that, Primark can use
different kind of strategies which are helpful in managing the concept of equality and diversity.
This is helpful in achieving a separate market-based and improving the position of the firm in
appropriate time frame. It can be seen that using the strategies will help to the firm in achieving
its goals and objectives and maintaining a proper working environment which support the
equality and Diversity as well as talented workforce to the firm.
