As the reliability and maintenance professional a person has every kind of Technical
training but the basic knowledge of positive leadership principles the technical knowledge is of
no use. Despite the fact the person may have practical experience in working in the field but
leadership skills or something else which are needed to be gained with time and passion. Some
people possess leadership traits in them which help to pursue that profession but in the case of
engineering the leadership skills are quite unexpected. The most knowledgeable person in
proactive maintenance engineering cannot be a good leader where does the person who does not
have that much technical skills can manage a team quite efficiently.

In any kind of technical job, project management is necessary where the teams need a
supportive team leader to complete that project within time. In the team of Engineers, there are
people with higher creativity, innovative skills and other technical competence but this does not
always help them to be a positive leader. Only some of them can understand the importance of
leadership skills and indulge in pursuing them. Like any other jobs the maintenance engineering
also need proper leadership otherwise everything gets scattered without achieving the
professional goals.

theories a very little part can help the team members of maintenance engineers. Therefore, they
must follow three most important positive leadership theories.

The transformational leadership Theory has been defined as the leadership approach
which causes change in the individuals as well as the social systems. This creates valuable along
with positive changes in the followers. According to Theory of transformational leadership there
are four main components which include individualized consideration, inspirational motivation,
intellectual stimulation and idealized influence. All of these components can be easily related to
the individuals and the organisational performance positively it is the theory which helps the
positive leaders to execute the changes with the support of the team members.

The authentic leadership is an approach of leadership which emphasizes building of
legitimacy of the leaders through an honest relationship with their subordinates. This value there
in put in a project and then execute it on the ethical Foundation. According to this theory the
authentic leaders are the most positive people who have truthful self-concepts and promote

openness in any actions the authentic leaders encourage the team members and show empathy to

Servant leadership depends upon the impact, awareness, healing, conceptualization,
Persuasion, commitment comma stewardship and foresight. The servant leadership theory is
perfect for completing a maintenance engineering project where the leaders provide every type
of resources to the team members so that they can serve the customers in a best way possible.
This type of leadership originates from the feeling of serving others therefore the highest priority
of the leaders remains to serve their subordinates perfectly. It is the contribution to the greater
good of others and the leaders place interest of the others foremost in their works. They work for
giving benefit to the followers and build a great relationship with them to complete their project.

The capable and positive leaders in maintenance engineering need to have good
communication skills. They listen to the others and communicate what is right. They reach every
level of employees and communicate their messages successfully. They have organisation skills
which allow the subordinates to share their thoughts and contribute in the decision-making
process. The positive leaders do not allow any pressure to compress or slow down the growth of
the employees rather take the responsibility by themselves.

As positive leaders work for the development of the others, they follow the commitment
for keep the team engaged, efficient which bring respect to the leader. The positive leaders aim
to encourage potential therefore follow the method of appropriate hiring, training and retaining

this team and they know which person is the most fit for which job. Based on this, they give
opportunities to each of the team members and help them to overcome their weak points.

misunderstanding so that the subordinates can overcome any issue and they can contribute in the
decision-making process. Thus, the leaders can eliminate those issues within a targeted time.
