Tourism is an activity of investing time in exploring new places and it also helps
individuals in gaining knowledge about different cultures & history. This essay explains meaning
of Tourism. Further, this essay elaborate various problems faced by tourism and negative impact
on tourism by taking example of different countries.
MAIN BODY
For providing facilities to visitors tourism business is operated. Tourism organisation or
sector operate business of travel & tours by providing various facilities such as accommodation,
foods & beverages, travelling and transportation. Activity of tourism is a hobby of individuals
according to which they loves to visit new places. Different types of tourism activities are done
such as Pilgrimage, Medical Tourism, Sport Tourism and business tourism. Tourism is an
important element as it highly contributes towards development of economy. Scope of tourism is
increasing due to introduction of advances technology, development of new modes of travelling
and emergence of globalisation(Light, 2016.).
Tourism has a positive & negative impact on culture, society, economy and environment
of different countries. Beside various positive effect of tourism it also has various negative
impact. Various Dilemmas are faced by visitors while exploring different places which are
discussed below-
Understanding and managing tourism impacts: It is more important top manage &
understand impact of tourism on various factors such as economic growth and profitability .
Further, it is very difficult to analyse impact of tourism as m,any sectors and industries are
contributing towards economic growth of country. Tourism sector does not grow if it is not able
analyse impact. Thus, this dilemma is also faced by companies operating under travel and
tourism sectors(Hall and Lew, 2009).
Establishment of OYO & Airbnd- Introduction of various agencies which provides
accommodation facilities has a negative impact on tourism. As Airbnb, OYO and other business
who are providing same facilities are operating their business in local streets and in the main
markets of cities. These hotels provide services 24 hours with these local people of that area gets
disturbed. Because, of these government are not allowing these hotels to operate their business in
local area which in turn affects tourism as they faces problem.

whether they explore these villages or not(Chen, Liu and Wang, 2017).
This situation is faced by visitors in India & Cambodia. As poverty level is high in both
of these countries. For Example- In India children's and old aged individuals are sitting outside
the temples and begging for money. This has a negative impact on Pilgrimage Tour.
For Eliminating this dilemma visitor has to take some extra money with so they can
donate to them or they have to bring some valuable things such as food & stationary items for
children's(Lang, 2016).
Capturing Portraits- Many tourist take pictures of historical & cultural things such as
forts, temples and other monuments. Tourist also post this pictures on social media sites and
many individuals do negative comment on them which negatively affects culture and history of
country. Further, Government of the countries cannot impose restrictions on them and if
government impose restriction than it decreases interest of individuals in visiting these type of
places.
Individuals also takes pictures of old cities or individuals who wears clothes of different
culture and for clicking their picture they are required to pay money to them. This problem is
faced by visitors who are visiting cities and villages of India and Thailand. As both of these

with these uncertainties individuals does not like to visit these places with this customers in
tourism sector are declining(Tribe and Liburd, 2016).

attracts travellers as they are very popular. But, number of these places are declining day by day
this also affect interest of tourist and thus, it negatively affects tourism.
