DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL CAREER
The purpose of the study is to delve deep into the subject of attainment of the
professional development during the initial period of employment. In this context this study
attempts to provide answers of two vital questions related to the benefits of a new employee
from mentoring and engagement in skill enhancement activities.
Answer to Question 1
During the initial periods of employment, I will be benefitted by if he or she is
mentored by a proficient senior employee. As a newly joined person I will be unaware of the
systems or procedure of the work of the organisation, the mentor may guide me by
elaborating the process of work and the things he or she should not do. As a novice employee
I will also be benefitted by having valuable tips for time management from the mentor. The
mentor will also make me learn tricks which will make my work easier. Again, there may be
cases, in which I may face failures and feel demotivated. In this case I will receive a dose of
motivation, inspiration from my mentor. As a newly employed person I will also know about
the methods to improve the quality of my performance from the mentor (Jakubik Eliades and
Weese 2016). Again, as a novice employee, I may face challenging situation regarding the
understanding of any specific task, or, in case of meeting deadlines; in such cases I will get
every possible assistance from my mentor. For example, if I become mentally stressed due to
the workload, the mentor will help me by suggesting a quick refreshment options like having
lunch together in a good restaurant nearby, during tiffin breaks (Arora and Rangnekar 2014).

DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL CAREER
Answer to Question 2
As a new employee I can attain progress in my professional career by attending ACS
activities. This is because, the Australian Computer Society (ACS) is actually an association
for the professionals in the field of information and communications technology. The
Australian Computer Society (ACS) conducts annual conferences, Career Development
programs for Special Interest Groups, and also, professional development events for the
newly joined information technology professionals for the advancement of their professional
excellence (crunchbase.com, 2019). This association has more than 26,000 members
Australia-wide. Apart from arranging skill enhancement programs for the novice employees,
ACS also educate the new employees about Code of Ethics and a Code of Professional
Conduct (Acs.org.au, 2019).
As a new employee I can attain progress in my professional career by gaining
accreditation in specific technical areas- such as advanced software programming. The
knowledge of advanced software programming is essential for a software professional like ,
as the industry of information technology completely depends on development of software
(Hawkridge Newton and Hall 2018). In this digital era, everyday a new software or mobile
application is being designed using the latest coding and the older software or coding is
becoming obsolete. If I do not update my programming skill and do not become familiar with
the latest programming language, I will miss opportunities of growth in my career (Landers
and Armstrong 2017).
In the conclusion, it can be said that, training by mentor and attending career
development programs both are importance for the improvement of the performance of a new
employee.
