1PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION
Executive summary
The professional communication was improved by designing new protocol to work with
families and communicates with them to understand the scenario and then the safety plans were
created. The pilot training improved the professional skills, interpersonal and communication
skills among the workers, which allowed them to do the right things, i.e., reported immediate
cases where children were being harmed to higher authorities, social workers and police to
prevent such incidents. Even the human trafficking involving the young children had been
reduced to a large extent, which showed positive outcomes and as a HRM manager of the
organization, I would like to improve certain areas more and ensure that the workers commit
fully towards maintenance of ethical value and take part in the education and training programs.
This could make them enough aware and cautious while handling these cases of harm and
negligence of children and finally ensure maintenance of ethics, professionalism at work and
achieve growth at present and in the future days to come.

Introduction
The report is presented to discuss about the ways or approaches undertaken by the
Administration for Children Services in New York City to improve the safety, health and
wellbeing of children who have been the victims of some kinds of abuse, neglecting or harm.
According to the NYS laws, there are mandated reporters who have been assigned with the roles
and responsibilities of reporting about the victims and the subject of harm, negligence or abuse
that the children may have experienced. The topic will further illustrate about the causes of such
incidents along with the probable negative effects that may be experienced in the future (Beebe
& Mottet, 2013). According to McFadden, Campbell & Taylor (2014), it is the duty of the child
care centre workers such as doctors, nurses, teachers, police officers and other social care staffs
to report the allegations that are responsible by the law and ensure that immediate actions are
undertaken for improving the lives of the children and make them lead a better and healthy life in
the future. The Administration for Children Services in New York is dedicated to providing
Children’s services and acts as a Governmental agency to promote the health and wellbeing of
children and families in New York (Kadushin & Harkness, 2014).
Till now, there have been nearly 60,000 cases and investigations that are conducted by
the Administration for Children services promote the health, safety and wellbeing of the children
in New York City, furthermore deliver child welfare services, juvenile care services and
education services too. Because the entire focus is shifted towards the management of health and
wellbeing of the children along with the management of social services to ensure that the
children are not abused and even not thrown out of their homes due to some kind of negligence
or abuse. The children should be placed in the Foster Care, in case they would be removed from
their own homes and various programs are implemented for making them deal with their

emotions and stressed behaviors (Bosch-Sijtsema M., & Sivunen, 2013). The mission statement
of Administration for Children Services is to provide national leadership and develop various
scopes and opportunities for the families to create economically and socially productive lives for
people and at the same time, foster the development of health and wellbeing to become more
supportive and successful to them.
Management of education, training and personal or professional development
Various mentoring and emotional improvements sessions are to be arranged for the
individuals to make sure that they overcome from their grief, distress and understand about the
values and beliefs. This could make them more cautious about the roles that they should manage
in the future and understand that their lives had not been finished. They would learn to take their
own roles and responsibilities and understand the importance of life through interaction with the
care workers present at the Foster Care. The Government and regulatory bodies are also
responsible for supporting the Administration for Children Services in New York City to ensure
that the services are delivered properly and the ethical standards have been maintained to keep
the children safe and healthy, considering that the case of harm, abuse or negligence does not
occur again (Schoeneborn, 2013). The arrangement of training and education for the employees
is needed to make them handle the critical situations and work accordingly to serve the clients
and reduce the chances of incidents where children are being harmed or abused.
There were investigations done in many cases that showed that through the engagement
of families, it would be easy to support the families as well as address the safety related risks and
incidences of abuse, harm or negligence to the children. Jones, Savage & Yu (2014) stated that
the professional communication will also assist in identifying the areas of weaknesses and gaps

and then address the safety risks, provide parenting classes and arrange training to make sure that
the children are not subjected to any kinds of harm in the future. The families are t be provided
with necessary help and support to overcome the challenges such as poverty, isolation in terms of
social perspective, mental health and illness along with domestic violence cases. All these could
reduce the risks of children as well as keep them safe and healthy from any kinds of harm, abuse
or negligence (Oswal & Meloncon, 2014). The educational facilities would be promoted and
further investigations should be conducted to identifying the cases where the children are the
subject of harm or abuse, which has affected their mental and physical health and wellbeing.
With a proper vision to create a society where children are kept safe and through partnership
working the council of the city, it would be convenient and much easier to expand the preventive
services for the children and families in New York. This would furthermore support their
positive health and wellbeing.
A new protocol has been designed for working with the families who could receive the
preventive services and even communicate at regular intervals with the ACS. They could be
provided with relevant information resources and probable support to determine the risk factors
or children harm or abuse and manage safety plans afterwards to resolve the challenges. The
pilot training provided to the professionals of Administration for Children Services in New York
City could further contribute to safety, proper health and prevention of trafficking (McFadden,
Campbell & Taylor, 2014). There has been a great sense of urgency, which has further helped in
doing the right things at the right time to keep them safe and ensure proper support and working
in partnership for all the individuals living in New York.

Improvement of professional communication
The main goals of the organization are to manage the federal programs properly for
ensuring that the improvement of economic and social wellbeing is possible. The families and
young individuals should be trained for increasing their own economic independence and
enhance the productivity as well. This has improved the professional development and has been
reflected in one’s job performance and various reforms associated with the Social work at
Administration for Children Services in New York City. As the executive HRM manager, I
would like to state that the company has been committed to its services’ excellence and during
the past few years, new policies and laws are implemented to maintain good quality services,
furthermore support the health and wellbeing of people too (Featherstone et al., 2014). The
company has investigated cases where allegations have been made regarding such kind of abuse
or harm to the young children, and in case the necessary steps are not taken, the image and
reputation may deteriorate as well. Due to the high level of training provided to the social care
workers of the organization, they have been skilled and knowledgeable and understood the
importance of personal experiences. This has allowed collecting the feedbacks and complaints
made by the people and then actions have been undertaken to stop the issue thereafter. With the
professional development through training, the workers have learned to cope up with stressful
situations and interacted with the other employees at regular intervals to work as an unit for
fostering child care (nyc.gov, 2018). Their job performances have improved and it has also made
them follow the rules, regulations, codes of conduct and ethics to maintain the professional
standards and encourage personal feelings too.
Based on the statement of Pope-Ruark (2014), the professional development has
facilitated the communication process not only between the workers, but also created

convenience for them to communicate with the children and make them feel safe and secure. The
expansion of education and training at the organization helped in delivering appropriate services
t prevent child trafficking as well as involved the social media to raise awareness among people
(Malyuga, 2015). This was basically done for making people cautious about the occurrence of
incidents and made them report to the Mayor or social workers of the organization undertake
immediate actions and raise their voices against child trafficking or any other kinds of harm or
abuse experienced by children. The pilot training also improved the professional development
for the workers and made them work during cases of urgency to do the right for the children and
their families who were being served (Reimer et al., 2015). It is also to be noted that proper help
and support has been provided by the New Yorkers too to make this a priority and protect
children from harm, abuse and negligence. These necessary aspects are needed to improve the
professional communication and the individuals working there have experienced professional
development and growth to succeed at present and in the future as well.
Ethical and multicultural implications of the research
The ethical values are managed properly and considered as well by the organizational
workers to ensure that the professional standards are maintained. It will not only promote good
ethics and values, but also can result in maintaining a stable culture, with a diversified workforce
consisting of employees working together as an unit in coordination towards a shared vision and
mission. The professional development requires managing proper values and ethics and it can be
possible when the workers of the organization will work according to the codes of conduct, laws,
rules and regulations (Ivey, Ivey & Zalaquett, 2013). At Administration for Children Services in
New York City, the employees have learned to respect each other and interacted among each

other consistently, which established good and positive ethical relationships. Though the codes
of conduct and ethics do not represent the multicultural competencies such as skills, knowledge
and expertise, high level of commitment of the workers has resulted in serving for the wellbeing
of each other. There are skilled counselors who have been appointed by me, as a HRM manager,
to focus on the improvement of professional skills among the employees. This has allowed me to
clarify certain questions, understand, encourage and assist others to gain power and remain
satisfied too. The other practice guidelines applied within the organization have been followed to
ensure that any forms of discrimination within the workplace are prevented and the diversity
issues are resolved (Hanna, Crittenden & Crittenden, 2013). It is essential for the promotional of
a positive culture, where there have been principles of respect and caring that aspired individuals
working there to deliver their potential to the optimum level and maintain successful behavioral
standards.
Multicultural counseling is adopted by the organization to facilitate the professional
communication process and professional development through management of trainings and
prioritizing on the cultural competence in the service of delivery. The multicultural implications
are immense and fall within the ethical aspects, because it has raised awareness of the cultural
values, beliefs and biases, which can enhance the skills of employees and make them capable of
handling critical situations where there is an occurrence of harm or abuse to children (Fritz,
2013). Not only this, but also the people will gain learning opportunities to understand how the
situation can be dealt with and immediate reports can be made to prevent the children become
the subject of harm to own self or others. The professional within the organization have become
culturally skilled and engaged in communication to eliminate prejudice and ensured that children

are being communicated with and a positive emotional connection is established with the
children (Jones, Savage & Yu, 2014).
Conclusion
The topic presented about professional communication process as well as the professional
development and growth of individuals working at Administration for Children Services in New
York City to improve the health and wellbeing of community and save child children from harm
or abuse. There are multiple cases of human trafficking, children being harassed or bullied and
even those children who have been the subject of harm or abuse to others. It created negative
impact on their mind and deteriorated the physical and mental wellbeing and often the children
fail to rectify or resolve the issues properly. To manage these issues, professional standards
should be maintained and here the professional communication and development of procedures
proved to be useful for promoting good health and creating a better place for them to live in.
Administration for Children Services in New York City made sure to arrange interviews for the
managers with proper support and help from my side, which finally maintained the
professionalism among individuals too. The discrimination based on race, religion, creed, etc.
was prevented too, which maintained workplace ethics and stabilized the culture of the
organization, furthermore contributed to the safety and health of children who had been abused
or harmed within families. Therefore, it could be stated that the professional communication had
been a major aspect of professional development, which contributed to the business performance
enhancement ensured consistent service delivery to protect the children from any sort of harm,
negligence and misuse.
