1. Identify 3 people in personal and professional network
There are many people in personal and professional life from which we can learn and gain
knowledge. Similarly, in my life as well there are some people from whom I would like to work
as mentor. They are as follows :
Teacher- his name is Jack Smith who was my teacher in college. He taught me 2 years.
Manager – Phil jones who was my manager in previous company where I worked. I worked him
2 years (Able, Doerflinger and Loveys, 2017 )
Friend- Shawn Dice who is my child hood friend. We are friends since 5 years.
So, these are all people in my life with whom I would like to work as mentor.
2. Rationale for choosing and knowledge, skills of them. Consider what they excel in and where
you can learn from them
The main reason for choosing them is that they all know me personally as well and are
aware about my strength and weakness. Besides that, I have been working with them long time.
Thus, I am easily comfortable with them to work as my mentor. However, there are certain skills
and knowledge that I can learn from them. They are mentioned as below :
Teacher-
Communication skills -he possesses high and effective communication skills. My teacher knows
how to communicate with students and other staff. Moreover, he is easily able to understand
what student want to say. (Burden, 2017)
Interpersonal skills – he also possesses in depth interpersonal skills such as listening, interaction,
emotional intelligence, etc. in this way he is able to deal with other people. Besides that, by
actively listening he solves problem quickly.
Time management skills- teacher possesses this skill as he was highly disciplined in his duty.
Also, he finished his task in time. For example- a lesson was to be over in 3 days so he did that
by managing his work.
Manager
Decision making- he acquire this skill as he was able to ta effective decision easily. Also, he was
having experience of what decision is beneficial and how it can lead to efficiency. In addition, he
knows what criteria or things has to be considered during decision.

motivate and guide people in right way to accomplish goals (Graf and Edelkraut, 2017).

effective way. He organises things in such a way that there is no need to monitor it. Furthermore,
his management was considered as best in firm.
Friend
Problem solving skills – my friend is highly expert in problem solving skills. He is able to
analyse problem and take effective decision. However, he knows how to break down issue and
what other criteria is followed in it. In this way he is able to solve complex problems easily.
Planning skills- this is skill possessed by my friend. He plans and organise things properly. Also,
schedule is developed by him on basis of planning done. This enable in working according to the
plan developed (Ichikawa and Funakoshi, 2017).
Thus, they all excel in certain skills. So, I think that I can learn a lot of from them. It will
be helpful for me to improve my skills and knowledge. Hence, my teacher can guide me in
enhancing my interpersonal skills. It will help me in communicating and listening to others.
Moreover, I will be able to understand about emotions of people and their feelings. So, I can
easily interact with them. Likewise, from manager I think I can learn skills of management and
leadership. Here I can gain knowledge about leadership and management styles and how to
apply it in different situations; it will help me in to apply it and find out pros and cons of it. Now,
as my friend in excel in problem solving so I can learn him method of it and how to solve a
problem. Along with it, I can improve my area of planning so that I am able to make effective
plans and work it accordingly. Therefore, these all mentors can guide me in different areas with
their experience. It will help me in pursuing my career and in my personal as well as professional
growth and development (Vikaraman, Mansor and Hamzah, 2017)
