SUMMARY
Portfolio can be defined as a record of academic achievements, professional development
and experiences. It is a combination of different types of documents which could be used to
illustrate quality of work and variety in that work so that higher marks could be scored by
individuals in examination. There are various elements which are considered as the part of it.
The documents which are selected for preparing a portfolio are SWOT analysis, reflection,
assignment, C.V. writing, interview preparation, formal and informal emails, referencing,
academic writing, books, TIC, presentation skills, plagiarism etc. All of them are required to be
focused by individuals who are planning to attain career growth because with the help of them
goals for future could be developed (AlHassan and Wood, 2015).
With the help of SWOT, students can be aware of all their strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats. It will be beneficial for them to find effective ways in which all the
negative aspects could be dealt properly. Personal reflection will be advantages for individuals to
share their experience with others so that all the events, ideas and thoughts could be
reconsidered. Assignment is considered as major part of academics because it is required to be
completed by all the individuals who are studying in college or university. All the students who
are planning to get a desired job in future should pay attention towards C.V. writing as it will be
beneficial for them to provide brief information about them to the employer. Interview
preparation is selected to be prepare for the process which will be faced in future while applying
for a job in an organisation.
Formal and informal emails are selected to enhance understanding about them so that
possibility of unprofessional behaviour at workplace in future could be reduced. Referencing is
required to be focused to cite the material which is written in a report allocated by lecturer.
Academic writing is a form of preparing a project which is very important for all the students to
reach the career goals and get higher marks (Babcock and Thonus, 2018). Books are the main
source of information which are used by students to write a report. TIC is a type of personal
development program that can help all the individuals to set career goals and deal with their
weaknesses. Public speaking, eye contact with listeners etc. are considered as presentation skills
which are required for all the individuals so that they can deliver a presentation properly.
Plagiarism is also selected for this portfolio which should be focused while preparing
assignments as it is an academic theft which may affect their marks.

All these twelve documents are selected for preparation of this portfolio for the purpose
of developing knowledge about them and enhancing skills to reach the long term goals. All of
them are very important for students because with the help of them career and personal goals
could be accomplished successfully.
MAIN BODY
1. SWOT analysis
SWOT analysis is a technique which is used by individuals for the purpose of
determining all their strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities. With the help of it they
will be able to formulate effective strategies to deal with all the threats and weaknesses
effectively and form personal development plan. It is beneficial to improve skills which are
required to attain the desired job in future (Dirgeyasa and Hum, 2017). The major advantages of
it are detailed information about weak capabilities, strong skills and possible chances which
could be focused to reach the desired success in future. The ways in which all the negative
situations could be overcame are analysed with the help of it. It can also guide individuals to
make improvements in their existing skills.
2. Reflection
Reflection is the process of sharing personal experience with others and re-experiencing
the events and situations which are faced in past. It is a type of exercise which is used by
individuals to learn more about their fundamental essence and nature. The main elements which
are required to be focused while writing a personal reflection is to use simple and easily
understandable words and language. Person who is sharing experience with others should ignore
jargon so that others can understand easily. The style of writing a reflection changes according to
the audiences. It is a type of opportunity which could be grabbed by individuals to reconsider the
thoughts, events and feelings that were experienced in past from a fresh perspective.

3. Assignment
Assignment is a piece or task of work which is required to be performed by individuals
as a part of their course of study. All the students have to make sure that they use appropriate
sources to fulfil requirements of tasks (Introna, 2016). These are mainly allocated by the
lecturers or tutors in the schools or colleges to the students according to the course which is
selected by them. Main purpose of assignments is to facilitate individuals to recall all the
academic content which was studied by them while attending classes. With the help of it,
students are also evaluated on the basis of accuracy of content which is written by them in their
assignment. For the purpose of scoring higher marks it is vital for individuals to complete it
properly.
4. C.V. Writing
Curriculum Vitae Writing is the process of highlighting all the skills, academics,
qualities, experience and accomplishments so that employer can analyse it and get detailed
information about individuals. With the help of it, people can share their details with the
enterprise in which they are planning to get a job. There are various elements which are required
to be focused by individuals while writing C.V. These are full name, email address, home
address, LinkedIn Profile, Professional title etc. With the help of all of them an attractive C.V.
could be made which can help to get desired job. If a person is fresher then right format is
required to be selected and hobbies with interests are required to be mentioned. For an
experienced person it is very important to write information of previous job so that expected
salary could be acquired (Morton, Storch and Thompson, 2015).
5. Interview preparation
For all the individuals who are planning to get a job in future it is very important to pay
attention towards interview preparation. Before going to an interview it is essential for
individuals to be prepare for it. For this purpose they are required to get detailed information

about the job for which they are planning to apply and the organisation in which they will apply.
There are several general questions such as about strengths and weaknesses, introduction etc.
which could be asked by interviewer therefore it is vital for people to analyse them and be ready
to answer them confidently. They should also prepare for the questions which could be asked by
them about the job from interviewer.
6. Formal and informal emails
For individuals who are willing to attain growth in their career it is very important to
learn about formal and informal email. When there less detailed and specific content is used to
write informative sentences then it is known as formal email. Straight to the point details are
mentioned in them as these are used in formal communication. When descriptive words are used
to write sentences in active voice then it is known as informal email. For individuals it is very
important to be aware of both of them because they may have to use any of them while working
in a corporation. Lack of knowledge about them may affect the efficiency to fulfil requirements
of job in future.
7. Referencing
Referencing is the process of acknowledging ideas and views of other individuals which
are used by students or assignment writers in their projects. While writing a report it is very
important for people to make sure that they provide appropriate references for the content written
by them as it can help to score good marks (Paltridge, Starfield and Tardy, 2016). If the citation
which is made by a student in the project is not accurate of the information is not taken from that
source then it can affect the marks which could be scored by using authentic sources. There are
different types of it which are Harward, APA, Chicago, Oscola etc. All the students are required
to be aware of all of them to complete an assignment properly.

8. Academic writing
Academic writing can be defined as a style which is used by researchers for the purpose
of expressing their views on the topics which are selected by them to conduct a research. It is
mainly used by them to conduct detailed analysis of the specific areas of their expertise so that
their knowledge could be enhanced and they can guide other to get detailed information. Main
purpose of it is to represent specific details so that clear understanding of particular area could be
displayed. In other words, it can be defined as any writing which is required to be conducted for
the purpose of fulfilling requirements of a college.
9. Data interpretation
Data interpretation can be defined as the process of interpreting the gathered information
so that it could be understood that the collected data is accurate or not (Piniel and Csizér, 2015).
With the help of it, individuals will be able to understand the written matter which is being
studied by the writer. In order to attain higher marks in academics it is very important for all the
students to have good skill which could be used by them while interpreting the collected content.
Lack of such qualities may result in lower marks in the examination therefore all the individuals
are recommended to learn the best way in which data could be interpreted.
10. TIC
TIC (Thinking Into Character) can be defined as a personal and professional
development programme which is conducted in colleges or universities so that students can
strengthen their weak skills. Main purpose of TIC is to make sure that the knowledge of
individuals gets enhanced regarding the topics which are studied by them so that they could be
developed professionally. It is a transformational programme which can help students to set

career, education and personal goals. It can also support them in personal development by
identifying all the achievements which could be built upon. With the help of it gap between
intentions and actions of individuals could be filled so that success could be attained.
11. Presentation skills
For all the individuals who are studying in a university or a college it is vital to develop
presentation skills as all of them are required to portrait a positive image in front of lecturers.
For the purpose of delivering a proper and good presentation it is very important for individuals
to make sure that they speak confidently and clearly as it can help other to understand the
information shared by presentor (Zaki and Yunus, 2015). The main thing which should be
focused by a person who is delivering presentation that listeners get convinced that the subject
which will be discussed is important and beneficial for them. Eye contact, effective speaking etc.
are some of the skills which are considered as the part of it.
12. Plagiarism
Plagiarism can be defined as a type of academic theft which can take place in many
forms such as accidental copying, deliberate cheating etc. While working on a project which is
allocated to the students from college or university it is very important for them to make sure that
they do not copy details from any website as it could be considered as plagiarism. In order to
ignore it, it is vital for individuals to acknowledge the ideas or words of other people in the work
as a source so that the consequence of it could be reduced. All the projects which are completed
by students are checked on plagiarism checker to determine the level of copied content therefore
they should ignore it.
