1. Definition of the concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development can be defined as the process which is focused
with the development of skills and abilities of individuals so that the future goals could eb
accomplished. It is mainly focused with attainment of all the short, medium and long-term goals
that can help an individual to reach the target in career and get desired job (Kennedy, 2016).
Personal and professional development plan could be defined as the plan which can help
individuals to analyse the weaknesses and make efforts to overcome them. With the help of it, all
the students can improve the skills and make strategies for attainment of all the long-term goals
and objectives. If the individuals will not be able to develop it properly then it will be very
difficult to make improvement in the qualities. Main aim of it is to understand the importance of
it for the university students so that they can meet their career goals and objectives.
2. Description and discussion of the value of short-term goals and identification of examples
All the future goals which could be accomplished in less than six months are known as
short term goals. These are very important and valuable for the students as it can help them to
develop their skills and abilities. Some of the specific short-term goals are as follows:
Completing projects in the specific time limit.
Attending all the classes and scoring higher marks in tests.
Making connections with class mates and mentors.
3. Description and discussion of the value of medium-term goals and identification of examples
The goals which could be accomplished during the duration of 6 to 12 months are known
as medium-term goals. These are valuable for a person because, with the help of them, a student
can develop employability skills so that career objectives could be fulfilled (Desimone and Pak,
2017). Some of them are as follows:
Developing a plan for future.
Scoring higher marks in the examination.
Leaning a new language.
4. Description and discussion of the value of long-term goals and identification of examples
The goals and objectives which could be accomplished in the duration of one year are
known as long term goals. These are valuable for the students because with the help of such

goals all the students will be able to achieve all their career aspects (Körkkö, Kyrö-Ämmälä and
Turunen, 2016). Some of them are as follows:
Completing the university course successfully.
Finding a suitable job according to career aspects.
Making improvements in personal skills and abilities.
5. Description and discussion of the value of a personal development plan and construction of an
example using the identified goals
Personal development plan is a type of document which is mainly focused with attainment
of all the future goals and making improvements in weak skills. If a personal will not be able to
use its properly then it will be very difficult to meet the career goals and objectives. An example
of personal development plan for the three goals that are discussed above is as follows:

The above PDP shows that for all the students it is very important to make sure that they are
focused with personal and professional development as it can help to meet all the future goals
and improve the abilities to meet all the long term goals. It is also very important for all the
students to make sure that they are formulating long, medium and short-term goals as it can help
to enhance abilities to get the suitable jobs according to the career aspirations. When the students
will formulate the PDP then it will be very easy for them to meet all the future goals and
objectives. It will also facilitate the development of all the skills that are required for attaining
the goals. If the students will not eb able to generate a PDP properly then it will be very difficult
for them to meet the future goals. If they will develop it then it can facilitate them to meet all
their future goals and objectives.
