INTRODUCTION
Personal and Professional development can be determined as a process in which
organisation conducts effective activities for employees to learn new approaches and concepts to
perform their work. It is necessary for the staff members to improve various skills and
capabilities which aid them to achieve corporate and personal objectives (Dowson, 2015). Travel
lodge is a hotel which provides hospitality services to various kinds of consumers in United
Kingdom. The present report describes about self managed leaning approaches for the
individuals. Further, it introduces advantages of self managed learning for the company and staff
members. It evaluates the own critical skills and competencies against corporate standards and
objectives in the hotel. It determines development opportunities to meet out my current and
future defined needs in Travel lodge. In addition to this, it represents the process and activities
which are required to execute the development plan in the organization. It updates personal and
professional development plan on the basis of feedback and evaluation. It states solution of work
based problems in Paramount organization. Furthermore, it analyses the use of effective time
management strategies in the hotel.
TASK 1
1.1. Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning.
There are many approaches of self managed learning which can aid me and my staff to
increase knowledge and information in their respective areas. Some of them are described below
in the points.
Seminars and conferences: In this process, I will attend seminar and conference to
improve my learning level for hotel. This process can assist me in gaining better knowledge from
experts which can aid me to manage operations of Travel Lodge. In addition to this, it can also
help my staff members to raise knowledge level at the workplace (Cottrell, 2013). Furthermore, I
and my employees can ask various queries which can aid to sort out our problems in an
appropriate manner. This way, I as well as my staff can increase myself managed learning in
Travel lodge.
Internet: Internet is also an appropriate medium for self managed learning in the
organization. For this, I and my staff can read online articles on our receptive areas which aid to
improve our knowledge level in the organization (Cottrell, 2010). This process can help my

need as well as requirements of the consumers.
Journals and Books: Mainly, Journal and books are effective method which can assist me and
my employees to increase knowledge in the organisation. In addition to this, it can provide latest

operations by providing effective facilitates to consumers in the present sector.
For this, Books, journal as well as internet are useful for me and staff members which
will aid to improve knowledge level in our respective areas within Hotel (Robbins and
Hunsanker, 2011).
1.2 Representing ways in which lifelong learning development can be encouraged
As an assistant manager, I can also encourage my Staff members by using many ways
like Honey and Mumford model continuous professional development and apprenticeships which
can aid to increase lifelong learning at the workplace of Travel and lodge.

Activist: In this method, employees learn through brain storming, problem solving,
puzzles, role play and group discussion in the hotel. In addition to this, activist method can also
help the staff members to raise self managed learning by using diagrams and chart as well as

background information and by applying theories which aids them to increase their knowledge

Apprenticeships: Apprenticeships can aid employees by taking proper training from
senior managers in the organization. It can support me to enhance various skills professional
capabilities in human resource management which will cater in increasing my lifelong learning
in personal and professional life in Travel lodge (Ismail and Ramly, 2011).

2.1 Current skills and competencies against organisational objectives of Travelodge Hotel
Working as an assistant manager at Travelodge Hotel. I realised that to be successful
manager need to develop own personal skills for achieving the goal and objective of the
company. Hotel needs to focus on the objectives and goals which increase the profitability,
increase productivity, enhance business increase efficiency of work in staff members, achieving
market share. Above mentioned goals, a hotel managers have to develop leadership skills, better
communication, honest, trustworthiness, commitment to excellence. I tried to motivate and
inspire the team for their work so they can do best in work. To achieve all the objectives, I focus
to develop the professional relationship which increase the labour skills and work efficiency. For
improvement in team, I need to assess various training and development program which increase
skills and capabilities in workforce. For providing better environment to the employee, need to
develop four functions area like planning, organising, leading and coordinating (Trede, Macklin
and Bridges, 2012). This four area are actually integrated when I carry day to day activities
relating to the running business. I focus to develop entry level skills in order to raise the power of
decision making, problem solving, organise meeting, process development etc. I try to develop
the computer skills through his the organisation can achieve the high efficiency in work place.
Due to this, I try to reduce the blockage in the process and gain the customer loyalty. Due to this,
the organisation provides better services and make them happy so they visit again in that
Travelodge Hotel.

By analysing weaknesses in me, I found the area which I need to develop in me is entry

strategic process. I need to discuss some basic stages which can assist in the process and make

Stage 1 Evaluation: It is the first step in implementation to go back and evaluate what the plan
is. Review it carefully and then highlights the elements of the plan which are mentioned to
achieve the future needs (McMillan, McConnell and O’Sullivan, 2016).
Stage 2 Vision: The second at most stage is to create vision of the strategic plan. The vision
gives outlines of the elements that need to be completed. Make sure that everyone is known
