INTRODUCTION
Academic skill refers to habits addition to talents which are significant for a student for

analyse values associated with short, medium and long term goals with identification of personal
examples. At last, it includes discussion about personal development plan and construction of an
example on the basis of identified personal goals.

1. Personal and professional development
Concept of personal and professional development is all about managing learning addition
to growth throughout studies and career. It is a process in which an individual and business
concern engages to learn for dealing with challenges and realising desired goals. It develops and
improves certain kinds of skill and knowledge among people and company in best effective
aspects. It allows to become proactive so to bring goals to life along with gives sense of direction
together with self-awareness (Smale and Fowlie, 2015). Personal development enables in
improvising of individual performance so to reach full potential at all career stages. Similarly,
professional development is involving a workforce to become certified in any field or occupation
that is complimentary to exiting position. It assists in differentiating self, gives competitive edge
within crowded employees and standing out to forthcoming employers. Through this, needs of a
person and group members are advanced through examining existing potentials and preparing
along with impelling maintenance of action plan.
In personal and professional life, growth of a person depends on acquisition of diverse
knowledge and set of multiple skills. It is crucial to continue learning addition to development
for remain up to date and working ethically, safely and efficiently (Shimizu, Lee and Uleman,
2017). There are various opportunities such as encouraging self-awareness, using available

resources and encouraging goals to develop personally and professionally. In modern world, the
concept is not restricted to climbing greasy pole and developing self to earn more money, rather
it is related to avoiding stagnation in career addition to future proofing profession.
2. Short term goals along with 3 personal examples
Short term goal can be defined to something which a person has desires to attain in near
future or soon. These are milestone in journey of an individual to reach other goals of life. Short
term goals are valued as they gauge about how far a person have come as well as how long they
are required to travel for reaching end destination in life. Setting short term goal benefits in
boosting motivation as working for small achievements encourages to continue with goals along
with allow to craft momentum for keeping moving forward (van der Scheer, Glas and Visscher,
2017). Without short term goals, a person gets distracted and even spends huge duration not
making any progress. Personal examples of short-term goals are underneath:
Organising a schedule: To achieve good grades in courses, short-term goal is to organise
a schedule so that a student can focus on learning and carrying out extra curriculum
practices.
Improving productivity: Currently, productivity is something which I am struggling
with to switch working. One of the short-term goals is to boost productivity through
being persistent addition to dedicated learner.
Developing personal relationships: In the life of a student, relationship with others have
huge impact. A short term goal is to develop personal relationships with contacts with
classmates, tutors and many more.
3. Medium term goals as well as 3 personal examples
Medium term goals are defined to goals which takes bit longer duration in attainment. all
people have some mid term goals but mostly fail to keep track of them. These are very
motivating and an individual work hard to achieve them. Mid term goals are more valued
because they offer best to worlds as to make enough progress and establish wider many of them
within course of lifetime (Beckingham, 2018). These can be reviewed together with required to
be amended within determined time. It benefits in setting new mid term goals with changes in
priorities and values to focus on attainment. Mentioned below are personal examples of medium-
term goals:

Graduating from university with good grades: It is one of medium-term goals to
complete graduation from university by achieving good grades. Moreover, goal to achieve
good grades enhances work metrics in form of efficiency and quality of studies that is
straightforward goal to get better in studies.
Learning a new language: Language is most critical element of human connection.
Humans are the ones who have mastered cognitive language communication. It is one of

huge time, patience, efforts and proper planning. In the life of a student, long term goals provide

are that it is essential for self-improvement and provides something for striving addition to
remain focused on where a person want to be. Moreover, they shape direction of lives addition to
careers. Long term goals guide to make right decisions, find more depth in relationships together
with provide greater purposes. In other words, they are delayed gratification result of days,
weeks, months and years of emphasis. Various personal examples of long-term goals are as
follows:
Working in a multinational organisation: It is one of personal example of long-term
goal to work at multinational company at high position. A student have long term gaol to
get positioned in well popular company at certain job.
Becoming emotionally intelligent: An emotional intelligent person has potential for
recognising, understanding addition to manage emotions of self and others. They achieve
success in managing difficult situations and express themselves clearly. For a student, it
is long term goal to become emotionally intelligent so to perceive, utilise and manage
emotions at workplace and home.

Building project management skills: Skills of project management are traits addition to
competencies of an individual needs for effectively coordinating tasks or activities in a

project management skills and experience is an example of long-term goal as it having
the skill helps in balancing priorities, tracking progress, oversee resources and manage
time in diverse activities.
5. Personal Development Plan
Concept of personal development plan gives an individual a self-development purpose via
qualification and new skill (Kennedy, Rea and Rea, 2019). It is a record of skills a person has
and skill sets required to develop. It involves creation of action plan as per awareness, reflection
and goal setting with content of career, relationship, self- improvement or education. It saves
time, create supporting culture, improve visibility, improve work life balance, makes a person
successful and promotes positive growth.

personal goals. it is snapshot about where a person stands while conducting assessment which

better future. Short term goals of a student are organising a schedule, improving productivity and
