#Question 4
It is essential to prioritise competing demands to achieve personal, team and organizational
goals and objectives. Provide an overview of a typical day listing a minimum of seven (7) goals you
need to accomplish, both at work and personally. Using the priority matrix model, show how you
organise each goal according to urgency and importance, as well as your strategy for completing
each.
Answer
Prioritizing my competitive demands to meet individual, team, and company objectives is
important for every professional interested in success. My goals are always many but I have to prioritize
them according to necessity and order so as to accomplish my short, medium, and long term plans.
Priority matrix is a tool used to formulate the order of activities according to their urgency and
importance. With the use of priority matrix, I am able to categorize tasks into one of the following
categories - Urgent & Not Important, Urgent & Important, Not Urgent & Not Important and Not Urgent
& Important. On a normal day for instance, there are a set of personal and work goals that I have to
fulfil. Driving my son to school, checking and replying to mails, checking the progress of ongoing
projects, and meeting new clients are duties I list as urgent and important in my priority matrix because
they are pertinent to personal and organizational development. Meeting company executives and project
leaders are activities I list as Not Urgent & Important because, I am a field based project manager who
visits the field to see work is done. Body fitness is my dream, and I always visit the gym in the morning
to keep myself fit and thus body fitness is an urgent and important activity in my priority matrix. I keep
an activity schedule to ensure that I achieve all the goals set daily.
