INTRODUCTION
Self improvisation is important as it helps in enhancement of skills and talents in order to
do all activities in most efficient manner. Advancement is not only associated with development
of virtues but also it is linked with those abilities which help in enhancement of professional
capabilities and specialisation. Hilton Hotel is one among leading lodges and is operating its
business activities in United Kingdom (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera, 2014). This project is based
upon development of skills of staff members of hotel on personal and professional level both.
Present assignment comprises several approaches of self learning to develop skills and this
enhancement of talent can be done through attending seminars, conferences and many more.
This type of activity is advantageous for both person as well as company because it allows an
individual to monitor his skills and then should take some required corrective actions then this
assessment will strengthen strengths and will further improvise opportunities of carrier
development.
TASK 1
1.1 Approaches to self-managed learning
By taking assistance of self managed learning program enables a person to grow their
skills and talents. Monitoring is a best method of identifying whether self learning is needed right
now or not. This action helps in conducting all business operations in limited duration. Below are
some methods which help a person in self learning:
Seminars & Conferences: This approach serves a level by which a human being can
easily capture skills and virtues from others. In addition, personnel are showcasing their abilities
in from of other persons and consequently hotel staff members can get confidence and after this
activity employees never hesitate while meeting with others (Campbell, Jardine and McGlynn,
2016). When a person is working in a office then transfer is a god option to enhance confidence
and learning of various skills.
Social Network: today's era is an internet world and here social media plays a vital role
in enlargement of aptitude of a person on professional level. Self-learning is necessary because it
helps an individual in meeting with other people in adequate manner. These social networking
sites are a macro medium of establishing connection with those who are living in distinct regions
and when a human being talks many persons then he will be able in gaining extra master ship
and specialisation from other.

Internet: It is a widest method of meeting people and this option provides various online
sites where a person can take advices of self-learning assessment. Main methods of this tool are
videos, online classes, post of others etc.
So, it is understood that if people always manage their aptitude and talents then
individuals can develop their carrier opportunities and reputation at personal and professional
level and employee of Hilton hotel will be able in doing their task in innovative manner and
issues would be resolve in effective manner.
1.2 Ways in which lifelong learning in PPD context
It is a nature of every person that he wants growth in personal and professional life both
and this desires promotes management of self enhancement programs in order to meet all criteria
at workplace. Staff member of Hilton hotels need to meet many clients and customers and
because of these employees have to assess their personal skill whether workers are doing their
task efficiently (Cooke, 2012). To done all task very properly and clearly then manager has to
keep friendly bond with his staff members. There are multiple ways, which promotes self-
learning features among employees:
Self-directed Learning: to organise all things in a systemise manner, human being need
to take some initiatives. Consequently, they are liable for those works, which are done by them.
There are certain which arise many time at workplace while accomplishment of work and these
all conditions should be analyse by all workers in order to evaluate their own capacities.
Continuing Professional Development: All persons have to posses those skills and
specialisations which is necessary to complete their professional task in adequate manner for
attaining accurate results and this action brings lots of experiences which is helpful in problem
solving attitude.
Recognition of Prior Learner: This method is related to examination of organisation’s
activities in appropriate manner (Cottrell, 2015). Best use of this method is that it aids more
knowledge in employees.
Healthy Competition: This is a very good option in self-learning process. By taking help

bringing some developments and advantages in them and this talent aids efficiency in team
working. This function is helpful in learning co-operation and adjustments. Consequently,
clashes will get removed because of different thoughts and ideas (Dixon and et. al., 2014). A
human being should posses an ability to speak in front of others and for this stated purpose
individual should give presentations. This action will develop some confidence in people. To get
rid out of hesitation problem, public speaking should be learned by person.
Benefit to Corporation:
If a venture has skilled pool of talented people then it will aid growth and success in
organisation. It is required from every person that he should work in ethical way. There are so
many employees in corporation who help association in attaining all targets in limited period of
time. If human is able in learning from colleagues then manager is able in taking proper
judgements for welfare of association. Here with this, if all workers are doing their work in
effective manner then all issues could get resolve in workplace.

2.1 Own current skills and competencies
There are various skills and competencies which are crucial to be present in order to work
in an organisation. As I am currently working as a manager in Hilton Hotel and following are the
skills that I acquire:
Communication skills: These skills are crucial to be present as to communicate and
interact effectively with team members and customers. Sometimes, knowing more than one
language is necessary to communicate with a customer who speaks different languages. As I am

working in Hilton, it is necessary for me to know many languages and I know German, French,
English, and Spanish. This helps in increasing my proficiency and efficiency and helps me to
serve customers in better manner. Fluency also enables better communication with superiors and
colleges.
Leadership style: It is a valuable asset which differentiates from other employees
working in same organisation. As a manager of a reputed firm, I have great leadership qualities
which help me to lead my staff in proper manner (Forte and Flores, 2014). I try to implement
democratic leadership style which allows employees to participate in various management
activities like decision making process, organising some activities, etc. This increases their
confidence level and is motivated to perform different types of tasks. My aim is to serve my
company with best that I can do for it and provide proper guidance to my employees for better
future.
Problem solving ability: This is another important skill which should be present in a
manager. As a manager, I have to deal with many issues and problems on daily basis and I am
efficient in handling any type of disputes and conflicts.
Team working skills: As a manager, I have the ability to work in a team and also allow
employees to work with me. I know the importance of team work and also encourage staff to
work in a team, this maximise profits as well as efficiency of company.
Below is the comparison between my skills with professional skills, it contains a scale
which has some ranking and that is from 1 (Strong) to 5 (Weak):

It is never too late to learn something new or to improve weaknesses. It is more important
to know that nobody is perfect and requires continuous efforts and improvement in order to
become perfect (Gamrat and et. al., 2014). Outside world is full of uncertainties and surprises;
anyone can get the chance to become something in life. As a manager working for Hilton, it is a
great opportunity for me to work for such reputed company. It requires different and unique
types of skills in order to work proficiently.

As a manager, I have to focus mainly on two things that are: current needs and future
needs. This will help me in shaping my career and also provides me with appropriate directions:
Current needs: This includes those skills which are required by me to fulfil current job
requirements. As I am the manager of Hilton Hotel, various skills and knowledge which are
required to fulfil my present responsibilities, come under current needs (Hadar and Brody, 2013).
This will decide whether I am able to perform my duties efficiently or I require training and
development in some areas. As I am proficient in various responsibilities like, problem solving
techniques, leadership qualities, communication skills, etc. This helps me to work smoothly in
the organisation. As I am not efficient in handling situation in panic conditions, in that case, I can
learn how to manage and improve my weaknesses and overcome it as soon as possible.
Future needs: These are those needs which are required to perform a job in future. To
achieve success in future, it is necessary to improve my skills and talents with the time (Trede,
Macklin and Bridges, 2012). First, I have to know, what skills are will be needed and according
to start I can prepare myself for future.
