INTRODUCTION
Learning is gaining knowledge through experience, study or practice. All people have
the ability to learn but they have different styles to learn such as visual (a person who use the
visual learning style will use images, pictures, colours etc., this person will have a good dress
sense and will love to draw, scribbling etc.), auditory (an auditory learning style person will learn
by listening, discussions and through verbal lectures), read-write ( learners who use this style
will learn by reading and writing, they prefer to receive the information in writing) and
kinaesthetic (this type of learners need to move around and they learn easy by doing or
experiencing something), which are the primary learning styles.
Task 1
1.1
The only way one individual can identify the right method of learning is by trying and
experimenting what it rights for him/her. I have experimented different learning styles, which
would suit me better such as: studying theory in different places and sets of minds. I have come
to the conclusion when studying theory I understand and receive more when I am sitting down at
a table with no distractions such as music or snacks however I receive more when in the class
room and someone is explained the theory. When it comes to the work place I will always be
able to learn something better if it is shown to be rather than just explained. Visual learning is
more affective for me. As for most of the individuals, the ore you do something the better you
get at it therefore I would say my learning and development method would be through practice.
There are different methods of learning and each person is different. Some main learning styles
which individuals use are the following:
Visual learning
Verbal learning
Active learning
Reflective learning
Visual learning is for people who prefer to look for visual representation of information such as
pictures, graphs and diagrams.

Verbal learning is for individuals who prefer to hear or to read the information. These individuals
will mainly look for explanations with words.
Active learning is learners who prefer group work. People who use this method are usually active
learners who prefer physical experiments and learn by trying.
Reflective learning is not always the best method but some individuals find it a better way of
learning when they figure out problems and solutions by themselves.
1.2
There are many ways that I had followed for the enhancement of learning in my personal and
professional life. For the increasing motivation towards learning I have developed several
objectives and goals that I have to achieve in a specific period. Research has defined that to
increase the learning an individual has to accept and face challenges which provide experience
and develops motivation to achieve the objectives (). At initial stage, I have accomplished
activities through which has provided a clear understanding about factors that should encourage
the life long learning such as:
SWOT Analysis: In order to understand my present situation, I have analysed the these factors
which reflects my personality.
Strength: These are considered as capabilities of an individual that helps and motivates an
individual to increase learning. In this I have identified some ability and skills that reflects my
personality and differentiate me from other such as:
Excellent communication skills: Most important skill which I had developed through
continuous participation in various activities in my academic and professional career like
seminar, presentation, attending meetings, team work and leadership etc. through
effective communication I had analysed the experience of different people and leaders
which has increased my knowledge and motivation towards learning.
Strong analytical skills: These skills will help me to understand the critical concept and
provided ability to face challenges in professional life.
Weaknesses: Apart from strengths I had also identified some weaknesses that I have to remove
in order to encourage life long learning.

Weak leadership skills: From the self analysis I had considered that at the time of team work, I
have faced difficulties in managing the team members and not able to provide suggestions to
them for resolving the problems in task. All members were disappointed from work but in order
to improve the skills I had set target to take guidance of my superiors and also read books of
professional leader. However, this will provide motivation and helps in improving the
performance through continuous learning.
Weak time management skills: In professional life, I have faced some difficulties at the time of
planning and managing work in the organization which I had considered most significant to be
removed. Through continuous learning and time management I will remove this issue and
develop capabilities which helps in develop personality.
Opportunities: In this, I have identified various possibilities which helps in development
personal life as well as professional life.
Growth in organization: Continuous and self managed learning will provide an
opportunity to accomplish the personal objectives and helps in achieving key position in
company.
Career development: Learning of individual could be encouraged through career
planning and development. It increases motivation towards analysing new things and
information which can be achieved through learning.
Threats: There some threats which I had identified and to be resolved to increase learning and
development in personal as well as professional life.
Threats of superiors: With proper communication with the superior I will remove this
issue and gain experience from there work.
Threat of failure: By developing effective leadership skills, I will resolve the problem of
failure and develop a positive image among the superiors.
Therefore, the self analysis has determined that personal and professional development of an
individual is possible through analysing the situation and adopting self managed process of
learning.

Self-managed learning makes people take a different approach to learning in long term. In terms
of learning, many people strive to achieve a short-term goal such as passing an exam; only a few
individuals strive for long-term learning and achievement. The disadvantage of learning for a

Being a store manager assistant comes with many responsibilities and there is a lot of work
involving the employees. I am a very good listener and when it comes to completing tasks I am a
hand-on person however being a assistant store manager involves putting your own perspective
on issues and coming up with solutions on the spot. This can be very terrifying at first because
there are employees, which are replaying on you. There must be a very good communication at
all times between the manager assistant and the employees and a good understanding of each
employee’s skills. By knowing the employees well I then would be able to offer extra training
for them, if necessary, to achieve the level that is expected of customer service. Being able to
guide the employees in their sections and give out the tasks without coming across too dictatorial
is a skill a manager assistant must have in order to keep a good relationship with the employees.
Another element from working in retail would be dealing with all kind of individuals and
customer service. There will always be problems that customers will expect to be fixed by the
manager assistant or the manager. In this case if the supervisor has to solve the problems they
must be very efficient. For example if a customer comes to the supervisor complaining about the
service received, the supervisor must take actions and make sure the customer leaves the store
happy. short-term goal is that the learning is limited especially in the world we live now, with
technology changes and other constant changes.
Individuals must take on their responsibilities and engage in a self-managed learning process for
themselves in order to upgrade themselves constantly. There are many strategies to learning and
people go through different stages of learning before they find their own. Dependent learners are
learners whom are expecting others to teach them everything. This method of learning can be
very inefficient, as the learners usually do not try to achieve certain things by themselves. One
advantage I could extract from this method would be the ability to ask questions. It is very
important one is confident to ask questions when unsure. Counter dependent is a stage of
learning that I find very inefficient, however most of the individuals go through. This style of
learning is very defensive which makes people reject new ideas and information. Independent
learners are the learners who are ready to do it themselves and learn for them. This approach to
learning is a very good approach as learners are prepared to learn, seek for information and are
striving for success. The excess of using this method can sometimes make individuals become
very self-cantered that is why it’s best for this approach to be balanced out with the
interdependence approach. The interdependence approach is about learning with others, helping

others and working in teams. This approach again, is very useful and successful as long as it is
balanced out with the independent approach.
One the of the major benefit of self managed learning for individual is that it helps in
achievement short term and long term goal they have developed in personal and professional life.
It also helps an individual to identify its strengths and opportunities which helps him in
development of career and personality. It increases possibilities for an individual to improve his
skills and potentials in order achieve key positions within firm. In this scenario, through self
managed learning I will get benefit in improving my skills, achieve the potential manage work
and team member through effective leadership.
Different organisations are searching for different individuals. Some organisations will look for
people who do well working in teams and some organisations will look for independent people
to complete task on time. As an individual, it is important to have both learning approaches in
order to be the best candidate. In most of the organisations at some point teamwork will be
required as well as doing something independently. I recommend to any individual to try to
master both independent and interdependence approaches to learning as a person who is
independent and confident will find it easier to be open in a group and contribute. By providing
self managed learning an organization will get benefits of achieving qualified employees at key
positions on the job. It will achieve a potential and effective personnel on the job which aims at
managing people in the organization and achievement of common goal. In this context, I had
achieved a continuous growth in organization as they provide an opportunity for self
development and organize various training programs to increase the learning. Through
performance appraisal they will analyse the needs of individuals and provide equal opportunity
to achieve growth in personal life.

2.2 Identification of own development needs and task for achievement.
It involves analysis of needs of self development which is essential for continuous rise in
potential and effective development of personal and professional life. It is significant for
individual to achieve success in organization and requires potential to increase opportunities. For
personal development I have done an analysis of needs that are to be accomplished within the
organization. Through self analysis I have identified that there are two things which I have to
change or improve through continuous learning.

An experience that changed my view towards life, of me and the things that I want to do,
it was a bad experience. I was in a swimming pool with a girl who didn’t know how to swim so I
was trying to help her and teach her to swim. Suddenly she got scared and started jumping on my
back, the 3rd time when she pushed me in the water I just let her to do that because I had no force
any more to fight with her. For few seconds, I just saw myself dead in that swimming pool, after
that image in my mind, I don’t know from where I had the power to come out and hit her, save
myself and save her after that. I do enjoy and appreciate life more ever before, I try more now to
get the best of my life and to do everything what makes me happy.

I learn very easy by listening so my learning style is aural, but I learn easy by reading and
writing as well, according with VARK Questioner. It is a key point for me to attend my class as I
process information more successfully when someone is explaining it to me directly. Going to
the library is an efficient way to get me concentrated on the work and helps me finish it
successfully on time. The learning environment in the library is very relaxed and focused on
studying which gets me in the right set of mind. I use internet searching when studying to help
me have a better understanding on the topics I’m studying and the words I’m using. I’m also
