INTRODUCTION
Engineering includes the use of scientific principles that contributes in effective
designing along with the formulation of machines and structures. Technology is another
important aspect which contributes in improvement of the current specifications of available
product. Integration of both the concepts results into development of some unique product which
has additional features and more reliable in nature from the earlier one. The organisation
considered for completion of this report is known as Ferguson Electronics. It is electronics
company and deals in many different kind of products such as television, radio, setup boxes etc.
The project chosen for its development along with improvement in overall reliability is
Television. The main aim of this report is about the use of advance technology of 8K in respect
to the development of standards in Ferguson Televisions (Bland, Kusano and Johri, 2016).
This report covers about aspects which are must to have for successful project manager,
issues that have impact over management of project and identification of factors that contribute
towards the success of project along with the challenges faced. Also, covers the deliverance of
project plan and the contingencies that might have impact over meeting requirements, use of
effective motivational techniques for the performance of task and application of more than one
leadership and communication style for successful implementation of project. In last, covers the
performance of project leader in socially responsible manner and ascertainment of the
requirement to be update in nature of new technological developments and discoveries.
TASK 1
1. Requirement to be successful project manager and the factors that have impact over successful
management of project
The current project is about bring improvement in reliability of television of Ferguson
through use of advance technology of 8K resolution. Application of this technology help to
improve the image or display resolution of television which provides more quality and clear
vision to consumers (Cerezo-Narvaez, Otero-Mateo and Pastor-Fernandez, 2017) .
Successful project manager
The obligation of the successful deliverance of project is upon project manager. The
different determinants which are needed to have to become successful manager are mentioned
below:

Characteristics: A good project manager must have the characteristics like good planner,
risk taker, visionary and proper management. All these aspects help from the very beginning
stage of project. Planning help to build outline, visionary in nature help to create vision on the
basis of which objectives are framed, risk taking ability help to pursue the vision and objectives
and proper management help in accomplishment of all in specified period of time.
Skills: A good project manager must have the skills related to communication,
leadership, time management and conflict resolution. From the very initial stage these uses by
project manager. Communication help to diver the tasks, leadership help to persuade the
behaviour, time management help to accomplish interrelated tasks with the project on time and
conflict resolution help to bring harmony in all the team member that contributes towards the
success of overall project.
Factors that have impact over successful management of project
Lack in availability of technical personnels: Use of 8K includes the technology which
allows the each pixel to be indistinguishable to human eye. At present, Ferguson doesn't have
that much skilled personnel in their project teams. So, lack in personnel increases the time period
of project completion along with creates doubt over its success (Clevenger and et. al., 2017) .
Lack of budget: 8K is advance technology that requires the use of high amount of funds.
So, allocation of sufficient amount of fund in continuation of the production of 4K is difficult
which impacts over the completion time period of project along with quality.
2. Identification of the issues and factors that contributes in the success of project
Lots of factors that contributes in the success of the project about the implementation of
8K technology in Ferguson televisions. Some of these are mentioned below along with proper
description:
Customers high technological demand: In today's environment, customers are more
fascinate towards the use of new and advanced technology which provides more soothing
experience. So, the use of 8K resolution technology help to improve the vision of consumers
through bring indistinguishment in each pixel. The success can be ascertained by the use of this
technology but there are many other big competitors that have same technology to provide their
television at low cost like Samsung and LG (Rottmann, Sacks and Reeve, 2015).
Availability of digitally equipped resourcing team: The function of HR team with the
use of digital equipments able to hire the personnels which are more technological sound that

ultimately help in implementation of 8K resolution technology. The success can be ascertained
because this will help to resolve the issue of lack of competent personnel in team. The negative
point that associate with the same is about increment in overall cost that diminish the aim of
earning high amount of profit through the application of this project.
3. Identification of the challenge faces during the period of time of project implementation in
order to meet the requirements and recommendations to improve the same
In process of the project performance number of challenges are faced related to its
successful management. The different number of challenges that are ascertained in process of
successful management of project are mentioned and defined below:
Support of personnels: One of the biggest challenge faces in respect to the performance
of project is about lack of support of the personnels and employees in functioning of the project.
This challenge is ascertained into two different dimensions i.e. lack of knowledge in respect to
the technology among the personnels and unsupportive behaviour of employees in performance
of normal tasks. The negative impact of both these dimensions have direct over the project which
hinders the capacity of an organisation in completion of project on time and within the
predetermined budget (Coyne, 2015) .
Lack of funds: Another challenge face in respect to the management of project is about
lack in the amount of funds. This arises due to the low capacity in allocation and assortment of
funds in effective manner in between the present and future production activities. To carry on the
production of current 4K televisions hinders the fund requirement of future project of 8K
resolution televisions. The direct impact is ascertained over completion time of project along
with that overall predetermined quality standards are also not able to accomplish.
Recommendations to overcome challenges
In respect to overcome the two above defined challenges, project manager and
organisation is needed to focus over the hiring of new technical personnels which are competent
in nature to carry on the project activities with the use of advanced technology. Also, the
application and use of motivational and reward approaches help to get the support of existing
employees in performance of functions or tasks on time (Vasquez-Bernal and Cortes-Aldana,
2015).
The issue of fund can be resolved through effective allocation and identification of the
new sources of fund. This will provides an opportunity to carry on the future projects with the

same pace as they decided without creating any hindrance on the path of current production
activities.
TASK 2
1. Formulation of project delivery plan by use of engineering management tools
For formulation of project delivery plan, PLC is uses by the project manager of Ferguson
(Project life cycle. 2019). The different phases of this cycle and their contribution in successful
delivery of project is understood from the points defined below:
Initiation phase: The project of formulating 8K resolution television is started on
January1, 2020. The total time period requires in completion of project and formulation of 100
units requires the time period of 4 months.
Planning phase: On strategic planning focus over the use of new and advance
technology that improves the display of television. The technology uses in this respect is 8K
resolution. Also, requires the formulation of separate team that have high tech technology
friendly personnels. Implementation planning includes the integration of both in successful
production of new 8K televisions.
Execution phase: Production process starts at this stage. Team of 20 personnels working
on the production of 100 units of televisions integrated with high tech display technology. After
each step in production process same is checked by project manager to ensure optimum quality.
Termination phase: 100 units of Ferguson television production is completed on 1April,
2020.
2. Identification of the contingencies that have effect over accomplishment of the requirements
while using delivery plan
The number of aspects which can be arose as contingencies while following the different
phases of Project life cycle and hinder the overall capacity to accomplish project on time. Some
of these are mentioned below:
Lack or incapacity of fund: This can be the one contingency that have direct impact
over delivering capacity of PLC. This is so because lack in fund not allows proper function of
execution phase. But this is not permanent in nature and ascertainment of money from external
sources help to complete the project on time (de la Borbolla, Chicoskie and Tinnell, 2017) .

Lack of personnels: This also impacts project completion or PLC functioning on
different stages planning and execution. The nature of this is also not permanent because
presence of digitally equipped HR team help to hire personnels and completion of project on
time.
TASK 3
1. Use of effective motivation techniques to persuade the behaviour of staff and negotiation with
customer deliverable priorities
Lots of technical and human resource issues are noticed that creates the tension in
performance of functions appropriately. This will also results into creation of issues among the
team members or with the customers too. The aspect which help to resolve overall situation
includes the use of leadership styles and communication ways. Effective application of these
provides an opportunity to build effective team that have ability to perform well in all situations.
On the other hand the use of effective communication tools from the side of project manager
help to handle the customer queries and demands. The different activities which are required to
do by the project manager in effective management of the situations are mentioned below:
Staff or employees: The issue arose from their side is about unsupportive behaviour
towards the performance of tasks. The major cause behind such resistance is about the
production of new technology televisions that requires more precision and concentration towards
work that have negative impact over their comfort zone. Application of democratic style of
leadership has huge contribution in increment of their motivation as allows to perform in
accordance to their own ways. Also, allowance to share ideas motivates to build effective bond
with other that creates the interest of staff members in successful performance of their individual
tasks (Howell and et. al., 2018) .
Customers: The main aim of customers is about attainment of project results on time.
The presence of technical and human resource issue impacts the overall behaviour of customers
towards organisational capacity. Use of direct communication approach help to build connection
with customers along with ascertaining their trust. This will provides an opportunity to persuade
the behaviour of customers towards the services of organisation.

2. Use of effective leadership styles and communication skills in the implementation period of
project and use of effective coaching and mentoring techniques
In the process of the application of project different number of leadership styles and
communication skills are used for effective performance along with the completion of project on
time. Leadership styles and communication skills which are used are mentioned below:
Leadership Styles
 Democratic leadership style: This style of leadership is used to motivate the staff of
organisation and their performance beyond of their comfort zones. Application of this
style help the employees in selection of their own ways for completion of work along
with sharing of ideas with each other. This will motivates and improves the performance
of all staff members (Lee and Smith, 2018).
 Situational leadership style: The use of this leadership style is must in accordance to the
nature of project. Use of advanced technology in formulation of new product always
requires change in approach in accordance to the condition. So, this leadership style
provide flexibility to project manager in performance of its functions.
Communication skills
 Listening: The use of this skill help to attain the trust of employees as this will allow
them to share their thoughts. Also, another advantage ascertained from this is about
ascertainment of the new ideas which contributes in completion of project on time.
 Clear disbursement of information: The approach used in communication of
information related to project is clear in nature which includes the use of formal and
informal meetings. This not help to disburse information in fast manner but also removes
the factor of biasness.
The one who is poor in performance identified from the application of communication
skill is technical personnel. This person requires coaching. The method uses to coach includes
simulation and technological guidance. Simulation help to handle the real situation but not
effective in nature to improve intelligence, Technological guidance help to improve knowledge
but does not improves application (Li and Chen, 2015).

Disbursement of information about findings to customer related to project is important in
nature. This will help the customer to assure that organisation is on the way to success in the

development of the new product. Also, help in estimation of the time of period that requires in
effective completion of the overall project.
Here, main role is played by the method which adopts by the organisation or project
manager in communication of the information related to their findings to customer. The method
or channel uses by project manager is about hiring of PR agency. Outline of the different steps
from which project manager goes in process of presentation of information is mentioned below:
Hiring of PR agency: This includes the selection of PR agency on the basis of
requirement. The work of this agency is about disbursement of information to public about their
progress and achievement. Hired by the project manager of Ferguson to disburse information
about progress in new project of 8K resolution television (Miloradova and Ishkov, 2015) .
Disbursement of information to agency: Project manager has the duty to provide
information to agency on regular basis. Here, information is provides in relation to the new
project about formulation of 8K resolution television. At present, information disbursed that half
work is completed along with the testing of technology.
Holding of public meetings in front of media: Last step, where work performs related
to transfer of information. Public meeting is held in front of all the media personnels. Provides
information in respect to the progress in project about completion of 50% work along with the
testing of technology.
TASK 4
1. Determination of the ethical behaviour of leader towards social, cultural, economic and
environmental issues and summarisation of engineering professional ethical standards
Socially responsible in nature means that consideration of approaches and production of
product which has least or no impact over the the environment. It is the duty of the project
manager to behave ethically and use the standard procedures which are positive in nature from
the context of society, culture, economy and environment (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017).
The current project of Ferguson about the development of new television having the
technology of 8K resolution is socially responsible in nature. This is ascertained in the manner
that the technology used to present the picture in television provides soothing experience to users
also does not have negative impact over their eyes because each pixel has their own light which
not provides strain. The friendliness of technology against the environment is ascertained from

the fact that the rays which comes out of screen are 20 times lesser from their earlier productions
of television which doesn't have impact over Ozone depletion.
Engineering profession ethical standards and pattern of behaviour
Adherence of these standards and pattern of behaviour allows automatically to the project
manner to be socially responsible in nature. Some of these are defined below:
 The different number of ethical aspects which are requires to adopt and adhere by the
engineers while performing their work includes honesty, fairness, equity and impartiality.
All these guides the performance of engineer in positive direct and creates the sense of
responsibility that their action has direct impact over the life of others. So, adherence of
all these aspect not only help in completion of work but contributes to ascertain the
position of socially responsible in nature (Pohl, 2016).
 Common behaviour of adopting same communication approaches by an engineer
provides flexibility in performance of their functions and accomplishment of tasks in
socially responsible manner.
2. Importance of active ip and updation with the engineering professions new development and
discoveries and the ways through which an engineer engage in continuing professional
development
Lots of new aspects are adding up on the day to day basis. It is most important for an
engineers update themselves on continuous basis to stand in market and hold their job.
All the organisations whether belong from any industry requires to adopt the new
technologies and change the old ones to sustain in market along with the improvement of
profitability. This will creates the pressure upon the existing engineers of the organisation to
made changes in organisational processes and implement the new one which is more advanced in
nature. So, ascertained from the above analysis that if engineers are unable to made changes then
they have to loose their jobs because not any organisation wants to bear loss in market and loose
their position (Rendon and Snider, 2019).
From the completion of the above project and the overall analysis done above ascertained
that two techniques are main which help the engineers to engage themselves in continuous
professional development process includes simulation and technological guidance. Simulation
help in attainment of experience to handle actual and real situation pressure and technological
guidance provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge on specific situations. Effective

adherence of these two techniques always help an engineer in continuing development of their
professional career (Rogers, Chong and Preece, 2015).
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the above report that project manager plays the main role in
successful completion of project. The main characteristics and skills requires to have good
manager includes honesty, integrity, leadership and communication. Presence of factor like
demand of new technological products contributed towards the success of the new project of
Ferguson about development of 8K resolution television. Lots of challenges are faced in process
of success like lack of fund and human resources but all these resolved with the help of effective
planning. Application of different leadership styles and communication also help in successful
deliverance of project. Also, ascertained that overall project is socially responsible in nature
because ethical standards of engineering and patter of behaviours are followed.
