Discussion of the dilemma of John:
According to Yoder and Denhardt (2019) maintaining ethics in the workplace is the
matter of utmost importance as it supports the management of an organization to manage the
organization in an effective manner. As per the case study, John is the data base programmer of
an organization and trying his level best in order to frame a large statistical program. It is true
that the organization, in which John is working, encourages the staffs to prepare their own work
efficiently. However, John is facing significant issue in the way of framing the program. He finds
himself stuck in the programing which according to him is out of his expertise. He doesn’t even
know the way of solving the problems. In addition to that, he has also struck in between his
professional ethics and his career goal. This is the dilemma, faced by John in the way of
completing the programing.
Recommendation of what actions John should have taken:
This ethics shows that the staffs of an organization should take own responsibility in
terms of promoting professional development. Thus, it is recommended for John to take the
initiative in order to build his own skills in order to complete the programing properly. At the
same time, it is suggested for John to take proper care in terms of strengthening his competencies
for the sake of completing the programming and keep the stakeholders happy and satisfied.
According to ACS Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, professional development
of the staffs is very much needed in order to accomplish organizational goal (Acs.org.au. 2019).
The Chris MacDonald's methodology is one of the major frameworks, which John can follow in
order to resolve the dilemma which he is facing. Cullinane et al. (2019) stated that as per this

framework, initially John should recognize the morally important decision. As the program is the
matter of utmost importance of the organization, John should take proper care in order to
complete the program. The next step according to Chris MacDonald's methodology is to explore
the interested parties. John should figure out the clients and understand their values.
Recognizing the moral dimension is the first step, which John should follow in terms of
mitigating his ethical dilemma. As John is facing issues in the way of completing a longer
project, he should report the manager regarding the issue (Hazelwood et al. 2019).
According to the ACS Code of ethics and professional conduct, Primacy of the Public
Interest is the initial step towards resolving the professional dilemma. John should explore the
interested parties behind the programming. Shared value is one of the major steps towards
mitigating the professional ethics in the workplace. It is imperative for John to explore the
stakeholders who might be harmed if he fails to complete the programming. Professional
Development is another major code of ACS (Nudelman and English 2019). As John feels that
he is lacking the necessary skill to complete the large programming, he should state the fact to
the management regarding the issue and take necessary action in terms of improving his skills in
order to complete the programming.
Honesty is another vital component of the codes of professional ethics. It is imperative
for John to assess both financial and physical benefit of the programing. is another vital
framework, which shows that the employees like John should avoid misinterpreting his skills and
knowledge while working on the larger project. Competence is another vital framework, which
shows that the employees like John should avoid misinterpreting his skills and knowledge while
working on the larger project. Thus, it is to say that, John should state the issue to his manager. It

is the moral decision, which can pave the way for him to mitigate the dilemma by gathering
attention from the management.
