Skills and competencies required by the employer
The Hotel Supervisor has the biggest job role as the supervisor has to supervise to other people
for the proper management and functioning in the hotel. So there are some skills and
competencies which is required by the employer which is discussed below in context with
Portavadie-
Good communication- The hotel supervisor must be having the skill of communicating with the
other staff of the hotel effectively. The skill of having good communication is very important
because they have to supervise the other staff members as how to deal with the guests and what
sought of behaviour must be there with the staff to welcome the guest and how they have to
manage the multiple guests(Barry, 2020). Portavadie hotel employer tries first to see such skill
and ability of the supervisor with the communication.
Operational knowledge- The employer also expects that the supervisor must be having
the knowledge of operational activities which includes the Human resources, accounting
and cost control. This is because without having such knowledge the person would not be
considered as capable. Portavadie also expects that the supervisor must be having such
knowledge to make the proper manager.
Leadership- The hotel supervisor must be having the competency of leading the other
people in the hotel. It is because the other staff members who are below the supervisor
must be expecting the guidance and motivation of the supervisor and if the supervisor
lacks in this then there will be no progress.
Assessing current abilities, skills and competencies
The current abilities, skills and competency which I own has been discussed below-
Critical Thinking- I acquire the ability of thinking critically which is helpful in making
the decisions of the and solve the issues which can be faced by the hotel at any
time(Bannister, 2018). This skill of mine will also be useful in making and developing
the new idea and innovation in the Portavadie hotel which will help in bringing more
people to visit the hotel.

completed and also the guest who have come in the hotel also gets satisfied regarding the
timely management of the work.
Financial management- This skill is generally related with the knowledge which is in
relation with the finance which every business has to undertake. I have the knowledge of

data of the hotel(Godwin, Cribbs and Kayumova, 2020). To become a hotel supervisor it
is important that the person must be having the knowledge of finance so that at any time
they can read and understand the position of the hotel.

Behavioural approach- This approach means that the learning of the person is
developed with the interaction with the environment which is also known as conditioning
(Wayman, 2018) . When the person interacts with different then they automatically learn
many things as to how to deal with the situation and how to act in that particular
situation. In the hotel also, the hotel supervisor will learn many things when they will
have to face different situation and with which they will gain knowledge.

Kolb’s Learning Cycle-
Kolb’s have defined the learning of the individual into four stages for which the individual has to
pass to learn effectively which is discussed below-
Concrete experience- In this stage the person is new in learning the different thing and
the individual is basically involved in a task which helps to learn about the thing. The
major way by which the individual can acquire learning is the mode of getting involved
in the work(Bennett and Smith, 2018). For the hotel supervisor it will be important to
engage in the work and learn from the work.
Reflective observation- In this stage the main task is to communicate with other
regarding the things which have been learned in the first stage. This involves to ask the
questions and discuses the things as they will also provide some information. This stage
determines that the person by discussing it with other will identify that whether the
individual have learnt the things in a correct way or something more has to be learned by
them.
Abstract conceptualization- In this stage the learner starts developing the concepts and
analyse the things which have been acquired in the earlier stage. In this stage the learner
has started learning about the new things and have become knowledgeable about the
things in which was earlier unaware. In this way the hotel supervisor will also learn many
things when they will start dealing with situation which is faced on daily basis by the
supervisor.
Active experimentation- In the last stage the learner starts suing that earlier knowledge
into the new situation as they know that they have gained the skill and knowledge
(Asprey and Lawson, 2018). In this they start making plans of the things which are new
for them but not full new as they have already acquired the knowledge which was
important for different situations and this can be done only when they will start doing
experimentation.
Consider most appropriate approach
The most appropriate approach for learning and also developing the professionalism will be the
Kolb’s learning cycle(Pattison, 2020). This is because the individual would be able to face the
situation which can arrive at any time in front of them. In the hotel also, for the hotel supervisor
