make a positive impact. Being authentic can help nurses to practice professionalism. Authentic
leadership impacts the nursing workforce, their profession, and the delivery of healthcare. It is
important to create a healthy workplace environment. A healthy environment allows nurses to
practice professionally and produce quality outcomes. Leaders play an important role in
maintaining a healthy and encouraging work environment that will promote the quality of
nursing practice and ensure better health outcomes of the patient (Al-Sawai, 2013). Power is
revealed through knowledge, skills, and expertise, and effective leaders subtly use power. For an

effective leader, it is important to influence other staff members to support, develop, and
implement decisions that are perceived as important by the team leader.
Upon interviewing the peer and the nurse leader, it has been found that both of them have
different perceptions based on their clinical role and experience. However, their responses
showed that both of them practiced aligning with the professional standards and were devoted to
their work.
