EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The study analyses the issues related to the information and technology
professionals with the example of the two scenarios of Rachel and William.
Both the two scenarios reflect two different situation and the analysis is made
by discussing several factors that include – legal, professional, employment,
social, and intrinsic factor. The study also mentioned the issues and made
priorities of the issues. The study helps to Rachel the quality assistant
engineer and William the junior engineer to make decision concerning their
personal factors regarding the issues.

1. Introduction
Both the scenes are left with some ethical consideration related to the
decision-making. In the first scene, Rachel, the quality assurance engineer of
the company is well aware about the fact that it is not possible to conduct all
the tests for the product within the short span of time. On the other hand, not
conducting all the tests will be an unethical activity from her end. The scenario
is left with the question that about Rachel decision about shipping the new
product without the necessary tests will be ethical or unethical for the
business. The second scenario is about the SDX Alliance company and the
new employee William. William was hired as the entry-level engineer without
knowing the concerns about copyrights. He utilised the code that was used to
be in practice in the previous start up business. Consequentially, the code
brought remarkable success to the business. However, during the quality
assurance procedure the misdeed was detected by the team. William
admitted that he was unaware about the copyright concerns and explained
that the previous start-up business does not exist anymore. Both the scenes
are dwelling with some ethical concerns associated with the business
decision-making procedure. The study will demonstrate the factors associated
with both the scene including the legal, professional, employment and social
factors, personal factors, intrinsic factors, prioritisation and suitable decisions
for both the companies.

2.1. Legal factors
2.1.1. Scenario 1.1
For both the scenarios the legal principle of ICT professionals should
be taken into consideration. The legal principles for security reason
demonstrate to examine the security risks inherent within an electronic
environment and takes into consideration the methods to use to reduce
these issues. Hence, considering the first scenario, Rachel needs to
keep in mind the above-mentioned principle before shipping the
untested product into the market place. She might acknowledge the
legal consequences of violating any regulation made for the ICT
professionals and its legal principles.
2.1.2. Scenario 1.2
Second scenario is depicting the unconscious attitude about copyright
concerns for the ICT professionals. The basic law associated with
copyright principle is the right to perform an activity with proper
authorization. The term activities include making copies, distribution of
the works, displaying any work, and creating any product or code.
Hence, William should be aware about these legal factors associated
with copyright concerns. The principle restricts any user from frequent
use of any product, distribution, and other territorial rights. The concern
is the way to show mutual respect to the owners. In spite of being the
owner of the code, William still required proper authorised statement
from the previous company before using it in SDX Alliances.

The concerned person in this scenario is a quality assurance engineer.
Hence, Rachel needs to understand the professional and ethical
concern associated with her designation. The professional dimension
of a quality assurance engineer required to have the experience of
development, handle the team, and adaptability of the perfection.
Hence, the profession demands the quality of adapting and identifying
the perfection among the group. Rachel need to decide whether to ship
the product without conducting the required test locates her in a
confusing situation. It associated with the ethical concern from her end
that can bring big loss for the company and among the consumer

The designation of William is of entry level software engineer in SDX
alliance. To describe the professional factors, it is worth to mention the
criticism about the recruiting procedure of the agency. There should be
a complete documentation about the copyright concern during the time
of hiring William. On the other hand, the profession of William demands
complete knowledge about coding and its concern with copyrighting. An
entry-level software engineer is also termed as junior engineer. William
needs to handle a team and follow the mid-level engineers to develop
proper knowledge about copyright concern prior to application to new
field of profession.

Rachel is a quality assurance engineer working for an organisation. It
should be understood by her that an organisation is also a part of the
community. Their services are dedicated for the community. This field
of profession is greatly impacted or affected by social, environmental,
and technical factors. Hence, living within the community Rachel needs
to ensure first that their work need to be perfect aiming not to provide
any harm to the community they are living within. She was recruited for
this company to provide quality product to their consumers and

William also needs to recognise the fact that the company has provided

connected with the position he was recruited for. It is simply the activity
of using some one else’s production with own name. The organisation

within the organisation can simply hamper their corporate image.
Hence, it can bring negative consequences for the organisation.

It is a known factor that the study of sociology teaches a person to
become compassionate with each other in every field of life. It can be
the field of personal world or the professional world. Instead of
considering the self as an individual entity the person needs to
consider the self as a social entity. It is very important factor to provide
importance to the peer group with whom a person lives within the
society. Rachel need to analyse the lessons she has got from her
cultural belief and religious belief. From the personal belief, shipping an
untested product will be an unethical activity. Hence, Rachel should
judge the dilemma with the moral perspective to get the appropriate
result.

Similar as Rachel, it is expected from William to consider himself as a
social entity first. He claimed that he was unaware about the copyright
concerns. However, the term copyright term is a very common word
used in the community. It is unacceptable fact that a junior engineer of

copyrighting. The social conditioning teaches a person to be true to the
self before convincing others. William needs to consider his moral

Rachel should consider her personal attributes before taking any
decision about shipping the product. Her decision can bring both
fortune and misfortune for the organisation. Hence, she should

William also need to understand his personal attributes before clarifying
his situation in front of the authority. He needs to understand that there
are certain factors associated with his job position. He is the junior
engineer of the organisation. For his misdeed his supervisors can also
be at risk. Hence, there should be personal development about the
knowledge of organisational care and responsibility for each other.
Remaining unconscious about the copyrighting concern makes him
irresponsible and inappropriate for the job position he was recruited for.

It can be stated that Rachel need to consult with the authority about the
issue she is facing regarding completing all the necessary tests before
shipping the product. Making the authority aware about the facing
challenges can make her responsibility easy to handle. She should
communicate about the issue she is facing regarding shipping of the
products. Along with this, to take a decision, it is not ethically correct for
Rachel to ship the products without conducting the required tests
associated with the product.

William needs to be responsible enough to be educated enough to
become aware about copyright concern. The company now need to
take authoritative permission for making proper decision to solve the
issue that has occurred at present.

3.1.1. Scenario 1.1
As per the scenario there are various concerns associated with the
case. Rachel should take into consideration all the factors including
professional, legal, environmental or social, and intrinsic. Combining all
the factors it will be easier for Rachel to take suitable decision for the
organisation and the for herself also. Rachel needs to take decision by
listening to her instincts to resolve the situation.
3.1.2. Scenario 1.2
The scenario of William depicts a sense of negligence from his end. He
should possess more responsible attitude for his job, the organisation,
and the community he is living within. It will help him to measure the
condition the authority is facing because of him. William needs to
develop his knowledge regarding copyright concern after overcoming
situation with the help of the authority of the organisation.
4. Conclusion
4.1.1. Scenario 1.1
As a conclusion it can be said that, Rachel need to understand the
personal factor more to take the decision for the sake of the
community. The products she is going to ship will reach to the potential
consumers of her organisation. Hence, Rachel should incorporate all
the lessons she has possessed from the initial stage of life. Prioritising
the issue and take initiative accordingly. There is an ethical concern
associated with her scenario. She understands that it is important to

William’s case is different from the case of Rachel. He is exhibiting a

profession. It is difficult to understand that William had performed the

any suggestion to William to resolve the situation. He needs to develop
knowledge and recognise the factor associated with his decision. He
must acknowledge the fact the company may face different adverse
situation by his mistake. Both the situations can be taken as the
