ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT
I think that communication is very important in terms of maintaining stable relationships
in the professional life. The type of language used by the personnel determines their personality.
If the managers use slang language for communicating with the employees, it creates a negative
image about the nature of the manager (DuFour & DuFour, 2013). On the other hand, utilization
of polished and ornamental language for communication reflects a standardized personality in
case of the personnel. Along with this, I also feel that the type of language, which the personnel
use, reflects his social background. Herein I can relate the language fluency, which is one of an
important criterion for hiring the desirable candidates.
Communication in workplace mainly consists of verbal and non-verbal. With verbal
communication, I can relate the meetings, conferences and presentations, which the managers
conduct for knowing the approach of the employees towards the undertaken steps. Written
communication is mainly followed for the employees, who are physically and mentally
challenged (Kohonen et al., 2014). Translators are hired for making the mentally abled
employees understand the message of the managers. These dynamics are followed for all the
levels of employees in order to maintain the stability in the relationship between the employees
and the managers.
I feel that communication is one of the effective means, which helps in making effective
plans for the betterment of the companies and organizations. Herein, I am reminded of the
participative management styles, with which open forums and discussions can be related. I can
make this relation, as it helps the personnel to mitigate the instances of conflicts, discriminations
and harassments. I think this mitigation is crucial in terms of maintaining the decorum of the
internal environment. According to my personal opinion, maintaining the decorum and order

helps in the projection of collaborative working, which is an agent in terms of achieving positive
results.
It gives me immense pleasure to point out that maintaining effective communication in
the workplace helps the employees to complete the tasks within the stipulated deadline. Here,
plans acquire important position in terms of systematizing the business activities. I think
involvement of the employees and other staffs in making these plans helps in yielding positive
results. In case of deadline issues, I feel face-to-face communications between the managers and
the employees prove beneficial in terms of achieving effective resolutions. I also feel that
communicating with the clients well in advance helps the personnel to sort them and complete
the tasks within the assigned deadlines.
Exposure of rational behavior is important for the staffs in order to tackle these issues in
an efficient and effective manner (Huffman et al., 2014). For this, I feel that the personnel need
to polish their preconceived communication skills. This could be done by attending spoken
English classes. Attending these classes help the personnel to upgrade their linguistic skills. I
also feel that the managers need to expose conscious approach towards the efforts of the
employees. Providing opportunity to the employees to give presentation in front of the foreign
delegates can be one of the effective means. These presentations act as a platform for the
employees to improve and upgrade their communication skills (Koprowska, 2014).
The main reason for these alterations is to attain flexibility towards the requirements and
changes. Herein lays the appropriateness of training, which enhances the preconceived skills,
expertise and knowledge of the employees as well as the managers. Countering this, I can say
that making practical application of the learnt skills and abilities reflects the true essence of the

term “flexibility”. For attaining this flexibility, the personnel need to possess adjusting skills in
their personal life as well. Practicing this adjustability in real life helps them in adjusting with the
workplace activities. Herein, I can attach the concept of deadlines. For example, if a company
faces deadline issue, and on top of that, there is inadequacy of the resources, the personnel need
to adjust with the available resources, so that the projects at hand are completed within the
stipulated deadlines. Or else, I think communicating with the clients for extensions would reduce
the burden of the personnel. Time is a crucial factor in this direction, as delaying the intimation
to the clients can aggravate the complexities of the personnel (Lyons, 2017).
