PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS 2
Student 1
Setting goals and seeing them through might sound easy but it is a skill that is achieved via the
use of certain principles namely; clarity, challenge, commitment, feedback and task complexity
(Locke, E., & Latham, G., 2013).
Student 1 demonstrates clarity by setting measurable, clear and specific goals such as the
monthly goal of ensuring the initiation of express gonorrhea/chlamydia screenings at her
workplace. Her goals are challenging as she has to juggle between house chores, studying and
working. She seems committed to graduating in time, and her kids give positive feedback to the
choices she's made as they realize her job is important as it involves taking care of other people.
She appreciates the complexity of her situation, and she is taking her time to manage the whole
process effectively.
Student 2
Student 2 doesn't display a clear thought process, especially regarding his work life. His goals
seem to make sense, but I find them to be too generalized for example, mastering time
management. Student 2 should set more specific goals in relation to work, for example, set up a
timetable to ensure he manages time well.
His goals, especially personal ones, are challenging as they involve working out to shed weight
and he seems committed to ensuring that he heals from his recent injuries. Feedback shows that
his business is doing well despite being a novice. Tasks related to his goals are complex, and he
will need effective management skills to see his goals through (Pervin, 2015).
