MAIN BODY
Concept of plagiarism, why it is relevant in academic writing, its types and role of internet
in plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as copying another individual's words, ideas, content or writing and
pretend that this is our own work. It refers to stealing of publications, research or journals to
complete original work of an individual. It is a criminal offence and is illegal if author has an
intellectual property rights against the research paper or article. Person who plagiarize commits a
serious ethical and legal violation. It is a process of presenting someone else work in our own
way (Cronan, Mullins and Douglas, 2018).
Plagiarism is relevant in academic writing because citing sources allows us to hold
dependence on another work, ideas and differentiate between an individual's work from the work
of sources. It devalues the hard work of students as graduates having same grades have done
same work and has skills. Plagiarism damages the reputation of the students as employers will
identify that colleges does not pass the skills which they need to do so.
There are 4 types of plagiarism which are as follows:
Direct plagiarism: It is defined as copying someone else writing, or quotation, it is
unethical and dishonest on the grounds of discipline. It is a word to word translation of
words, ideas or thoughts.

Self plagiarism: It occurs when student submits its previous work or mixes its previous
work with the current work without permission (Lipson, 2019). It is unacceptable as
student has done unethical work, self plagiarism applies when an individual submits same
piece of work in different classes.
Mosaic plagiarism: It arise when a student borrows phrases or paragraphs from the
source or find synonyms. It occurs when a student copy paragraphs from the sources and
use synonyms to replace the words of author.
Accidental plagiarism: It occurs when a student fails to cite or neglect to cite a source. It
can be done intentionally or unintentionally. In other words it refers to a person
unintentionally use similar words, ideas or structure without citing the source.
Internet plays an important role in plagiarism as it is a double edged sword. Internet
commits plagiarism but it also plays an important role in detecting plagiarism. Rise in the search
engine has made easier to detect plagiarism. Internet has decreased the effort of paper work and
role of copy paste function (Meuschke and et.al., 2018).
How academic integrity is relevant to professionalism in business environment and its
consequences for lack of academic integrity
Academic integrity is being fair and honest to others about the achievement an individual
has achieved in its academic. It is important for many reasons such as it builds trust among
others and provide value to the degree. Some types of academic dishonesty includes plagiarism,
misrepresentation and cheating.
There are various consequences for the lack of academic integrity such as students who
cheat feel guilty and may suffer from low self esteem. They can loss their career, families,
problems etc. in their professional life. Academic dishonesty leads to suspension or expulsion
from the college or institution (Meuschke and e.al., 2017).
Ways through which plagiarism can be avoided
Plagiarism is one of offense in academic research. There are number of ways that can be
adopted to avoid plagiarism. One of way is that researcher must first of all develop
understanding in respect to research topic. It is observed that researchers without understanding
research topic in proper manner start report writing on topic. Ultimately, they rephrase content
and failed to interpret and modify correctly. All these things lead to plagiarism. Hence, ultimate
solution of this problem is that researcher must take time to comprehend research topic deeply.

Once understanding get developed one can start report writing task. Due to good understanding
one does not need to view literature and ultimately by doing so plagiarism can be prevented
(Cronan, Mullins and Douglas, 2018).
In order to avoid plagiarism, one can use plagiarism checker that is available online free
of cost. After completing entire report writing work one can upload that content on site and can
identify parts which are plagiarized. By doing re work on that relevant part plagiarism can be
removed. In this way report can be made plagiarism free.
Third approach to avoid plagiarism is that one must not outsource report writing task to
an outsider agency. This is because content writer has to complete research task in short time
period and many times they do not read relevant content properly and just rephrase website
content. Hence, ultimately plagiarism comes in assignment work. Hence, one must itself do
authentic research to avoid plagiarism. However, content is related to calculation then only that
case there is no problem in outsource of research part. This is because calculation is done on
software and there are not any chances of duplicity of software generated results. Hence, on
calculation part there is less chance of plagiarism (Meuschke and e.al., 2017).
