recommended by NCSBN (The national council of state boards of nursing). This is helpful
enough to provide education direction and structure. Further, it is a type of mechanism to track

However, there are some set of issues that are also faced from the side of nurses when it is

given to them which are to be completed with speculated time period. In this context, it is
important to have appropriate management skills so that all the works can be managed in
appropriate manner (Willis, Valenti and Inman, 2010). On the other hand, leadership is
considered to be the quality of influencing people so that all the objectives set are attained with
enthusiasm and willingness. For a nurse, main skill is to understand the type of issues or
problems that are faced by them. Apart from this, they should be able to direct and guide them so
that they deliver high quality services. Leadership enables to influence other and management
control others. Further leadership make use of formulation of the principles and guidelines,
management make use of policies and procedures. In context with the professional practice
portfolio is I important for the nurses to have these skills so that they are able to gain effective
growth and development. With the help of leadership they can guide and direct patients. On the
other hand, with the help of management, they are able to complete all their tasks within
speculated time period (Jack and Donnellan, 2010).
2. Professional Standards
2.1 Description of situation
A nurse has different type of situations that they go through and these make them develop
their skills and capabilities. With this respect, one of the situation that was faced by me is being
described by making use of five different elements and they are as follows:
Context of practice: This situation was occurred at hospital
Who were involved: patient with metal disability and their family members.
Delegated to be to done: I was responsible to look after the patient and to provide
medication with the prescribed time that was given by doctor (Wald, Anthony and Donato,
2015).
Enacted on delegated responsibility: I made a time table in which all the medications that
had to be provided to the patients were written. Further, it also included all the requirements that
are needed by the patients. As per the patients who have mental disability need to be provided to
be effective care and support. I was facing difficulty to make the patient take all medications.
Further, in this process the patients mostly got violent and I had to take help from his family
members as the patient was comfortable with them and he allowed them to provide them with
medications.

Outcome of the situation: In order to overcome this issue, I have to visit the patient with
their family members so that I was able to develop strong relationship with him. With time, I was
able to do so and was able to make the patient trust on me (Croft, Coggshall and Powers, 2010).
This way, it can be stated that I needed patients and proper understanding of requirements of
patients.
2.2 Critical discussion
Within student nurse practice, I was focused on proving all type of information that will
be appropriate enough to make sure that all the details that are provide are understood by each
one. In order to make understand other regarding the case, it was important to for each of the
nurse to understand the set of roles and responsibilities that has to be played by each one so that
they are able to understand the case in effective manner. As per the roles that have to be played,
it is essential that all type of issues that are faced from the side of patients is identified and
strategies are developed so that they can be satisfied. When the roles that have to be played by
nurses are clear, then it becomes favourable enough to make them understand the case
efficiently. In accordance with the issue that was faced, it was important for me to develop strong
relationship with patient and this was possible by spending time and with effective commination
(Hall, Byszewski and Stodel, 2012). As a nurse, it was important for me to provide the patient
with time to time medication. And so I took the decision to visit the patient with his family
member so that he is able to develop trust. As per the action I focused on developing strong
relationship with the patient. The visit was done on regular basis and with time strong
relationship was developed. I needed to be patient so that I was able to understand the
requirement of patients. Lastly, the type of responsibility that had to be developed by me needed
to be strong. This was only possible when I spend time and as per the role it is important for me
to deliver proper case support to patient.
All these considerations were that was helpful for me to make them understand the
situations that was and the steps that were taken by me to overcome them.

are able to deliver skills and guidelines to health care professionals. This career will be relevant
for me to develop and grow in appropriate direction.
This organization is helpful enough to make me skilled so that I able to handle any type
of adverse cases. Further, the type of support that is provided by this organization enables to
grow in all aspects. The organization aim and monitoring all the people who are involved and
then they analyse each one of them. This way, as per the findings that are made, they provide
them with training and make them get ready for any type of issues that are faced by them. As per
the professional opportunity that I will get is that I can also become a training who will guide and
