A. Professional presence
1. Difference between two models of health and healing
There are different types of models which are discussed by Dossey among them Era II
(Body/mind) model invented in 1950s and ERA III (Body, mind, spirit) model proposed in
1990s. It has been proven that functioning of the human body can be affected because of various
factors such as emotions, stress etc. Further, it leads to increase chances of diseases such as high
blood pressure and Ulcers. The above-mentioned model shed light on the realization that to treat
human body is not easy because of imbalance in the physical body and mental activity of the
patient is affected which result in diseases. (Capolongo, 2016). Era II model, stated that body is
not more than a body part because if any part gets broken then it can be fixed again. While in
ERA III (Body mind spirit) model, where stated that mind is boundless and it does not only
affect an individual body but another person body also. One of the significant difference between
ERA III and Era II model is that the way human thoughts, beliefs, emotions and attitudes can
affect their body (Fehr and Capolongo, 2016). There are two models of health and healing first
one is Era II (Body/mind) model and second one is ERA III (Body, mind, spirit) model. Era I
model of the body is rooted on thereductionist idea of the human body. On the other side ERA
III (Body, mind, spirit) model postulated that the mind is intricately connected to thehuman body
2. Difference between one model and my professional presence
One of the model that is Era III (Body mind spirit) model which is more holistic approach
because in this body, mind, and spirit is combined. It is not just a part of body which is discussed
in Watson’s Theory of Nursing it reflects that human caring, consciousness and care are
essential, to make an effective arrangement of mind body soul, therefore it is important to take
care of all body parts (van Hoof, Rutten and Kort, 2015). My nursing career duration was 36
years and clinical areas where I worked is ICU, ED. At present, I am working as an
administrative role in which I focused on the experience of patient when they suffer from
diseases and quality outcome of treatment provided by me. Since from last few years
fundamental of ERA 3 fascinate me. Further, a healthcare firm understand the importance of
ERA 3 model and they hire full-time Chaplin who is responsible for the religious needs of an
organization and pray with service user (Ghazali and Abbas, 2017). Hence, with the use of mind
body spirit model treatment can become effective and it helps in improving the physical and
3

mental health of people. I was involved in M technique therapy as it is a registered method for
treating a patient who suffers from depression, anxiety etc. Further, M technique is known as
Physical Hypnotherapy, the essence of nursing and spiritual dance which result in relaxation of
service users.
There is a different between ERA1 model and my personal belief related to health and
healing. My belief is that human body is made by up of two essential components that are
physical body and mind. While in ER1 it sees that the mind as a result physical mechanism of
the brains.
There is a significant different between the ERA1 thinking and my professional presence
that I do not believed that mind is everlasting due to complicated connexion with the human
body. The notion of the human body is different from ERA1 model understanding of the human
body. In this model it shows that mins as result of physical mechanism of the brain while I view
that mind as a separate from the physical body but the mind and physical body are
interdependent.
3. Way professional presence influence nursing practice
Mindfulness and distraction play a significant role because it has some implication on my
nursing practices. At the time of concentrating on a single task, it is important to quit other
activity or task that I need to do in order to provide quality services to patients. (Hill,
Wittkowski, and Hare, 2018). Along with this, I do not react negatively in some situation or
become angry because of other person’s mistakes. While I am mindful, my rate of responding to
others get higher. For instance, I can respond to a service user in less time when I am mindful as
compared to time when I get distracted. In contrast to this, distraction creates a problem and it
influences the way of working as well as the ability to make decision (Olsen, 2015). Hence
medication is needed so, that chances of making mistake can be avoided. Along with this,
distraction can hamper the way of working and ability to compete the task effectively. Further, it
leads to enhance my level of adjournment. The reasons of due to which individual get distract
and unable to concentrate on work is because of personal issues, financial problem, supervisor
yelling order and negative attitude of patients.

B. Personality Preferences
1. Result from the Keirsey Temperament personality test
The Keirsey Temperament personality test is one of the extensively used questionnaires for
the self-assessment which is designed with the aim of assisting an individual to understand
themselves and others. In Keirsey test, four different temperaments that are idealist and Noetic,
Artisans or iconic, rational or dianoetic and Guardian or Plastic. This all are described below:
In Artisans, it considers involving adaptability and tangibility of an individual. For instance, a
person wants virtuosity and stimulation with the greater concern, than it need to avoids
aggressive nature and have good grasping power. Further guardian is people who are like to
work in an organized manner, schedules their work and concrete. (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera,
2014). Further, they seek for belonging and security with a high concern for their works. One of
the biggest strength is that they are logistic and a cornerstone of society.
Apart from this, Idealist is the people who have strong feeling sympathy and they are
abstractor. They pursue the importance and meaning of their profession. One of their major
concern is growth at a personal level with their own identity. Their main strength is diplomacy
and effective working as compared to others (Van Dam, van Vugt, and Field, 2018). At last,
rational are the personalities which are abstract oriented and they reflect their concern with
knowledge they gain and personal competency. Hence, they play a significant role as a
coordinator while carrying out work.
2. Analyzing test results
The way preference identified by the test align with relationship, favorite and career
choice is as follows
The result of Keirsey Temperament personality test of my shows that type of
temperament I possess is guardian. There are different types of guardians such as provider,
supervisor, protector, and inspector. Hence, all these types of personalities are suitable for my
personal trait. For example, I can make a fast decision because I am a practical person. Further
event, birthday of my family member adnd friends are very special for me as because it shows
love and care for each other. Further, in Keirsey, the guardian is considered to be effective and
they like fulfill their duty on time (Johns, Cottingham and Helft, 2016). Along with this, I believe
that my loyalty toward the work and ability to manage a team effectively in order to accomplish
objectives is efficient and effective. While performing the role as a leader I can evaluate my
5

success on the basis of time under which my team accomplish the goal. Further, I believed that
loyalty toward the work leads to support me in completing the work in an effective manner. On a
personal level, the test was accurate as I have two friends in my inner circle and they help in
moving on the right path to success (Laderman, and Roseman, 2016). Further this Temperament
personality help in making a strong relationship with customers and delivering them quality
services. Along with this, I can effectively communicate with patient and understand their
problems so that they can easily get quality treatment. Along with this I learned the way of
treating patient at the work place. Further to measure my success I can take reviews from my
coworkers related to the way of working and make changes accordingly. I also learned from
looking others and learning from seniors. I have ability it learn new things so that I can provide
quality services to patient.
b.) Two potential challenge or barriers
At the time of practicing my profession, there are some barriers and challenges which I can
face while dealing with people of opposite traits. As one of the main barriers is cultural
competency and lack completing work on time. (Erickson, 2017). As my colleagues who possess
rationale personality find out the way to complete things in a shortcut way. Hence it shows that
they can break the rules and regulation for completing the task. One of the other barriers which is
faced at the workplace is related to communication. As because different traits person mostly
prefers to communicate directly and in improper language. Due to this reason, it becomes tough
to understand them and it leads to create a problem.
Through recognizing all these personal traits, I can easily show positive behavior towards
others who have opposite personality. Instead of getting aggressive or showing negative
emotions, I can respectfully and politely respond in a different situation (Capolongo, 2016). I
tried to communicate effectively with others in order to remove communication barrier. I
understand that it is important to have some set of qualities, integrity and ability in order to cope
up with stress and problems. At last, I also motivated my staff member to work in an appropriate
and organized manner in order to accomplish strategic goal and make improvement in providing
care to patients. One of the other challenge which I can face is realted to the lack of technology
which is was not aware the way of using it. To overcome this challenge, I can learn new
technology and use it in an effective manner in order to provide quality services

C. Mindfulness Practice
1. Developing a mindfulness practice plan consistent with interest, goals and beliefs
a. Creating two specific goals for each aspects of whole person (physical, vital/rhythmic,
mental/emotional, and biographical/spiritual body) to maintain balance. Specific goal for
each aspect are as follows:
Spiritual goal: The psychological and spiritual wellness of the person can be supported
in various ways. As for developing and maintaining the state of health and wellness, a
person needs to perform an exercise and spiritual act regularly. (Fehr and Capolongo,
2016). While working as a nursing professional, I ensure that all the personality
dimension of a service user get fulfilled.
Physical goal: It is essential for me to improve my physical health as it will help me in
controlling blood pressure, heart rate etc. and also improving my symptom of
Rheumatoid arteritis. One of my goal related to physical health is to return to my healthy
lifestyle that is to eat diet food. Along with this, I planned to walk each day at lunchtime
for 20 minutes to maintain my health (van Hoof, Rutten. and Kort, 2015).
Emotional goal: Emotional is referred to the feeling which individual posses and it
impact own lifestyle. My aim is to challenge myself emotionally because it needed to
fight the negativities associated with the different situations. For achieving this goal, I
planned this through discussing the situation with my colleagues and family member.
Along with this, I also tried to ignore the frustration because of time efficiency. As it
plays a significant role in reducing the stressful situation. Therefore, my plan is to learn
to meditate and avoid negative thinking daily.
Vital or Rhythmic goal: For me, it is important to maintain a balance between stressful
profession, family, and friends. For this purpose, it is important to develop and try to
maintain a healthy balance for becoming one of the role models for service users (Ghazali
and Abbas, 2017). My goal is to maintain the cardiac rhythm in me. It is so because I get
panicked and distressed when I do not get help from others. Therefore, I need to control
my nerves. My Rhythmic goal is to get at 7 hours sleep in order to take full rest and work
effectively.
b. The way to accomplish each of the goals created in part C1a

In order to accomplish all the goals which are mentioned above, I need to become a strong
and spiritual person. Further, I need to take less support from others and try to maintain each and
everything myself. In order to maintain my health, I need company of friends or family member
who can join me in exercise. For instance, with the support of one colleague, I can go to Gym at
least three times a week. At the workplace, I Joined the group of employees who like to walk at
lunch time. Furthermore, to accomplish my Rhythmic and vital goal, I need to make the balance
between my day to day activities because my personality traits are as guardian I can use me
strengthen for managing work and other activities as per my daily schedule. Along with this, one
of the critical factors of mine is to maintain the relaxation and sleep cycle (Hill, Wittkowski,
Hodgkinson, and Hare, 2016). It is essential for me to take proper diet for maintaining physical
health. For this purpose, I need to make a proper schedule of my diet and follow it strictly for
accomplishing the goals. To manage my relaxation and sleep time, I need to set the alarm on my
phone and it leads to establishing circadian rhythm as it leads to the wellbeing of the whole body.
I stated above that to accomplish an emotional goal is not an easy task as for this, I downloaded
application of CALM on my mobile phone which is effective mediation for a beginner. Apart
from this for gaining spiritual wellness I started visiting religious places with my friends and
family. I started the regular prayer and participated in different religious activities (Ghazali and
Abbas, 2017).
D. Healing Environments
1. Two direct patient care optimal healing environments in healthcare
The Samueli Institute is a non-profit research firm which is dedicated to an optimal healing
environment as it assists and stimulates service user’s healing through addressing the physical,
spiritual and behavioral factors of their health. The framework of OHE is used by the
organization in order to find out deficiencies and improve it in their care. There are four
components in the framework for improvement that are behavioral, internal, external and
intrapersonal. According to Samueli in the internal domain, required to consider intention
healing and relax. Further in intrapersonal includes cultivating of healing relationship within the
firm. (Hill, Wittkowski, and Hare, 2016). The focus of behavioral is practicing a healthy
lifestyle and use of collaborative medicine approach. At last, in an external domain, it considers
the building of healing spaces in the facility and minimizing the overall carbon footprint of the
facility. While gathering all this approach become a holistic approach in order to provide care to

the patient. On the other side, the role of Cape Coral hospital is to provide wellness to the
patient. They have established an environment for healing the patient and they also organized
smoke-free campus where they provide a healthy choice of lunches.
They also focus on providing art therapy and birthing suits as they considered it as an effective
step of healing. According to the magnet model, all the nurses who work in organization need to
follow the guiding principles of patient centered care and staff centered work environment so as
to balance the work and personal life. In Optimal healing environment patient are need to
provide more healing oriented and coordinates system. In the concept of optimal healing
environment there are different aspect of patient experience such as physical, emotional, and
spiritual, environmental and behavioral. One of the other hospital is Bupa care home where I can
easily provide treatment to patient in optimal healing environment. Their healing environment
provides a better medicine and also help in controlling a stressful situation. Along with this,
patient who stay in new facilities will also be appreciated with the use of artistic and aesthetic
elements. There are some impatient services are provide such as massage therapy, room service ,
spiritual care etc.
2. The way to apply self-awareness and insights gained from part D1 to promote professional
presence in your current healthcare setting
In my community facility provided by the organisation is effective and help in healing the
health of the patient. As, I work in one of the effective healing settings where all the codes of
conduct and framework are applied in order to make sure patients are treated safely. Further, the
mission statement of the firm is to become one of the best community hospitals in the state
through promoting healthy environment (Busse, Aboneh and Tefera, 2014). The magnet facilities
are professional nurses who measures social, physical and emotional need of service users.
Further, they define the goal and develop a preventative, rehabilitative plan for providing care.
This plan is being developed and implemented in collaboration with the help of both patient and
her family. Then it is evaluated by a health care professional so that success can be achieved.
The effective recognition of my personal and professional skills is that I can cope up with any
situation. As one of the unique function of my is to help the patient in order to recover their
health. As my personality permit me to improve the quality of care for people to whom I am
providing care. This will help me improve my skill and provide effective and quality care in
future. Profession should be well trained and they can provide a quality services to the patient.
9
Document Page
Professional should understand in which environment patient can be treated well and they can
get quality services. Along with this, for professional presence it is important to develop
interpersonal environment for healing relationship. It is essential for professional to make sure
that patient is also a part of team as other employees. It is because all about care of patent and
some specific care for specific needs patient. Furthermore, the behavioral environment is the
practice related to the integrative and collaborative medicine and to live a healthy lifestyle.
