1.1 Identification and reflection on my approach to personal
learning and development
Personal and professional development is an ongoing activity of identifying one's life goals
and objectives and developing required skills and knowledge to reach the potential. These
developments support a person in achieving success, maturity and satisfaction. Personal
development skills refers to the abilities and qualities that assist a person to grow
individually and professionally. It is essential for a person to acknowledge those skills that
will help him to maximize his potential (Ekström, Hilletofth and Skoglund, 2021). While
attending the module, I came to realise that personal development and learning involves
activities that improve an individual potential and capabilities, develop human capital,
improves quality of life and facilitate employability and accomplishments of life goals and
aspirations. It can also consist formal and informal actions for building others in roles such
as guide, teacher, manager, mentor, counsellor or coach while it is not restricting the self-
development. I also understood that personal development plan can be very beneficial for
building career in business and management. This PDP will help me to reflect on my abilities
and knowledge and also I will be able to find the opportunities to improve the areas where I
am lacking. During my learning, I realized that most of the people underachieve in their
career as they do not focus on the areas of development which will help in attain mastery in
any area. It is important to set a goal for the career, make a required plan and work on daily
basis, which will result in progress and personal development within the career. Hence, it
refers a direction in which an individual can identify and assess his skills, knowledge and
qualities, ascertain their life goals and develop them with an intent to realise and increase
their potential. It is important that a person must identify the skills that needs development
as well as that allows to create tactical and strategic plans for the growth and development.
1.2 Identification of the transferable skills I have already developed
by attending this module
Skills required in business and management refers to the attributes that a person requires to
run his business with an intent to attain goals. As I chose my career in business
management, I must assure the essential skills that are needed to develop my career in such
field. While attending this module, I came to realise the important skills that are essential to
build career in business and management. Some of the important skills that I developed
while attending this module are mentioned below:
Communication skills: Communication is very vital to put one's thoughts and ideas in
front of others. In order to seek opportunities in business and management, I came
to realise that I have to be good at my communication which represents my
thoughts, ideas and opinions very clearly to my peer, employees, clients, media or
suppliers. While attending this module, I developed my communication skills by
communicating with my classmates, teachers and mentors (Garcia, 2019). I tried to
interact more with them in order to understand their point of view as well.
