SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS IN THE INDUSTRY
I have been working in hospitality industry from past 6 years as a HR assistant manager
and working in the same industry has helped me to learn various things about human resource
management and other work processes of the hotel. Stating about my experience, I can say that I
have learned many things and this has highly contributed in my learning and development
aspects (Cox and et. al., 2007). Therefore, I can say that, I have acquired good experience while
working with the same hotel for such longer period. I have completed my studies in Human
Resource Management areas; hence I have complete knowledge about the aspects that are being
included while managing people.
Working with Marriott International hotel has greatly contributed in enhancing my skills
and capabilities; therefore I highly appreciate this. When I applied for the job position, I had no
idea about the profile; but after acquiring training on specific areas, I came to realize the
competency of human resource management (Freese and Samaras, 2006). According to my
experience, I can say that I have developed good communication skills because I was entitled to
work handle people at work and at the same time, I was also liable to communicate with
customers. This was one of the most important job roles which I had to handle; therefore I have
developed the same sort of skill in me.
Further, I can also say that in order to be more professional in career, one must have
various skills so that work can be managed accordingly. Apart from this, I can also say that I
used to work with team members who were from different groups (Gijselaers, 2013). While
working with such people I came to realize that team management skills are essential for the
purpose of handling a team and this is also vital in order to make a team successful and
competitive. Therefore, working in Marriott has helped me to conduct all the work processes in
suitable manner. This has also helped me in managing a team in coordinating manner.
Therefore, I can say that I have the ability to become a good leader and entrepreneur;
further I can also guide others regarding how they should manage their job roles. Hence,
basically I can say that I am an encouraging personality as I have received this compliment from
one of my colleagues (Lopper, 2007). This has strengthened my skills and capabilities; therefore
I can become more competent in the same area of concern.

EVALUATION OF GROUPāS EFFECTIVENESS
On the basis of generalized concept, Groups are developed for several reasons and in
most of the companies, groups and teams are developed for solving complex problems. In a
group, different people play different roles; however differences in thinking may change team
bonding level and the same happened with me as well. For all the six years, I had to work as a
team; therefore that helped me to realize the importance of team work and group dynamics
(Mahajan, 2000). Earlier I used to think that groups are always developed according to the
perception of people; however now I came to realize that there are several reasons for which
groups are formed. While working with Marriott International, I have seen managers developing
groups for different purposes; thus I can also segregate why groups are being developed in the
organization.
Moving on to the purpose of group, I can say that I used to work in a formal group
wherein culturally diversified people worked together. While working with such people, I came
to realize that this is one of the best sources through which interaction level could be enhanced.
Since, I personally experienced the same sort of benefit while working with group members
(Nutley, 2008). Stating about my personal experience, I can say that I am able to communicate
with all my team members in effectual manner and I always ensure that I am polite and humble
to everyone. Therefore, in this respect I can say that working in a group gives people the
opportunity to lean more, develop more and prosper more.
In terms of building my career, I have acquired knowledge on all such aspects. The most
important dimensions of group work is to have proper coordination among team members;
therefore I learned this as well. Moreover, as a team we have contributed in meeting the common
goal of the hotel and for that all the team members shared work practices in effectual manner.
However, instead of group work, I also experienced differences in team work while working
with culturally diversified people (Rock, 2010). This brings the need to respect each and every
cultural values. As a team member, I ensured that I am listening the requirements of all the team
members. This is also crucial in terms of reducing the chances of conflicts and grievances in a
team. Further, positive environment can also be created in the team.

EVALUATION OF YOUR OWN PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Being the HR assistant manager of Marriott Hotel, it is important for me to depict a
professional behaviour with disciplined conduct. Subordinates that have been working under my
guidance have experienced good amount of increase in knowledge and betterment in their
performance. I have portrayed effective communication skills which includes patient listening
and providing polite and humble feedback (Rose, 2008). My ability to perform patiently in
varied situations irrespective of the stress levels has supported me in developing positive image
in the company. Moreover, my reputation in eyes of subordinates and senior management was
clean and positive as compared to my colleagues.
The Marriott International Hotel has a brand recognition. It was my responsibility as a
manager to utilise my skills in such a way that guests and customers coming to the hotel do not
face any sort of inconvenience (Gijselaers, 2013). I have fluency in four international languages
i.e. English, French, German and Spanish. This professional skill of mine helped me in
developing better relationships with customers and foreign clients. Moreover, there were
situations when international clients were not able to communicate with senior management due
to insufficiency in foreign language. My knowledge of multiple languages helped the company
in resolving such issues.
The leadership skills are an important part of management and organisation of tasks. I
had effective time management skills which led to proper planning and scheduling of daily
business operations (Nutley, 2008). From ground staff to the eatery department, my time
management skills have helped in organising various events and also initiate the disciplined
working in organisation. Moreover, I was able to handle different queries, doubts and clashes
that often occurred between individuals and groups. Overall peace in the workspace was
maintained effectively with help of my leadership skills.
Based on the above discussion, I can say that I have learned a lot of things while working
as a HR assistant manager in Marriott International hotel. Stating about my professional skills, I
can say that I have directed people in positive direction so that they can contribute in meeting the
