1.0 self reflection on personal learning and development and the transferable skills
Self reflection is all about analysing and evaluating work and learning experiences.
Basically, self reflection has helped me improve my personal learning abilities and also develops
my skills and knowledge. An effective professional and academic skills plays a vital role in
students life as it helps to increase their productivity and success. Learning and development in
business and management settings can help me gain transferable skills which can be used for
future career job role. Transferable skills is all about those skills that can be learned by students
in university and apply it to many other settings to or areas of their life. Beyond helping you earn
the academic credentials students may need to enter the workforce with different academic and
transferable skills like team-working, communication skills, employability, critical thinking, note
making and time management as it is transferable to the workplace (Loza and et.al., 2021). As
we all know that self reflection is all about examining own strengths and weaknesses. With the
help of self reflection an individual can easily improve their learning outcomes and fosters self
regulated learning. During personal learning and development, With the help of self reflection, I
am able to enhance continuing professional development which is important for future success.
During the self reflection time, I have enhanced my personal development and learning process.
Not only this, I am able to improve self awareness and self motivation too which helps me to
focus on improvement. Reflection helps me to expand more and develop my critical thinking
skills and problem solving skills (Academic Skills and Development, 2022).
1.1 identification and reflection on my approach to personal learning and development
Personal development is all about focusing on ways to better yourself while on the other
side personal development is all about an educational approach that aims to customize learning
needs, skills and strengths for learners (Oddone, Hughes and Lupton, 2019). With the help of
learning plan, I am able to enhance my skills and knowledge. Not only this, with the help of
personal learning I am able to creates a unique learning experience in the classroom. As a student
of business and management, I focused on approach to personal learning and development. It
allows me to express my curiosity to learn things and enhance my abilities.
I believe that every student must maximize their personal development in the workplace.
There are many ways in which I can improve performance and fill knowledge gaps. Not only
this, it is essential for students to address knowledge gaps, skills and alter work life balance to
develop goals and development. So, in order to evaluate my own performance I have identified

some approach to personal learning and development which can improve my weaknesses and
gives me confidence to deal with challenges.
Set goals- my tutor always taught me to set goals, as this is the basic step every student
must take. Clarifying goals and objectives will help them, to achieve success. The goals should
be SMART Goals and help students to achieve success. I believe setting gaols has helped me to
achieve time management skills. Because now I am able to prioritize things in personal and
professional life.
Write it down- this is one of the most commonly used method or you can say approach
which has helped students to achieve personal development target. By noting down about the
action I have taken and action that I am going to take in the future in personal development plan
can help me keep track on personal development targets.
Improve existing skills- self-improvement is much-needed in the career of students,
when it comes to self-improvement and personal learning I often concentrate on learning
something new. From the lecture, I have learned that strengthen something will help me achieve
extraordinary skills which is beneficial in business and management.
1.2 identification of the transferable skills I have already developed by attending this module
As this module is all about business management study, it has helped me understand and
reflect on essential professional and study skills which is necessary for success.
Time management skills- By attending this module I have understood that time
management is very important for managing work at workplace (Loza and et.al., 2021). Not only
in professional life, time management is also very essential in personal learning and personal
development. Effective time management skills will allow me to plan my days in such a way that
it would help me finish my work with less efforts and in less duration time. It will also make the
most of the limited time I have got during learning process. During the module, my tutor also
told me importance of time management skills in the workplace. If students practice regularly on
their time management skills then they wont miss deadlines and appointments in their present
and future. According to my opinion, appointments and deadlines are difficult to keep track of ,
so students must keep themselves active and keep track with their work so that they can finish on
time by prioritizing and proper division of work into manageable chunks.

critical thinking skill- In addition, I have also identified another transferable skill which
is critical thinking skills (El Soufi and See, 2019). My tutor told me that as a student of business
management I need to think critically about the information and resource I will use in my work.
When an individual use critical thinking skills, they can easily ask the right questions when
reading the work of others. During the module I have developed my critical thinking skills which
has helped me a lot to justify my own arguments and ideas in front of others. It has also helped
me to interpret evidence and data so that I can identify the significance to assignment questions.
Further I have also developed an understanding that critical thinking needs open-minded person
who can learn effectively just by synthesizing their thoughts.
1.3 skills I would like to develop during my academic studies, personal life and the workplace
From module learning I have learned that getting a degree is not enough for getting
placed in a good organization, for students of business and management field needs to improve
their job prospects along with skill development. Soft skills are transferable qualities that help
people succeed. During my personal life, academic studies and workplace I would like to
develop communication skills, problem solving skills, self-discipline and self awareness,
organization, group work and presentation skills. these skills would help me achieve my
organisational goals (Tomé, Herrera and Lozano, 2019).
Time management- During the model I have learned that time management and
organization skills is both linked to each other. When student know how to manage and prioritize
task then they can organize their work effectively (Park, McLean and Yang, 2020). If I can
manage work on time I can handle the pressure of working at workplace and able to do several
tasks on time. With the help of research skills I can easily find out the sourced of reliable
information which is necessary in business management career. I would to like to improve my
self motivation and confidence level which can help me to boost self awareness as well. When a
potential employer looking at my CV is sure that they will focus on these skills.
Criticism- Plus, I would also like to improve one of my weakness that is criticism.
Nowadays employers hire those employees who are capable of taking constructive criticism and
following what they have been told to improve their own work. Sometimes I criticize my work
and does not appreciate it. However, when students study at university they will have to receive
and face plenty of constructive criticism from their tutors and peers, at this time one should be

having patience to improve their own work. Also I need to focus more on my weakness that is
impatience and discomfort taking big risks.
Presentation skills- Talking in relation with presentation skills, it is very important for
employees to have presentation skills in organization. With the help of presentation skills, I will
be able to create innovative ideas come up with interesting slides and creative ideas to explain
about the topics. The person who has communication skills does not mean that they also have
presentation skills too. Having good presentation skills will help me to grow my self-confidence
which also support me to express reports informations easily and discussions as well.
Research skills- Further speaking about research skills, it is highly valued skills in a
great many professions, research skills will help me find out the accurate and reliable
information which can be used by me in my future projects and also on reports. For eg: If a
student know about research skills then he will quickly become an irreplaceable team member.
Budgeting skills- as we all know that being a student we always think twice before
spending a single penny on entertainment, household budget and shopping. Student with
budgeting skills will be able to manage a budgeting at workplace as well (Aung and Mon, 2020).
The reason behind that is managing budgets is very important skill for the candidate who is
pursuing business management career. If I will improve these skills and work on this on
continuous basis I will be able to see the goals of my organization and decide how to budget a
project. With the help of these skills I will easily able to create budget plan to manage finances at
workplace.
