Section 1: Portfolio Evidence
Portfolio Evidence [Week 1] The Long-term vision
When discussing the types of roles you would like to apply for, it is useful to consider how these might
fit in with your long-term vision. Imagine yourself travelling approximately 5 or 10 years into the
future. This activity is not about laying down a rigid plan but to help you gain a sense of the type of
life you want, so you can make the right kinds of choices to achieve it (200 words).
Activity: The Long-term vision
Five/ten years from now, I see myself...
Aspect Write your own vision of this aspect below
I consider the most important things in my
life to be…
The most essential thing that I desire to achieve in my entire
life is becoming an efficient person with required knowledge
as well as skills.
Living in which part of the world and in
what kind of place?
I dream of residing at a place where I am able to access all the
facilities required for daily routine of life and where I can live w3ith
peace.
Working for myself? Working for a large
company? Working for a small company?
Though, at initial stages I would have to work for another big or
small employer, I wish to become an employer in the near future.
Doing what kind of work? Routine?
Challenging?
In an office? In the field?
I would like to perform a challenging activity, which would ensure
me to develop my personal as well as professional efficiencies.
With what kind of work/life balance In order to maintain a balance between my personal as well as
2

(consider hours of work/stress levels)? professional lives, I would like to work not more than 8 hours in a
day.
Taking a lead? Taking responsibility?
Working individually? Part of a team?
I have a tremendous core competency of working with leading that
team responsibly as per the required leadership skills.
Working with colleagues who are…
artistic? intellectual? practical? caring?
competitive?
As a team member or leader, I would be make my self able to
determine the skills of my colleagues or subordinates in order to
design a framework for their actions to be performed.
I enjoy spending my time outside work
doing…
Other than my professional activities, I enjoy hanging out with my
friends and family at different places.
Other important aspects of my vision of
the future are…
Other than achieving professional skills, my dream is to travel each
and every place in the world, as I am a travelling addict.
Portfolio Evidence [Week 1] Potential roles and their suitability
Using one of the roles you discussed in your week 1 tutorial, complete the following table below (use
the following example to guide you; write 300 words):
EXAMPLE: My desired Role is: Retail Manager
Key Skills required My current experience in this skill
Effective Leadership Skills In my current job as a retail assistant, I have
helped to manage the store and train staff in
the absence of my manager. However, this is
an area I need to gain more experience and
confidence in.
The ability to plan and prioritise workloads My experience at GSM has helped me
develop these skills, although there is a still a
little room for improvement as I need to
start work on my assignments earlier.
How does this role match my long term vision?
Advantages
I think I would enjoy the fast-paced and varied nature of the work and wouldn’t mind taking responsibility for different
areas of the business. ..(please continue)
My desired Role is: Human Resource Manager
Key Skills required My current experience in this skill –Use own
words
Communicational skills As currently, I am involved with providing my
factor services to customer care department, I
have a tremendous ability of communicating with
different personnel as well as leading them. I am
able to provide effective guidance to my

profession requires me to deal with various
customers and solving their grievances. Even, m

during graduation programme.
Multi tasking The human resource managers are required to
perform a number of task at the same time in the
context of serving an organisation with its factor
services. I am able to handle different tasks at the
same point of time and that too efficiently. I have
developed this skill from my present job, as it
requires me to handle at-least 50 customers with
different grievances in a single day.
Managerial skills The term Human recourse management is widely
associated with managing the human resource that
has been appointed at a business venture, in
respect of performing various operational
activities for that company. My current job allows
me to manage different individual with different
perceptions as well as behaviour in an efficient
manner.
How does this role match my long term vision? – Use own words
Advantages
These skills that I have been generated in myself, would allow me become efficient enough inn order to perform my
tasks or job effectively.
Portfolio Evidence [Week 2] Belbin test
Belbin (1996) outlines the different type of roles people may have within a team. Complete the
following questionnaire to identify your main role(s). You will discuss the results in your week 2
tutorial. To complete the questionnaire:
1. Tick in the far left hand columns the one, two or three sentences most applicable to yourself.
2. Then in the column on the right, share 10 points between those sentences that apply to you: one
of which you feel sums you up well while the other only applies some of the time.
E.g. You could give your first choice seven points and three points to your second choice. In some
instances you might decide that there are two sentences which apply to you equally – if this is the
case, award five points to each.

Scoring Key for Self-Perception Inventory
1. Transfer your point’s allocation from the seven sections of the Self-Perception Inventory to the
appropriate boxes below. The pre-printed numbers in the grid refer to the question numbers (QN) of
each section. For example if for Section A you scored seven points for question 6 and three points for
question 1, you would allocate them in the columns RI and IMP respectively.
SH CO PL RI ME IMP TW CF
QN QN QN QN QN QN QN QN
A 3. 4 7. 4. 6. 5. 1. 6 8. 2.
B 1. 4 6. 5. 3 8. 4. 3 7. 3. 2.
C 7. 4. 6. 2. 5 3. 5 5. 8. 1.
D 2. 3. 2 6. 4. 5. 1. 8 8. 7.
E 6. 5. 1. 3 7. 3. 4. 7 2. 8.
F 6. 4 4. 5. 1. 3. 8. 7. 3 2.
G 5. 7. 6. 3. 6 2. 1. 4 8. 4.
Total 16 2 6 11 8 25 3
2. Once you have allocated all your points, total each column. The highest two totals represent your
primary and secondary preferred team roles.
3. After your tutorial, comment briefly on your primary and secondary team roles, what they
represent and to what extent you agree with the outcome, using evidence of past experiences to
support your position (150 words):
The primary role that I have [played is IMP, whereas, the secondary role played by me is SH, in
performing the prescribed team task allocated to our group. The Belbin test that have been conducted in the
above questionnaire defines the different roles to be played by numerous team members involved in the
functioning of a task or activity. Identifying the several roles to be performed by team member, efficient
allocation of job to desired members is possible, as per the skills as well as abilities and expertise. This allows a
venture to carry its numerous business related activities of different departments, in a efficient as well as
beneficial manner.
As per my point of view, though, the prescribed test has different beneficial gains for an organisation,
but, it does not gives a clear picture of abilities or skills inbuilt in an individuals, and these are just a reflection
of questionnaires which have been asked to the employees appointed.

Portfolio Evidence [Week 3] Cross-cultural awareness/negotiating
Negotiations are complex. One factor is how different cultures approach negotiating when doing
business internationally. In the following scenario, what cultural misunderstandings could occur and
what strategies can you undertake to minimise those misunderstandings? Write two paragraphs (150
words).
Scenario:
8
Document Page
Saudi Arabia is using its vast oil wealth to build $400bn of new infrastructure with major rail,
healthcare and construction projects. A British and Chinese company have been awarded two of the
largest contracts. They need to negotiate with each other and the Saudis to plan some of the
transport projects
Negotiation agreements are needed to be considered in the context of carrying venture related activities within different
economies. Different countries posses different culture and follows them which are needed to be taken into
consideration, while planning any market related operations within those countries. In the current scenario, there are
three economies, that are planning to undertake transportation activities, i.e. Saudi Arabia, Britain and China. A British
and Chinese company are trying to set up their venture in Saudi Arabia. The cultural negotiations or variations that lies
in the context of mentioned transportation activities is that , the government of Arabia is of quite dominant nature. The
mentioned organisation of china and Britain need to negotiate with every government agency with respect of
establishing its company. The major economic decisions that are being taken in the country are centralised, i.e.
authorised by central or state authority only. Thus, Chinese and Britishers have tom operate within the prescribed limits
of the Arabian government, in order to carry its functions in a smooth manner.

Portfolio Evidence [Week 4] Participating in meetings
Evaluate your meeting in your tutorial from the perspective of both your group and you as an
individual (if you did not attend in week 4, please use one of the follow-up meetings you will have in
class to complete this section; write 350 words).
The Group
Outcomes
(What did you achieve/decide?)
The present learning outcome has
enabled me and my other team
members to understand, along with its,
decide about the cultural awareness as
well as deviations that occur while
carrying international business
activities. The cultural deviations
between two operating economies lead
to negotiations between both.
Time Management
(How effective was your use of the time?)
The time that has been utilised to
provide us a deep understanding or
knowledge about the cultural
deviations, which would ensure our
team to operate in a way which is
suitable as per the cultural
requirements of that country or place.
Communication
(How well did you communicate with each other?)
As it is a group task, we decoded to
interact with each other about the
learning outcomes that have been
generated from the lectures, through a
group discussion, which was followed
up by a debate session amongst us.
Dealing with Conflict
(How did you deal with any disagreement?)
As there are cultural deviations, which
are to be considered while operating
any business activities between two
different nations, we have decided to
negotiate with the cultural variances by
adopting some ethical policies and
maintaining good terms with the
government.
Yourself
Participation
(How much did you participate in the discussion?
With the present learning outcome that
has been delivered in the week 4 of our
lectures, I have learnt that, the cultural
aspects of any country affects its
economic operations.
Contribution
(What ideas did you contribute?)
In our group discussion and debate, I
represented my opinion that, if there
are certain variations in the cultural
aspects between two countries, we
should try to follow the culture
prescribed by the concerned country in
order to gain beneficial results, without
any discrepancies.
Communication In the group discussion and debate
session, I represented my opinions and

(How well did you explain yourself and listen to others?) point of view regarding cultural
negotiations, without any arguments,
following an effective communication
quality that I posses.
Management of the Discussion (How much did you help to ensure the
meeting was productive?)
As a manager, it was crucial a function
to be performed by me to conclude to a
decision that leads to beneficial results
for the organisation. Thus, I involved
participation of each and every
individual o0gf the venture, which is
going to participate in the concerned
decisions or changes that have been
inculcated in respect of the functional
activities of a firm.
Action Points
(what could you / your group do better in future meetings)
The meeting in which participation was made by the individual was held in last month with the topic of business
development so as to ascertain various loopholes and strengths. It also helps in making assessment of what actions that
are required to be taken by the team for effective implementation of plan. In future meetings, we have decided to make
a thorough well pre determined plan or framework for the discussions that are needed to be undertaken, in respect of
enabling us to not avoid or neglect any substantial matter that need to be discussed and which requires some
suggestions.
