PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Part B
Introduction
The Quasar Communication INC is a thirty year old company with $350 million division
of the communication systems. The engineers hold a strong position in this organization and the
organization has gradually grown to a point where the majority of the business base is based on
thirty to forty small customers. The increase in the business bases has resulted in the need of
creation of separate line organizations with the project managers. For that, a project management
group was prepared and strategies for evaluation of the project were developed. However, there
were a number of flaws in the Quasar’s strategy. The report will provide an overview of the
change required in the project and the change details in the project along with the evaluation of
the risk management strategies, and management of the stakeholders of the project.
The Role of Project Manager
Project manager is an important stakeholder of any project. The project manager is
responsible for successful execution and monitoring of the project. In this project, the project
management group was headed by a vice president and there was nine project managers assigned
for the project (Cleden, 2017). All the nine project managers were expected to handle two or
more than two projects at a time if there is a requirement for the same. However, it was expected
that the requests of the customer would not come in the same time and therefore each project
manager will be handling one project at a time. However, the project manager experienced
certain problems while working with the diverse groups.
For successful completion of the project, an efficient project management plan is required
(Burke, 2013). However in this project, it was not possible since the project manager had no idea

about the end appearance of the project. The project manager was responsible for setting up a
realistic milestone for the project, which could not be followed in this project. The flaws of the
project manager lead to requirement of bringing in certain changes in the project. For this a
change request was introduced in the project. A change request can be described as a document
consisting of the call for adjustments in a system. Change request is very important in a change
management process. The change request analysis of the Quasar communication is discussed in
the following paragraphs.
Stakeholder Management
Stakeholder management is one of the most significant considerations of any project.
Stakeholder management is one of the most critical components for successful project delivery
(Eskerod & Vaagaasar, 2014). The identified stakeholders of this project are as follows-
1) The Vice President
2) Project Managers
3) The Project Management Team
4) The marketing Team
5) Product Managers
6) Customers
Customers were one of the significant stakeholders of the project. The business strategies
that were followed in Quasar Communication had a number of flaws that resulted in inefficient
management of the project stakeholders. It has been seen that the project mangers of Quasar

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
communication faced a number of issues in prioritizing and effectively managing the different
projects at a time. The customer or the stakeholders with low priority always seems to suffer as
equal attention for all the customers were not possible. This mainly occurred due to the flaws in
the project management strategies.
The change request for the project consists of the recommendation for bringing about
certain modifications in the project. For efficient management of the stakeholders of the project
the requirements of the project stakeholders are needed to be analyzed (Mir & Pinnington, 2014).
For better management of the stakeholders of the project a stakeholder’s matrix is to be prepared
and a communication plan is needed to be developed which will result in efficient management
of the stakeholders. These are the changes that are requested in the project for efficient
management of the stakeholders.
Risk Management
Risk management is an important project need and management of the risks in the project
ensures completion of the project without any hurdles. As evaluated earlier, there were a number
of flaws in the Quasar’s strategy of project management that resulted in certain risk of the project
(Carvalho & Rabechini Junior, 2015). The change is therefore requested in order to eliminate
those issues that might hamper the normal execution of the project. The risk was mainly
prevalent in the development process of the new products as the project managers were finding it
difficult to execute the projects with an incomplete requirement. Furthermore, it became difficult
for a single project manager to control multiple projects at a time. As a mitigation approach, a
risk management process is introduced in the project. This includes identification and treatment
of the identified risk (Parker et al., 2013).

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Change Request Analysis
There were a number of flaws in the Quasar’s project strategy both in functional level
and in responsibility level. Those inefficiencies and the flaws in the project lead to the issues in
the decision making and quality of the project. The change request for this project is therefore
based on the change in project scope, time and cost. A formal proposal was prepared for this
project that outlines the alterations required in the project (Cameron & Green, 2015). As
identified by the project manager, one of the important project needs was to provide more
accurate information to the project managers, possibly through the marketing team, which is
essential for successful completion of the project (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). Certain changes
were requested for the risk management and stakeholder’s management process as well.
Justification
The changes requested in the project are justified since the successful completion of the
project is not possible with the present strategies of the project. Change in project scope and the
process of project implementation by the project managers are essential in order to gain an
integrated control over the project. In order to ensure effective project monitoring, it is essential
to assign one project manager for a single task.
Conclusion
The report gives an overview of the risk management and stakeholder’s management in
the project. An integrated change control is needed in the project as there are a number of flaws
and inefficiencies associated with the project. The change requirements that are identified is
justified for this project since the project itself is complex and has a number of issues.
