Project Manager will play an important role in making staffing decisions for the project. However, any decision
must be discussed with the authority and suitable justifications must be provided for such decisions.
Technical Decisions:
Before taking technical decisions, the project manager must consult with the technical supervisor so that he can
understand about the relevant details and changes necessary.
Authority Limitations:
There are certain budget related decisions like additional budget input that is taken by the sponsor only. Again,
certain management level decisions are to be taken by the higher management and the project manager does not
have the authority to override such decisions.
The project manager is assigned to take important decisions for managing and controlling the project and he is
free to take decisions that will benefit the project in its due course. However, these decisions are to be reported to
the authority prior to implementation and in case of serious changes, detailed discussion must be conducted with
the authority involved.
Oversight/Escalation Process:
Any project related issues must be escalated to the project manager directly who will then take suitable actions or
escalate to the higher management for attention.
In case the escalation process is not clear to the team members, they can directly discuss the issues with their
immediate supervisor who will analyse the problems and if he is unable to solve them, he will escalate the issue to
the project manager.
