Project Description:
The project involves the design of sports themed ice cream dessert items for Artistic Ice Cream shops across
Canada. These themed ice cream dessert items will be sold at the shops for 12 months round the year 2020.
Project Background:
The project is mainly developed in line with the United Nations’ declaration of ‘International Year of Sports’ for
the year 2020. Thus, the sports themed desserts will attract more customers throughout the year.
High-Level Project/Product Requirements:
The key product requirements are specified as follows.
 Ice cream dessert designs with 12 different sports themes
 Suitable equipments and devices to create such ice cream designs
 Expertise of the chefs to produce such designs of ice cream
Summary Budget:
The main budget will be required to purchase equipments that will be useful for creating
the ice cream designs. It is estimated that a total budget of $30,000 will be sufficient for
the purchase of the machines. However, the project is estimated to require a further
$220,000 and hence, the total budget is set at $250,000.
Initial Risks:
Some key risks that may occur are specified as follows.
 Lack of interest of customers regarding the sports themed desserts
 Lack of sufficient marketing of the product
 Market competition with other sports themed items
Acceptance Criteria:
The acceptance criteria includes the increase in the sales of the ice creams, exceeding of the expectations for the
sales of the sports themed ice creams, demands for more availability of the sports themed desserts and others.
Other acceptance criteria are specified as follows.
Preliminary and finalized designs - approved by Vice-President of Menu Development and President of AIC
Market testing – average satisfaction scores of 75% or higher among focus group participants for each dessert
design (satisfaction scores lower than 75% will require design modification)
Training – AIC Head Managers must be able to prepare each type of dessert consistently and successfully, in a

timely manner (i.e., being able to prepare a dessert within 4 minutes) by following training documents and videos.

Project Manager Authority Level
Staffing Decisions:
Project Manager will play an important role in making staffing decisions for the project. However, any decision
must be discussed with the authority and suitable justifications must be provided for such decisions.
Technical Decisions:
Before taking technical decisions, the project manager must consult with the technical supervisor so that he can
understand about the relevant details and changes necessary.
Authority Limitations:
There are certain budget related decisions like additional budget input that is taken by the sponsor only. Again,
certain management level decisions are to be taken by the higher management and the project manager does not
have the authority to override such decisions.
The project manager is assigned to take important decisions for managing and controlling the project and he is
free to take decisions that will benefit the project in its due course. However, these decisions are to be reported to
the authority prior to implementation and in case of serious changes, detailed discussion must be conducted with
the authority involved.
Oversight/Escalation Process:
Any project related issues must be escalated to the project manager directly who will then take suitable actions or
escalate to the higher management for attention.
In case the escalation process is not clear to the team members, they can directly discuss the issues with their
immediate supervisor who will analyse the problems and if he is unable to solve them, he will escalate the issue to
the project manager.
