CE 2.1 Project Information

CE 2.2 Project Background
CE 2.2.1 Background of the organisation
Damavand Combined Cycle Power Plant is one of the largest power plant in the country
of Iran. The power plant comprises of 12 gas station units. Each of the units had a power
capacity of 159 MW. In addition to this there are six streams units each with a working capacity
of 160 MW. With the resources present the plant is able to produce a total of 2880 MW of power
output. The company also uses a V94.2 gas turbines and an E Type steam turbines. I was
selected to work for the IFC (Issued For Construction) package stage of the company. As there
were multiple activities in the scope of my work I had to review many of the project documents
before the starting of the project work. With my knowledge in big project, my supervisors had
asked me to look after the complete project.

CE 2.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
For the project completion and to meet the requirements of the project I had laid out the
following list of objectives:
 To schedule meetings with the department or the evaluation of the project plan and
the cost for the project.
 To report back the progress of the project.
 To properly manage the work flow and the documentation of the project in order to
meet the requirements and the effective use of resources for the project.
 To prepare notes to distribute among the supervisors regarding the progress of the
project.
 To prepare a project action plan to discuss about the work to be done.
 To upload the complete and updated project progress documentation on the
company’s online portal.
CE 2.2.3 My area of work
I was responsible for the monitoring of the work flow and cost of the project. I had also
worked on the management of the team of engineers working in the project. I had worked on the
development of the IFC package for the project. The IFC package includes the project plan, cost
estimation and evaluation plan, schedule construction drawing, the procedures and the
instrumentation data sheets for the project. It also included the construction permits from
various sectors and the management of the corresponding memo of the project.

CE 2.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
For the duration of the project I had helped in the monitoring of the project work flow
and cost of the project and to manage the work team. I had also helped in the management of the
IFC package of the project. Apart from this I had helped in the development of the project plan
and the cost estimation plan, construction drawings and the instrumentation data sheets of the
project. I had also worked on the writing of the corresponding memo for the project.

CE 2.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 2.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project
The project was for the development of the work flow and the cost estimation of the
project. I had developed the IFC package for the project which was to provide an insight for the
working of the gas units in the plant. The project was to provide an effective measure for the use
of gas plant units at the organisation. I had created an action plan for each department to follow
in which all the responsibilities of the workers had been pointed out. In order to check the
progress of the project I had conducted periodic meetings. I had used several software’s like
word, excel and adobe reader for the coordinating and sharing of various files among my
supervisors. This helped in the reduction of the nonconformities of the deliverables by 25%.
CE 2.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
The project required many of the competencies from to complete the work. I had received
training and had studied many useful courses in order to equip myself for such projects. During
my course of work on the project I found that the modules like Project Control, Engineering
Economy and Management Theory and trainings like PMBOK, and P6 were very helpful for the
project. I had also researched on the working topics on the internet to find innovative ideas to
implement into the project.
CE 2.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
For the first stage I had reviewed all the project documents and the contract to understand
the necessary requirements for the project. I had then finalized the goal for the project which
incorporated all the tasks for the project completion. I had also considered the budget of the
project and reworked on the deadline in order to provide the best quality work to the client. I had

incorporated the task of handling of two gas units in my scope of work. I had developed my
project time line in Microsoft Project software with the proper allocation of the project task to
specific people of the project. I had taken up my team mates to work in the department of Project
Control and Management.
CE 2.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
2.3.4.1 Issues
The first issue which I had faced during the implementation of the project was the follow
up related to the revision of multiple technical documents for the project. Each of the document
needed to be reviewed by the management before proceeding with the next task. I also noticed
that there were minor discrepancies in the deliverables ranging from sharing of wrong revision to
format changing. In addition to this I found that no track sheet was present in the documentation
file. There was no process of tracking of the work progress of the project.
2.3.4.2 Solutions
I would create an extra document for the successive clearing out from the management
before one of the file got cleared form the management. I then decided to create a project specific
delivery method with the inclusion of two training sessions for the workers. This made sure that
the errors and problems can be reduced to minimum. I had created a word program with the help
of Microsoft Word’s tracking ability. I would edit the work done for the project and share the file
with others. I had also made the file read only for others so that no data gets changed by the
viewers of the files.

CE 2.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I had implemented the document numbering system for the transmittals. I had used excel
formulas to create a list of the numbers according to the deliverables. I then uploaded the file to
the online portal of the company for the management to review the work. After the approval I
worked on the development of the IFC package according to the requirements. This sped up the
process of purchase order authorization and the workshop preparation work started within one
month.
CE 2.3.6 Collaborative work
I had arranged meeting with my supervisors to review the list of deliverables and the
activities that I was to perform for the project. I had also consulted with my colleagues and my
senior to increase the quality of my project. I found that team work is the most essential element
for the completion of the project. I had credited my team mates whenever it was possible. With
my planning skills I had revised the progress report multiple times and was able to complete the
deliverables within the dedicated time and budget.
CE 2.4 Project Review
CE 2.4.1 Project Overview
I had found this project to be very useful for my career as I was able to learn a lot of
things during the time line of the project. I was able to utilize my project management skills and
my experience in such large projects helped me to understand the working of the project easily. I
was able to complete the work within the designated deadline along with the project being within

the budget. The management was happy with my work and helped me to get referred to other
projects. This project was one of the best one I had done in my career till now.
CE 2.4.2 My contribution to work
I had contributed in the process of development of the project work flow and cost
estimation. I had helped in the project plan, cost estimation of the project and the development of
the instrumentation data sheets. I had also worked in the management of the corresponding
memo of the project work. I had reviewed all the project documents prior to the starting of the
project. With the help of my writing skills I was able to help my team mates in the writing of the
project documentation.
