INTRODUCTION
Engineering management techniques include all kinds of engineering tools used to
complete a business project or development process (Kerzner and Kerzner, 2017). This
assignment is about developing a new product for ChipsЯus so that they can grow their business.
Here , an analysis is done by project manager to identify way to control and manage the project
by identifying the expected project life cycle. After this an analysis is done for the ways
engineering team will ensure the budget and time of the project so that it can be completed
within the specified time period and budget as well as the volume and quality level of the project
is maintained.
MAIN BODY
Project life Cycles
According to PMBOK a project can be managed and controlled in various ways but
before that project management life cycle should be defined which is done in five phases such
as: Initiating, planning, Execution, Controlling and Closing (Tonchia, 2018). These five phases
of the project life-cycle also helps the project manager to control and manage the project of
ChipsЯus.
Initiating: In this phase project manager creates a project charter in which rationale of the
project is explained which helps in defining the vision of ChipsЯus for the project as well as
defines the business care related to it. This will help ChipsЯus to identify the reason because of
which the project is being undertaken, what is the main problem and it can be solved (Quezada–
Sarmiento and Enciso, 2016). In simple words it explains what ChipsЯus is thinking before
creating the project i.e. they want to grow their business.
Planning: This is one of the main phase of the overall project. In this phase planning of
the project is done. In this all the necessary planning are done which might be useful in
completing the project. First information that is defined is scope of the project which is to
grow the business by introducing the new product into the market. In this scope sufficient
details should be included which will help in reducing scope change risk. Then work
breakdown structure is made where all the activities of the project are included and
explained in tabular format. Then project schedule is defined in such a way that project is
completed in a specified budget and in finite time. Then based on the budget, available

resources budget of the project is defined. In this phase monitoring of the project is also
done by continuously monitoring quality, risk, resource availability of the project.
Execution: In this phase all the fundamental of the project are applied so that execution of the
project is done smoothly. In this phase quality assurance team audit and inspect all the process
and activities defined in the planning phase within a specified interval of time. Then train and
development of the project team is done for required skills. As in this project a new project
development team was developed so training of the new development team is also dome
simultaneously (De los Ríos-Carmenado, Lopez and Garcia, 2015). After all these things
stakeholder engagement is done in order to ensure that all the stakeholders involved in the
project are satisfied.
Controlling: this is one of the most important phase of the project where all type of
controls are utilized so that the project can remain on track, within the schedule and
within the overall budget of the project (Heagney, 2016). This phase will play a vital role
for ChipsЯus as they want to introduce a new product into the market in order to grow
their business. For this they try to include following things within their schedule. Such as
project management team performs a schedule variance analysis so that they can control
the schedule of the project and control the budget, then they perform a cost variance
analysis which helps the project manager to control the cost of the project. This will help
the project management team to manage the overall cost of the project despite of the fact
the completely new production line is to be built and installed.
Closing: finally comes the closure project where document of complete project is done,
liabilities of long term are finalized and lastly all the relevant parties are communicated
that the project is complete.
Project management and control
Project management and control are one of the most important part of the project as it
helps in managing the overall cost of the project, schedule of the project, reduce risk
associated with the project etc (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017). Management and control of
the project mostly focusses on quality, cost and time of the project. Management of the
project can be done in following ways:
First of all by managing and controlling the communication within the team members and
all the involved stakeholders of the project overall growth of the project can be managed
and growth. By managing the communication all the required changed can be

communicated easily, required information can be communicated easily (Karaman and
Kurt, 2015).
By checking the quality of work and final product within a regular interval of time. This
will the project manager to maintain the quality of the project.
By doing a continuous budget analysis of the project so that project manager can make
sure that project is moving in a correct direction.
Then schedule of the project is assessed within time to time so that project is completed
on time (Patrick, Kendall and Seepersad, 2017).
Other than this continuous risk monitoring and management is done so that all kind of
unexpected risk can be eliminated.
Project can be controlled with the help of project control cycle which is as follows:
This project control cycle helps in managing any kind of unexpected events that can
occur and increase the risk of the project, any kind of errors can emitted easily. For this progress
of the project is monitored continuously and if any change is required then it is identified and a
change control plan is made (Rogers, Chong and Preece, 2015). After this change control is

evaluated according to the benefits of the project. If any kind of change is required then a report
is circulated and decision regarding the same is made. After this all kind of updates are reviewed
again and base plan is made (Reich and Wee, 2019). This will help the ChipsЯus to manage and
control their new project development project and complete it within the specified schedule and
time.
Delivery of the project
Three most important things in a project are time, quality and budget. So, it is important
for the engineering team to ensure that the complete process is followed and carried forwards in
correct direction and in a correct so that the project is delivered on time, within the specified
budget by managing and maintaining all the quality levels in such a way that it is quite efficient
to generate necessary volume of the project (Hermano and Martín-Cruz, 2019). This is done by
managing the budget and required information related to plant equipment, standards of the parts,
storage for the new project is sufficient or not etc. It can be done by:
Time management: Engineering team can make the project schedule on the daily or
weekly basis and can allot work of team members in advance itself, so that the project is
on time. All the required information of project, resources, training etc. should be
collected by the engineering team on time and communicated efficiently on time so that
time period of the project is not extended.
Accurate budget: Engineering team can made a budget and cost estimation of the overall project
which will include cost of all the new machineries, equipment used inside the plant, cost of all
the required parts, cost of new production line and cost of overall labours involved in the project
(Miles, 2015). This will help them to identify the overall cost of the project and ensure that the
complete project is completed within time.
Necessary volume and Quality levels: Engineering team can conduct an auditing where
inspection, verification of overall quality of the project will be checked. They will check the
quality of equipment and their parts which are used for the project so that they are accurate
(Fricker, Grau and Zwingli, 2015). It will also help to check whether all the requirements of the
project are completed or not.
It is very much important that construction firm are using and witnessing highly qualified
professionals so that they are getting support from progressive management tools with equipment
as well. Managing procurement is one of the main aspect of PMBOK which will be including
4

service of outside vendor and contractors for purchasing equipment. So there is very important
need for how vendors will be selected and then managed thereafter into project life cycle. It is
essential that mangers are managing their procurement with acquiring and the contracting plan
with responding to seller, their contract administration and then closer of contract.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
From the above report it has been summarized that in order to complete a project within
the specified time period, budget by maintaining the quality of the project, project manager plays
a vital role as he is the one who manage and control complete project throughout the project life
cycle. It could also be concluded that it is essential to manage stakeholders and procurement of
funds which will be impacting people and organisation as well.
It is recommended that during the feasibility study of all the equipment used and new
team members should be done i.e. whether the new production line to be installed can be
installed within the specified budget and time period.
Training can be provided to the new production development team so that they are
efficient enough to control the volume and quality of the project in such a way that
project is completed on time.
