Executive Summary
This report focuses on the design and implementation of the project namely Monet Holiday Park.
Brief background of the project has been given. With the aim of diversifying business, Penny
Moore and Ben Andrews have aimed to sell their first project Monet Guest House and establish
the park in the country side. The land of Plwmp pond will be used in order to establish the park.
Different theoretical frameworks related to project have been discussed. Furthermore, different
phases associated with the project have also been highlighted in the paper.

Introduction:
Managing project in an appropriate manner is one of the most significant factors of
completing a project in a timely and cost effective manner by aligning all the resources in a
proper order. Project management plays a critical role in terms of ensuring the fact that a real
value has been developed against the business objectives (Kerzner 2017). Present paper will put
forth the discussion of the design and implementation of the project namely Monet Holiday Park
project brief.
According to the case study, Monet guesthouse is the dream project of Penny Moore and
Ben Andrews who are childhood friend. However, after being married, Penny Moore and Ben
Andrews are willing to diversify their business in the country side. This is the reason, for which
both of them along with shareholders like Penny’s husband and Ben’s wife have decided to sell
the Monet guesthouse in order to develop Monet Holiday Park. An in-depth literature review will
be conducted in order to evaluate different theories and models related to project design and
implementation. Various phases of the project will also be evaluated. Furthermore, in this paper,
the skills required for the consultant of Rekmark Consultancy will be identified. In addition to
that, this paper will also evaluate the actions that are required to complete appropriately.
Literature review:
Appropriate design and implementation of project is the key factor of completing a
project within the required deadline. In-depth planning is the key step of completing carrying out
a project (Meredith et al. 2017). This is the way, through which all the valuable resources can be
aligned properly which is very much needed in terms of amplifying the inner value of the

project. The project is considered as the conceptualized form of transforming from input to
output. According to the Thermostat Model of project management, creation, revision and
implementation of plans are one of the key factors of managing a project with utmost efficiency.
This particular approach of project management perceives the fact that there is a strong
connection in between actions of management and the final outcome of project (Heagney 2016).
Thermostat Model of project management comprises of several factors which include:
 Every project has a certain standard of performance
 The performance of the project is being measured on the basis of the outcome of the
project.
 The variation in between the standard and measured value is being used in order to
correct the process of the project in order to meet the desired standard.
As Penny Moore and Ben Andrews is aiming to sell the Monet guesthouse in order to
diversify their business to the country side, it is imperative for them to make a comprehensive
planning initially. This will serve them with the ability to explore the steps that are required in
order to build the Monet Holiday Park within the desired time. Rekmark Consultancy should
give proper assistance to Penny Moore and Ben Andrews in terms of making comprehensive
project planning.
According to Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle learning is defined as the four stage cyclical
process in which both knowledge and wisdom are created through transformation of the
experience (Walker 2015). As per the cycle, learning comprises of acquiring abstract concept
which can be used flexibly in various situations. It is imperative to note here that new experience
plays a major role in terms of enabling the people to learn new concept. Application of this cycle

can help the project consultant to learn various factors and concepts related to designing and
implementing project that are highly required to complete the project with utmost efficiency
(Harrison and Lock 2017).

There are four different stages of Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle which in the context of
Monet Holiday Park project will be discussed in the following part of the report:
 Concrete Experience
This is the most useful component of Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle, which supports in
gaining effective knowledge regarding the project (Marchewka 2016). Thus, it is imperative for
the consultant of Rekmark Consultancy to try hard in order to build the experience which is very
much needed in terms of managing the project properly. The project consultant should build the

activity in such a manner which would help the stakeholders to understand about the basic
objectives of the project. In the given project, Penny’s husband and Ben’s wife is the crucial
stakeholder and the Monet Holiday Park is going to be established on the land of Plwmp pond.
Binder (2016) opined that therefore it is the prime responsibility of the consultant to keep the
shareholders informed regarding the land. In this way, the stakeholder can experience what the
consult is going to propose.
 Reflective Observation of the New Experience
As discussed by Fewings and Henjewele (2019) in this stage, the stakeholders observe the
situation with utmost efficiency. Being the most valuable stakeholder, both Penny’s husband and
Ben’s wife should observe the entire situation. From the case study, it is evident that both of
them are acting as the major shareholder. It has also been observed that both of them have been
participated in the discussion session, in which Penny and Ben have decided to diversify their
business to country side. In addition to that, as Penny’s husband and Ben’s wife are the major
shareholders of Monet Holiday Park project, it is important for them to reflect what they have
learned from the entire project.
 Abstract Conceptualization
As per the perception of Kerzner (2019) in this stage of Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle,
the stakeholders start to learn about the various concepts of project design and implementation
and the relationship in between them. Being the most important stakeholder of Monet Holiday
Park project, Penny’s husband and Ben’s wife should learn about the way, through which the
project can be delivered against the predetermined objectives. At the same time, the shareholders
must also learn about the ways of making comprehensive project planning by aligning all the

valuable resources. At the same time, Kerzner (2017) stressed on the fact that the shareholders
must also interpret what they have learned. This will play a critical role in terms of strengthening
the inner value of the project.
 Active Experimentation
This is the last stage of Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle. In this stage, the stakeholders
wish to perceive the practical situation by the application of their knowledge. Being the key
stakeholder, Penny’s husband and Ben’s wife should apply their knowledge in various contexts
of Monet Holiday Park project. Eskerod and Jepsen (2016) stated that this will help them to
complete the project in a timely and cost effective manner.
The stakeholders are one of the vital factors managing the project appropriately. Thus, it
is imperative to manage them properly in order to accelerate the underlying value of business. As
the land Plwmp pond will be used in order to establish Monet Holiday Park project, it is the
prime responsibility of Penny and Ben to manage the shareholders appropriately. Penny and Ben
should priorities the fundamental needs of stakeholders in terms of generating satisfaction among
them. Lock (2017) stared the fact that the fundamental need of the stakeholders is needed to be
mitigated as they have effective contribution on the success of the project.
Assessment of the project phases:
In order to complete a project successfully, it is imperative to follow all the phases of
project. Based on the observation of Nicholas and Steyn (2017) it can be said that this will help
in completing the project in a systematic manner. Subsequent discussion will help in evaluating
various phases of project.

1. Initiation:
A project is entirely based on building conception and initiation. In this phase, the project
owner holds the responsibility of generating ideas and keeps the project experts informed about
the ideas. Sears et al., (2015) put stress on the fact that this will help the team members to decide
whether the project is feasible or not. It is worthy to mention here that the team has to do
comprehensive research in order to analyze the cist and scope of the project. As establishment of
Monet Holiday Park is a construction project, it is imperative for Penny and Ben to keep the
consultancy informed about their fundamental aim behind initiating this project. On the other
hand, Joslin and Müller (2015) showed that the consultant should assess the cost and scope of the
project.
2. Planning:
This is the second phase of a project in which all the activities are framed in a single
framework. Proper planning is one of the most significant aspects of completing the project in a
systematic manner as proper planning helps in distinguishing various activities. Young (2016)
shaded light on the fact that in the life cycle of a construction project, the inclusion of
comprehensive planning plays a major role in aligning all the resources which is the key of
improving the value of the project. Comprehensive financial planning is the major factor of
project planning phase. Hornstein (2015) opined that in this phase, the consultant should prepare
the project budget by estimating the cost of various factors such as labor, equipment, and
materials costs. The consultant should also execute project scheduling in order to complete
establishing Monet Holiday Park within the required dead line. Implementation of scheduling
charts also takes place in the planning stage of the project which helps in tracking the progress

level of the project with the passage of time. In addition, with the assistance of project budget,
the cost of the project can also be monitored and controlled which is the key of completing the
project in a cost effective manner (Todorović et al. 2015).
3. Implementation:
This is the third phase of project. In this stage, the project plans are implemented in the
motion and the activities of the project is also started to be performed. Portny (2017) highlighted
that in this stage the project manager plays a critical role in controlling and maintaining
communication in between different phases of the project. In Monet Holiday Park project, the
consultant should monitor the project plan continuously and making adjustment in between the
variances. The consultant must also make report regarding the activity of the people, progress
related information. However Papke-Shields and Boyer-Wright (2017) stated that it is imperative
for the consultant meeting with the team members in order to prepare the report.
4. Closure:
This is the last phase of the project where the completion of the project takes place. This is
the final step of the long process of project design and implementing. In this step, the consultant
should ensure that they have acted as per the contractual agreements and are free from any kind
of legal burden. Post-project review is very much needed in this context as it will help in
reviewing all the activities against the objectives (Svejvig and Andersen 2015).
Discuss skills developed:
The skills and competency of the staffs is very much needed in order to amplify the value
of the project. Communication is one of the major skills in the project. The success of project is

entirely dependent the degree of communication. While working in the Monet Holiday Park
Project as the consultant, I have improved my communication skill which has helped me to
mitigate the risk of conflict and thereby complete the project in a collaborative manner.
Project management is one of the vital factors of completing a project in a timely and cost
effective manner. Therefore, managing project is the crucial factor of aligning the project goal
with that of the business strategy (Kivilä et al. 2017). It is worthy to mention here that project
management is the major factor of improving the value of the project. By building project
management skill, I have practiced effective leadership in order to lead the people towards
proper direction. Moreover, comprehensive project management skill has also helped me to
initiate comprehensive project planning. Team working is also a critical factor to carry out the
project in a collaborative manner. This is the major way of solving critical issues by generating
innovative ideas. Amplification of team working skill has helped me to generate brainstorming
ideas and integrate them in the project process for the sake of completing complicated project.
Designing is another major skill of the managing a project. Being a consultant, this skill has
helped me to make lucrative design of Monet Holiday Park and thus generate satisfaction among
both of the clients. Proper presentation skill is another vital factor, through which has helped me
to meet and greet the clients properly and thus generate positive vive among the clients.
Analysis of Actions:
Successful completion of project requires comprehensive planning. As a consultant of the
Rekmark Consultancy, I have developed the project planning initially. It has helped me to align
all the resources with that of the project goal. At the same time, I have made a comprehensive
budget in order to align the financial resources properly. In addition to that, I have also

maintained effective communication in order to keep them informed regarding various aspects of
the project. However, while carrying out the project, I have faced conflict among the people,
which I cannot managed properly.
Conclusion:
On a concluding note, it is imperative to note in this context that project management is one of
the most significant factors of managing high quality of product by reducing the issue of budget
a comprehensive project planning is one of the major aspects of effective project management. In
addition to that, systematic design and implementation are also the major aspects of leading a
project towards proper direction and thus complete it within the desired dead line. With the
assistance of appropriate design and implementation, high quality of project can be delivered.
For the particular assessment, the thermostat Model of project management was followed
through the creation, revision and implementation of a plans which was identified as an aspect of
importance when it comes to the management of the project in an effective manner. For
reflection, Kolb’s Experimental Learning Cycle has been followed. The said project that has
been discussed on talks about the development of factors including initiation, planning,
implementation and closure. Breaking down the project into parts implied that the latter could be
managed more effectively and efficient results could be obtained. Comprehensive planning has
been responsible for the success that has been accounted during different phases of the project.
