It contrasts the dynamics of managing local and remote teams, highlighting the distinct challenges and considerations for each. The report then examines pre-project evaluation methods, including ROI, IRR, payback, and NPV, using the New Royal Adelaide Hospital project as a case study. It analyzes the project's failure, attributing it to factors like missed deadlines and cost overruns, emphasizing the importance of meeting project criteria for success. 1PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Developing Project Management Skills:
Personal Traits for the Project Managers:
For a project manager, there are several traits which can help them to become more
effective in their current position. The most important personal traits are the effective
communication skills, having good technical expertise, the strong skill of leadership, team
building and managing skills, good decision-making approach and remaining cool under extreme
pressure (Henkel et al., 2019). All of the above personality traits are important for the project
managers to become most effective. Also, these traits will help project managers in the
successful execution of the projects.
Operating a Local Team vs a Remote Team:
While a project manager is working for a local team, the project manager needs to focus
on the different type of perspective. In this aspect, the project manager will be in direct contact
with the project team, and due to this, managing the team will be quite easy for them. For the
local teams, the project manager needs to provide the basics regarding the project. Here, the
project manager will guide the team through small tasks which will complete the overall project.
Also, in this type of scenario, the project manager will be able to create a good relationship with
the project team, which will be helpful for the proper execution of the project.
Managing a remote team can be quite different compared with the local project team.
Actually, managing a remote team can be quite difficult for the project manager, and due to this,
the various requirement will be changed. In this type of cases, the project manager and the teams
will not be able to communicate in their common language, which can possibly hamper the
project execution (Lukić & Vračar, 2018). Also, the project manager needs to be more focused

on trust-building. Also, the project manager might need to handle different cultures and time
zone, which can impact the project execution way.
Pre Project Evaluation:
In this aspect, the construction project of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia is
one of the important projects that can be considered here. Evaluation of a project is important in
certain situations. There are several methods that can be used for the evaluation of the projects.
Important methods for the project evaluation includes the return of investment calculation,
internal rate of return method, payback method and the net present value method (Merikhi &
Zwikael, 2019). These methods can properly evaluate the actual benefit provided by the project.
So, these methods are appropriate for the evaluation of the newRAH Project. Here for providing
justification for this project, environmental analysis is done, and the impact analysis is done for
the project. Also, the validation analysis is done for the project. For the approval of the project,
the formal process was followed where the charter of the project was reviewed. The board of the
project reviewed the charter and provided the approval for the selection.
Considering the new RAH project, it was actually a failure. Though the project was
completed, still, the project is considered a failure. There are several factors are associated with
the project, which defines whether the project is successful or not. The project needs to satisfy all
of these criteria to become successful. Meeting the project deadline is one of the important
criteria for the successful project. In this case, the new Royal Adelaide Hospital project failed to
meet this criterion and due to this cost of the project increased heavily (Mignone et al., 2016).
For this reason, this project was a failure. Here, the project deadline criteria are used for
performing this evaluation.
